  i can't just give up believing in god,but its understandable when god was taking from you,i hope you find peace gods not in a building!

  and he does forgive you when you go to your private place sometimes you can't right a wrong,as long as you add the one you wronged and mean it,we pay all sins through death,christ did that for us!

  I feel that most of the hate in this post is coming out of you. Were you wronged by an atheist? Someone obviously has made you think that atheists are immoral rapists and murders, that we like to kill people "just to see what it feels like". I imagine an equal percentage, if not more, of those who call themselves Christians have done the same. Throughout human history, most of the worst atrocities have been committed in the name of religion, although these are admittedly perversions of these religions. They are usually small, fundamentalist groups.

  This by no means applies to all Christians, but I have always felt that a big tenet of many Christian sects, certainly JW's, is that human beings are unable to police themselves, unable to control the impulsive animal instincts that we all have, and thus need to live in fear of God. In other words, if one has no fear of punishment, one has no control over their actions. To me, not performing bad actions out of fear, rather than not performing them out of a compassion for humanity or knowledge of right or wrong, is just as bad as actually performing them. If you don't steal because you think you will get caught, rather than because you don't want to take something you don't own from your fellow man, does that make you less of a thief?

  Most of the atheists I have met have been highly intelligent, highly educated, highly compassionate and highly moral people. Maybe you were just angry at something else, something tweaked you off, you had a bad day, I don't know, but I feel very judged by that post. I am an atheist now, and I am proud to say I don't need to live in fear of punishment, from above or from worldly authorities, to keep me in line. I do what I know is right and don't do what I know is wrong.

  Please think before you spout hateful generalizations at groups of people.

  That said, you really didn't offend me. But please, please, please, be tolerant of other people's beliefs or lack thereof. If there is one thing you should have learned from being a JW, it is that.

  once having been a member of the jw religion and now that you have left, what is the worst thing that you realise it has done to you?

  i.e has it left you mentally scarred?

  has it left you with serious family trouble?

  suicide and explosion at Kingdom Hall on Sat. July 27

  a bizarre explosion at a church east of kansas city killed one man on saturday afternoon.

  atf agents said the explosion at the jehovah's witness' kingdom hall on foggy bottom drive was intentionally set, and that the person who died appears to have committed suicide.

  witnesses described large amounts of smoke pouring out of the building, which they said was just recently completed.

  Hmmm. Let's see.

  The JW religion has . . .

  Took my mother's childhood. . .prevented her from going to college (she was college aged shortly before 1975) .... made her hate her mother and father . . . . made her miserable all her life, which she in turn took out on me. Fortunately she realized what life was really about before she died, and I had at least a couple of good years with her. It made me hate her for a long time until I realized better. It took a good portion of my childhood, made it very difficult for me to make good choices as a young adult. Made it impossible for me to this day to have a normal romantic relationship . . . made it so I have no contact with any of my extended family . . . made me go through therapy . . . I almost wish I had been beaten instead. At least those scars heal. I have very little self-esteem, I try to deny it and tell myself that it's not true, but I hate myself.

  Maybe this sounds like I'm trying to blame everything wrong with me and with my life on JW's. I have a lot of weaknesses, and a lot of the bad stuff that's happened to me (and there has been plenty) has been my own fault. The JW's and their effects on my parents, my mother in particular, which was then projected onto me, have left me feeling totally incapable of doing anything for myself, which has led to me making a lot of very bad choices to assert my independence.

  WT Study vs Public editions(the new bait & switch?)

  i grabbed one of the public editions of the wt from the wife's car yesterday.

  o noticed there was no mention of the fds, god's org or any of the hardline stances found in the study editions.

  no verses frorm matt 24, proverbs 4 or any of the other standard verses found inthe kool-aid versions, but a host of others concerning the holy spirit.... so how is the wtbs still so successful at the age old bait & switch?.

  I have heard that the WT's that come out on the 1st are for the general public/introductory brainwashing sessions, and those that come out on the 15th are for bible study/advanced brainwashing sessions. My grandma told me about the two editions--because no doubt the general public would not understand the magazines that come out on the 15th. She still mails a Watchtower and Awake! to me every month. I really don't have the heart to tell her to stop.

  Is this correct, or do they actually make two editions twice a month?

  " i did not come here expecting what has happened to me.

  i am reading experiences and doctrine and suddenly getting very angry and confused.

  I joined this forum two weeks ago, and it's flooding me with old memories, things I'd forgotten or buried, and things which I never knew but now that I look back they are things which make a whole lot of sense. I think it's a good thing. I half want to sign up as a missionary to go convert my family to anything else, anything at all, but I don't think it's really a good idea--I'm already enough of a black sheep.

  Anyway, know that you are not alone at all.

  does anyone ever wonder how their seemingly intelligent family members can be so totally taken in by this religion?

  i look at my parents and just wonder how in the world do you fall for this jw crap?

  neither of my parents are college educated but by no means are they stupid and have good judgement and sense when it comes to a lot of things, but not this religion.

  It appears they had a soft spot in their heart, in that they blew it up when it was empty.

  I think most ex-JW's are much more disgruntled with the organization than with the "flock" (at least if you don't count the authority figures).
