My Chat with My Older JW Mom about Missing Meetings due to Health
by flipper init never ceases to amaze me how the mind control of jehovah's witnesses makes their older people feel so guilty about missing meetings.
i mean - they have experiences all the time at assemblies about sister " white hair " barely able to stand on her feet , yet she goes pounding on doors in neighborhoods in inclement weather , perhaps on crutches handing out watchtowers to people.
you hear of how " admirable " it is for a senior citizen impaired in a wheelchair , perhaps on breathing devices - jeopardizing catching a cold by attending metings perhaps among kids with snot running out their nose and coughing in older ones faces.

the only thing is, which i feel really sad about, is that this has become their whole lives. living now in what could very well be the last of their years they want to believe as much as they can that the paradise is true. so they do as much as they can to get there. and it is true. i always heard at my meetings a brother say, look at these older ones what i fine example they are, never missing one meeting.
i think this would make them want to, or feel obliged to continue in that role

Well to me what it seems like is he is one of those people who believes what the wittnesses have to say but doesnt know how to correctly implement it in their lives. They feel as if they should have certain things they can do since it is only natural. and then with the economy etc. as it is people jsut do not ahve the time to go to do something they do not fully believe in or want to do. In my opinion he sees the weaknesses of the religion and some things that are wrong about it but he is still holding onto the belief system, even if he does not go to meetings.
it is similar to what i did. i guess what he is doing is fading in a way. but i stil went to meeting for a year but never went to service and missed about half of the meetings per month, some things i couldnt get over that i thought were true, and others i knew were wrong. i also felt that i should be free to live my life..
and talking to you in disbelief of something his father had said to you sure shows that atleast he has his head on his shoulders.he will probably realize what a fade is and will be leaving soon, for how it sounds anyways. some of the information they feed you, since it is in a form of mind control, is very hard to get over, so people cannot just leave.

i know how you feel. i finally jsut lsot the last thing i wanted out of my past life. my sister and i wish i would have tried to get them to accept my letter of dissasociation but i would never ever ever go back. why continue to subject yourself to negative thought patterns and mind control once youve seen the light. be glad you are free and living, and work on trying to enlight the people you miss... :)

Apocalyptic Cults Always Predict the " Last Days "-Why it's a Total Farce
by flipper ini've been reading the book, " the kingdom of the cults " by walter martin.
he's a " christian " so being an atheist/agnostic i've had to wade through some of the more subjective christian comments and observations he makes on things.
but he does see through the bs of cults in predicting the last days.

THE ORACLE- "The account of Jesus appears to be just another story about yet another "son of God" who was born of a virgin on December 25th, died and was resurrected, travelled around with 12 disciples, and performed miracles.
There are too many other "Jesus" accounts in ancient history for it to be merely a coincidence.
Have you researched the history of the mythical character of Horus of ancient Egypt? Some people exagerrate the similarities, but when you look at the account objectively it does seem very suspicious"
zeitgeist baby!!.... have you seen the movie?
this is how the story goes, jesus is the son of gad and died on the cross to be resurrected three days later. explanation= jesus is not the son of god but rather the sun god. he died on the cross as the son moved to reside in the middle of the southern crux constellation, then three days later moved back up to its original position seemigly being ressurected as it were. this happens ofcourse, around dec 25....
CHALAM- "The nature of predictions of science is to do with scientific laws and theory. However, prophecy is to do with the revealed knowledge of God. Often there are some very specific details which defy any logic but can only be explained with foreknowledge of future events. For sure, there is much in the vehicle of much prophecy i.e. dreams and visions which is allegorical (beasts and whores included) but there is plenty which is literal. My JW friend passes huge portions of the bible off as "not literal" and "purely parabolical", prophecies, words of Jesus and such to the point where little is literally truth.
With regard to the beast and the horns, have a look at the Treaties of Rome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and see how that correlates. Also, the vision explained in Daniel 2. I believe along with many others that the EU is the revived Rome and the last kingdom on earth before Christ returns to set up His kingdom without end"
first of all... history repeats itself. just because it is written in the bible and something similar happened in present times does not mean that it is a prophecy. The information presented is being compared because as i said earlier history repeats itself and it makes sense that something that happened in those days may happen today just on a larger scale.
or if you want a laugh, my boyfriend and i talk aboutthe fact that, the writer of revelation was stuck on an island eating god knows what (mushrooms) for days.. how about thinking that these things have no relevence what so ever and are purely a drug trip written down haha
as for flippers original post i will have to answer tomorrow when my brain is working since it took me about half an hour to write it before with my stuoid adhd and somehow the computer auto deleted it before it was posted.

finding purpose and meaning in life, a religous ideal
by chellechelle inwhat i have found most interesting is that many of us, upon leaving the cult, become depressed and are afraid because we feel as if our lives have no purpose anymore or that we should be doing something meaningful with our lives but are not.
i have become sick of feeling this way and watching otheres feel this way aswell.
this is what i have come to realize.
-
chellechelle
yes i agree wth everything you are saying and i strongly feel that i need love in my life ad i am a very loving person. however that is not a purpose... all im saying in this thread is for people to come to realize is there no "purpose" this implys we are made, which we are not. it is the very definition of the word. however we instead of having purpose choose to live our lives with love and helping others in a meaningful way.
