  i was wondering today.

  what if the witnesses did not have a policy of disfellowshipping those that are apostates.

  what would the congregations be like?

  A valuable and accurate post.

  The WTS are masters of the art of cunning and sensationalism. No new change is ever as simple as it looks.

  For example, the lastest plans to shelf any more constructions of, or additions to, Branch building projects world wide will be painted with the brush of 'simplification'.

  What they will not tell you is that simultaneously with these instructions not to build at Branch level, a massive building campaign for Kingdom Halls worldwide has been drafted. Why?

  Well, the line run will be huge increases of publishers who need a place to worship. But the reality is that Legal are rapidly working toward protecting WTS assets in view of litigation that seems very likely to strike them in the near future.

  Kingdom Halls are built and paid for not with WTS money but with local hard-working JW's, many of whom do the building themselves, saving cash. In the final event - who owns these Halls?

  Three guesses not neccessary, though hidden by Trustee paperships, the WTS holds these assets, assets that they have not directly paid for, and yet are untouchable in litigation.

  Hello YYW,

  As you can read from some of the answers to your thread, the matter of disfellowshiping and the subsequent shunning involved, is not quite as simple an issue to understand as you may have been led to believe by the WTS.

  If you carefully research its theological history as developed by the WTS, you will find it interesting that they themselves have changed many aspects of disfellowshiping and shunning over the years, often reversing policies on various aspects of their disciplinary process.

  If the issue was a clear as you have been led to believe would this be happening with a doctrinal feature so important that according to the WTS ones life depends on it? You owe it to yourself to look into this matter carefully, after all, your own family may become involved in this problem at some time.

  As to the matter of disfellowshiping 'apostates', that you mentioned at the outset in your questions, this issue again must be looked at carefully to ascertain whether the WTS through its Judicial Committees is not in actual fact punishing the innocent. That is why I posed certain questions to you at the beggining of this thread.

  If they are found wanting in this area, justice cries at them from the grave, as I have personally known a number of suicides that have resulted from this process.

  As you know, JW's commonly use the word 'Truth' and describe themselves as 'Truth Seekers'. We only ask that you YYW, live up to the labels that have been vested on you.

  Hello YoYo,

  In order to answer such a question a certain groundwork needs to be established so that we are all on the 'same page'. These are some questions I would ask you, the same that I have asked others on previous occasions with similar questions to your own.

  1) What is the Bible’s definition of an apostate?
  2) What is the WTS definition of an apostate?
  3) What is your definition of an apostate?

  If the answers to these questions are convergent or divergent perhaps you might comment.

  Thank you for your post.

  When the WTS uses the phrase 'only Jehovahs Witnesses' repeatedly, very quickly the average JW begins to think, 'only me', repeatedly.

  Then it becomes so much easier to erect an, 'us and them' barrier between JW's and the rest of humanity. A subsequent elevation of self-righteousness to the status of an art form and you have the job complete.

  The WTS CD ROM has very much been an undoing for their claim to be ‘researchers’ as it allowed instantaneous comparisons to be made of literature written over forty years. It is quite astonishing to find how often whole paragraphs have just been lifted verbatim from earlier literature. Of course, the standard procedure in Writing is that the Watchtower and KS, should always be used as the primary source material for any article. That is why the same old quotations from the 50's and 60's seem to reappear with a grim and anachronistic regularity.

  A friend in Writing likened his job to ‘searching for the pearl amongst the manure’. He described the process like this trying to illustrate how he had to scour ‘wordly literature’ by the yard each month looking for the ‘pearl’….that is; anything that agreed with WTS thinking! This is not research, it is intellectual scavenging and cunning plagiarism.

  i've never really attempted poetry and don't really understand it completely.

  but i do like it and i was inspired to make this post after reading ashitaka's fine poem in eulogy of his grandfather.

  i've been asked by a few who were present at my mother's funeral and wake to go ahead and post a part of my eulogy here.

  Are we equal...?

  when an employer resorts to comments like 'who sign's your check?

  ' or 'are you biting the hand that feed's you?

  ', it is normally due to some perceived or overt violation of loyalty, or simply to shut the employee up regarding the subject matter at hand.. i don't like the tactic, because it is rarely used in a one on one situaltion, but generally in the ear shot of other's, to squelch the matter.

  brits rule supreme because:.

  imagination - the brits have far more interesting and equivalent words for the us brain-dead.

  for example, thundering dunderhead, planky-bonse, squonka, mole-brain, glaswegian.. though most women over 60 in the inner cities, in a sort of tribal union, all wear the same pale-buff raincoats, similar plastic rain-hats and sensible shoes, and all look like joan plowright, they still manage to have sons who are sas hit men or yorkshire cricketers.. confidence - take for example your common or garden down the pub englishman.

  I have to say that every Texan I ever met had a heart as big as a blimp. I have twice now found myself persuaded, against my will to spend the friendliest Texan weekends with people that I had only just met at airports!

  Did Crisis of Conscience damage you?

  it has been suggested, by a man we know, that those who read crisis of conscience, are left with a feeling of despair and are "cast adrift" after reading it.

  it is his opinion that the book shouldn't have been written, because it does harm to people.

  i do not agree, and would like to hear from anyone who has an opinion to share, so i can print all this out and show it to him.. comments, everyone, please????

  Hello Mulan,

  A good question - my own answer is no. I did not read CofC until I had fully researched the WTS flawed doctrines myself over a period of a decade. CofC certainly validated my findings for me.

  My own feeling is that if Raymond Franz has focused on individuals and personalities it certainly would have left many drifting in confusion, but he did not. He focused on the system always treating its victims, even those of the GB, with respect and dignity.

  Perhaps a lesson is contained in that attitude that we can all benefit from being reminded of. The system made the people and maintains the people.
