Triple Bypass Surgery -- Blood?
by gloobster ini'm worried about my uncle--he's going in for triple bypass surgery on wednesday, and he is still a devout jw, and therefore will refuse blood.
does anyone know anything about this type of surgery?
obviously it's major surgery, although it's much more routine than it used to be.

What is YOUR bible of choice?
by gloobster inalthough i'm pretty much an atheist, i still like reading the bible.
it's an amazing literary masterwork to say the least.. my question is, after discovering that the new world translation of the wts was poorly translated and altered in ways designed to support their various peculiar doctrines (see john 1:1, etc.
), what bible translation are you all the most fond of?.

Bah Humbug?
by gloobster inmy parents more or less disassociated themselves from the borg when i was very young, and i kept going to the hall with my grandpa, an elder, until i was about 13 or so.
however, although my parents did not profess to be jehovah's witnesses any longer, they also did no move on to anything else--they were terrified of what their relatives and the jw's might think, and i don't know if they knew how to move on anyway.
anyway, i did not attempt to celebrate christmas until i was living on my own, i think when i was 21. .

WTF makes you annointed?

probably my first on here, but this has always bugged me, and i've never received a satisfactory answer.. how does someone become annointed?
when i was a child, my grandpa, who was an elder, told me that if you are of the annointed, you just know.

Sing Praises to Jehober
by gloobster inlast week when i was tipsy i ordered a copy of sing praises to jehovah, and it came in the mail today.
i hadn't heard some of the songs since i was a child, and i've rediscovered some of the lyrics.
they are quite amusing (albeit disturbing).. this is a classic everyone knows, song number 2. .

JW's as a cult
by gloobster inone of the hardest things for me to admit, even more than a decade after having cut off witness ties as much as possible, was the possibility that they might be a cult.. i would always tell people that jw's had messed up ideas, that they screwed up people's families, etc., but a cult?
surely i wasn't born into a cult.

Stevie Nicks -- witch?
by gloobster indo the jw's still consider stevie nicks from fleetwood mac to be a pagan witch-type?
i picked out the song "landslide" for my mother's funeral about a month ago, which most of my extended family, jw's one and all, attended.
it didn't even cross my mind when i selected the song, my mom just had always liked it.

Jehovancholia
by gloobster inso, finding this forum and making a couple posts, along with other events in my life in the recent past, has made me a little melancholy about the old hingdom kall.
since most of my memories of attending meetings, going out in service, etc., are from my childhood, they tend to have that effect on me.. i have played the piano for 19 years now.
it's my one real passion.

Hi! I'm new here!
by gloobster ini just signed up here, so i guess i should let everyone know a few things about myself.. my maternal grandfather was an elder in a congregation here, and he and my grandmother raised my mother quite strictly as a jehovah's witness.
my father's father was also a jehovah's witness, though much less devout.
when my parents were in their mid-20's they more or less disassociated themselves from the flock.
