He talks about how the religion sells 'Certainty', which is very seductive.

by iamwhoiam in...the reason being is that you will see how it all works...it is very scary and it will definately make you doubt.
this maybe about scientology, but just replace that word with jehovah's witnesses and there is absolutely no difference.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfdl6ga1di0&feature=related.

by TimeBandit ini'm developing an ex jw satire routine of rutherford and russell debating different topics like beards and such.
all i need is to supply an audio track of them debating back and forth, and the program lip syncs with the character and makes him speak.
i can add cool expressipns to their faces while they talk.

People leave the Org but don't drop the doctrine?
by Momma-Tossed-Me inthis deserved its own thread.
one thing i have observed being able to speak freely to individuals now about the wtbts is that even though they fade, they hold one to all or a portion of the doctrine.. if you examine the doctrine openly and fully you will see it has as many holes in it as the org does.
although it may appeal to you it doesn't make it sound scripturally.

"I myself still believed in the doctrine up until just a few months ago. My husband sat me down, asked me to explain EVERYTHING I believ in and why, and I just couldn't"
I admire your husband's approach. For, if we cannot justify a strongly-held belief, why hold it?
I would rather hold an 'I don't know' position than adhere and defend beliefs that I can justify or support with convincing evidence.

baltar447: He's even more annoying in the video above. He actually states the following, "There is no such thing as a former Christian." I'm left to assume that this is the 'No True Scotsman' Fallacy. It's so annoying that it's a must-listen.

More information about the Christian apologist in the podcast above:
"Canadian apologist Sye Ten Bruggencate was raised in a Christian home in Toronto, Ontario with a passion for defending his faith. Sye’s passion for apologetics, waned however, as he repeatedly found his arguments for God’s existence ineffective. In 2005 by the grace of God, Sye was shown what he terms, "the biblical approach to apologetics" in which God is presented as the necessary foundation for everything — even the very ability to reason. He discovered how he had unintentionally been "putting God on trial" in his attempts to proclaim the validity of the Creator. In response to this new insight, in 2006, Sye launched the website proofthatgodexists.org and in 2008 began pursuing apologetics full time. Since then, Sye has been teaching Christians how to present Jehovah God to a lost world, and proving his faith in spirited debates as he shares the powerful Gospel of Jesus Christ!"

"But what do you say if they push the issue and continuely asking why your not going to meeting?"
You say this: "Your questions are making me uncomfortable. When I'm ready to discuss it, I'll contact you."
"Its so weird that they dont believe everything."
This is normal for victims of Thought Reform. If you read Hassan's book, you'll see what I'm talking about. They are captive to the concept that WT is God's Organization. All other religions are from the Devil. So, even if they don't agree with a certain point of doctrine, 'where else can they go?'. In their minds, it's Watchtower or Satan. There are no other options.

Unless you want to be disfellowshipped and shunned by your friends and family, you must keep all anti-JW thoughts to yourself. They are not going to listen to you. Further, they will disown you and side with the JWs.
Please continue learning, reading, researching and posting here. Also, please read Steve Hassan's first book, 'Combatting Cult Mind Control', to better understand why your friends and family are not going to believe anything you tell them.

In the year 1850, the Watchtower organization and its unique interpretations did not exist.
Why would they be special, today, unless Jesus did pick them in 1919?
If you cannot provide evidence to suppor this 1919 picking, why bother with them?
Throw a dart at an organization chart of religions and pick any of them. Chances are, the food and music will be much better.
