  I sympathize with your plight to some extent, but feel that the answer to your question lies in this sentence in your post:

  We come here to support each other.

  That actually may not be true, nor need it be. This is not a Board of 'support,' but a Board of 'discussion' and this is where many people fail either to understand its purpose, or to appreciate the combatitive freedom that a discussion unencumbered by the fetters of social niceties, can bring.

  Every discussion, especially when oriented around controversial subjects, runs the risk of hard truths being stated and negative reactions to those truths being expressed. Thick skins are not bad things on discussion forums, thick heads are dangerous, not that I am suggesting you fall into this catagory of course.

  Try not to take the 'abuse' too seriously, there really is no need to, especially as it may only appear to be abuse because it steps outside of our paradigm.

  "Modern Bibles" Are Based on Wescott and Hort - Who Were They? Part I

  these manuscripts were available to the king james translators but were rejected because of the thousands of disagreements with each other as well as disagreement with between 95% to 99% of all other ancient manuscripts.

  additionally, they were very messy with many marginal notations and scratch outs, etc.

  but even if they are, many have shown that older is not an adequate criteria for determining accuracy.

  Car culture differences between Europe and America

  europeans and americans seem to have very different culture when it comes to cars which automobiles being much more enshrined in american culture (i'll ignore the obvious oxymoron joke .

  for instance, off the top of my head i can think of quite a few references to cars in songs or just driving but they are always american songs and cars.

  no one sang much about moris minors or hilman imps i guess and getting kicks on route 66 sounds so much more impressive than the services on the m6.. likewise with films, cars feature in american films but hardly ever in british ones (ok, chitty chitty bang bang and the double-decker bus in summer holiday are the exceptions).. does this explain the different attitudes toward cars on each continent?.

  I thought the Lotus Elan body was very thin gauge aluminum. I recall being told not to lean on one for fear of denting.

  Nahh. The body was fiberglass, at least mine was. You may be thinking of the Lotus Europa?

  I had my first voting experience yesterday for this. It was pretty funny. It was at the small local school which is being re-built. Because it was torn down I didn’t know where exactly to go. I saw two old guys who I’d never seen before. I asked one where the voting was happening, and he told me where it was. Then he said, while pointing at the other fella, “You need to talk to that guy”. I asked “what do you mean”? And he said “You’re one of those Jehovah Witness aren't you. That guys makin a real mess of his life. You should give him some advice.”. He was just playing around with the other guy (trying to sick an annoying witness on him). I assured him that I’m not a JW anymore. It’s funny how everyone seems to know who we are, even though we don’t have a clue who they are (no, I never did much knocking on doors). It’ll be interesting if word of this "voting JW" situation ever gets back to me thru the elders.

  Come now, you must know that when a person sneezes in Cobh, they count the germs in Belfast. ;)

  Lotus Elan - HS - The wonderful Diana Rigg (Emma Peel) in The Avengers sprung immediately to mind. Sexual frustration coming out of me again!!

  Yes, it was a nifty little car, though the fiberglass body always made me feel a little nervous. I am not very much of a 'car person', my wife normally makes the running in that department. She has great affection for Lancia cars (not available in North America I believe), and I must say that the Lancia Beta was a beautiful car, every bit as sumptous as a top end BMW but with a sports engine. I just remembered, I had an Audio Quattro for a year in the early 90's. Cannot remember too much about it apart from the fact that it was black.

  Did you know that I once partied with Diana Rigg in the very late 60's? Believe it or not I was introduced to her at a jazz club by a quite brilliant JW saxophone player and we all tripped off to Spike Milligan's place in Buckinghamshire for the evening. Happenings like this were quite common in the 60's when social barriers fell like Italian Governments. Of course, I was too young and foolish to understand the privilege of the situation, but have a feeling my invite depended on this very fact.

  Yeah, she was stunning looking in those days.

  If it is online, however mutated and macerated by Fundie agendas it may be, Perry will find it, and Burn will misread it. Like taxes and death, these are immutable truths.

  Common sense however, is apparently much more difficult to dig up.

  That is sad Hillary Step. It taked a lot of guts to admit that list of autos on an open forum.

  I doubt whether you have sat in anything whose drivers seat was not shaped like a tractor seat, and expecially not a Mercedes 300SL, which is probably worth five times more than the poultry shed you call home.

  Cars that I have owned: Lancia Fulvia, Lotus Elan, Mercedes 300SL, Lancia Thema, Nissan Maxima, Lancia Beta, various Honda Prelude's.

  Cars that I have cared about very much: Nil.

  I guess that when the testosterone was being handed out, I was at the tail end of the line. ;)

  Does Wearing Your Nations Uniform Automatically Ensure a High Moral Ground?

  i realize that the contents of this thread may enflame the passions of those on all sides of the house.

  if your sensibilities are easily damaged, you take yourself to seriously, or your humor is wanting, then be warned this may not be the thread for you.. i have been reading with interest a thread on this board today that is discussing the treatment of us veterans.

  i have noticed that when such subjects are discussed there is an automatic assumption that those who don the uniforms of their respective nations, they somehow are automatically walking on a higher moral ground.. i find it all the more puzzling that those who cry the loudest for 'special' treatment for soldiers, and by special i mean as compared to the rest of the working masses, seem to be of an republican bent.

  Thank you for your comments, and you are half-way to actually understanding the point of the thread, which is closer than many who have commented. I am going to simplify this.

  You seem to agree that a person who fights for his country, for whatever reason, is automatically ensured a high moral ground for doing so. Do I have this correctly? I of course disagree in principle with this notion, as it is based on national and tribal identity and not on firmly grounded ethics or morality. I see the soldier as not more valuable a member of society than a doctor, sewage worker, or cafe owner.

  Do you accept that some wars are waged on firmer moral grounds than others? Given that some wars may be more 'moral' that other wars, on what ETHICAL basis do you make such a comment? Can you see the moral dilemma that this presents?

  Now, an example and this is only used as an example as it is present news, not because of any political affiliation. Were I a US citizen, I would not be voting either Republican or Democrat. John McCain's supporters are very quick to play the 'war hero' card. Should this for example make any difference to whether a person is fit for political office?
