I guess the question is: Is it okay to lie if it brings joy to a person?
The GB do all the time, and for many years people follow their lead and let their children and themselves die needlessly . Joy, Joy,Joy.

one reason the jws don't celebrate christmas, besides the fact it's supposedly an insult to god, is that they purport that it's wrong to "lie" to children by telling them santa claus exists.
i really didn't give the issue much thought until recently.
the jw i used to study with called me and asked how i was doing, and we eventually got on the subject of christmas, and he brought up that it's wrong because parents lie to children by saying santa claus is real.
I guess the question is: Is it okay to lie if it brings joy to a person?

minimus,
I have been away for several days. Your assumption is correct, the picture to the left really does it for me.

i think some might get the impression that it's not right to express anything critical of this board.
some may feel that if a poster wants to express an opinion that is not in syc with the majority, they should not speak of it.if someone feels they have a valid criticism, i do think it is "healthy" to be able to express that opinion.
i am not referring to persons that seem to always complain about everything but i'm thinking of our not stifling a person.
min,
Not directly, (neither am I functionally illiterate- I can't function, hahaha) I was on a list if they were to call.

minimus,
It depends what you are criticizing

Perhaps there is a correlation with this scenario. We were taught as JW's that we had the 'truth' that nobody else did and everybody else had inferior viewpoints to our own. This form of self-hypnosis filled us a sort of stunning arrogance that allowed the uneducated to feel that they had not just the ability but the right to patronize the educated with pseudo science and illogical theology. None of us, however we might like to feel about it, were immune from this conditioning.
I used to be ashamed of this attitude. An elder could be functionally illiterate and have a superior air about himself if invited by a university as a guest speaker on JW beliefs. Little did he know he was there as a dog and pony show.

there's every reason to believe the watchtower watches this place and similar ones around the globe.
they tell witnesses the internet is evil but they watch what goes on here.
they are true hypocrites!
minimus,
....Who knows if some questionable ones are trying to extract information from us by emails or pms? Who knows what the Watchtower Society or some renegade elder has up their sleeve?
How true! Those filthy bastards would do that. A good point to remember is, evenlually you wont care about anything those little worm people have to think or say.

let's see now......... monday night: prepare for the tuesday night book study i will conduct.. tuesday night: drive over to an almost inactive brother's house to conduct the book study.
prepared questions for the children ahead of time.
the answer was always 'god's organization'!.
Out,
That is the most depressing life I ever had. I'm not a depressed person either that life just sucked.

Brother minimus,
Even when I considered myself a witness their words bugged me, calling me"Brother Hochimin" in public used to send me through the roof. I never wanted to appear as a religious nut, but once the cat was out of the bag it's more diffiCult to get gack in. Just quiting is best. "Jehovah's Witnesses" is one I still use hopefully only to expose it as a cult.

Only when one thinks the JW's are of any consequence would they be mentioned as to such acts. Their arrogance demands it be told however.
Herk,
One weekend when his mother was ill, another JW and I stopped by to see her. The son greeted us with a smile and then disappeared into another room. Moments later, he came storming out of the room in a rage and even appeared to be foaming at the mouth. He started battering me and stopped only after his mother repeatedly ordered him to. For a while I thought I was a gonner since he came at me like a battering ram. I had bruises for more than a week due to that incident.
Why didn't his mother report him to the proper authorities? Her reason was that the elders said they had everything under control and that they were making good progress in helping him.
No disrespect intended, but why didn't you report this yourself ?

Teen pleads innocent to setting fire to Jehovah's Witness church
WESTFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- A teenager was ordered held on $25,000 bail after he allegedly set a fire that destroyed a Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall.
Robert Nicoletti, 18, of Westfield, pleaded innocent at his arraignment Monday in Westfield District Court on charges of burning a building and breaking and entering. A pretrial conference was scheduled for Dec. 30.
Nicoletti was arrested after he was seen leaving the area of the church, police said. The fire was reported shortly before 6 a.m. on Sunday.
No one was injured, but the two-alarm blaze gutted the 25-by-80-foot church on Southwick Road, according to Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Pac. A nearby storage shed that Nicoletti allegedly broke into was also destroyed.
Authorities estimated the damage at more than $375,000.
Pac said a suspicious liquid that may be gasoline was found around the building, and that apparently sped the fire's spread. He said it took about two hours to get the blaze under control.
The fire was not believed to be a hate crime.
"We found there's no direct motive of an anti-religious activity," state Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said.
"At this point it simply appears to be a crime of opportunity," said Westfield Police Detective David Ragazzini.
The 35-year-old building had been used by more than 200 Jehovah's Witnesses with two congregations sharing the building, said Brett Van Sickle of Russell, an elder with one congregation.
He said the building had been insured.
