What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?
by flipper ini'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.
and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.
so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

Why the Memorial partaker numbers have gone up...
by undercover in...well, as was explained to me anyway.. since countries that were previously under ban are now able to report, this has resulted in the partaker numbers to go up.. .

It's apparent from the scriptures that neither Jesus nor the first century Christians viewed the resurrection as something that would grievously separate believers for all eternity. That in itself makes the idea of two hopes difficult to accept.
Just as there are those that partake who have symptoms of mental illness, there are no doubt those that exhibit signs of self-importance in many areas of their lives who also partake. However, some, in sane and sober moments, have had emotional experiences that they could only (at the time) interpret as a calling from god. It's not surprising that they may decide to partake after such an experience.

This is my second year of choosng not to attend. I "celebrate" now by remembering the beautiful twilight sky and full(ish) moon as I walked out for what I knew would be the last time. It was closure.

My son who is grown-up (more or less) asked me the same thing. He quit going to meetings when he was 14 so he's old enough to remember what went on and has many criticisms of his own. Still he can't understand why people would do this. I tried to explain to him, but he finally told me, "I guess I just never felt as strongly about it as you did." I think that's probably true. And I'm kinda glad I was a "failure" as a parent to bring him up in the mental regulating etc, etc.

That's a lot of pressure to be under. I'm sorry you're feeling so desperate right now. I'm not the best one to give you advice because, for one, I'm a woman. But I can tell you this for sure: Not all women feel the way you describe here. I've never viewed a relationship with another human being, sexual or not, as a game. And I'd never expect a man to do all the work in the relationship.
I'm sure you'll get some better replies, but I just wanted you to know that somebody heard you.

For those of you attending college now (or at least recently have)....
by 2pink inplease remind me what the work load is like.
i went to college and took a few classes in my early 20s, and found it all very easy, but i had a lot less responsibility back then so i think my perception was skewed.
now i am 31, married, 2 kids, soon to be 3. i work very part time from home.

Congratulations! Excellent decision to return to school! I just graduated this past summer, so here's my take on your purposed schedule:
Unless you know the information presented in all of these classes with little to no need of studying, I would recommend you do not take six classes. Or five. A rule of thumb is that each unit of credit requires 2-3 hours of outside classwork per week.
I understand your desire to return to school, but especially in the midst of the family events coming up, I'd give serious thought to how much you can afford to commit to. Something will have to give. I'm sure you don't want it to be either your GPA or your children!

Being Under Cult Mind Control is a Psychological Disorder - Steve Hassan
by flipper inthought perhaps some newer members who haven't heard some of hassan's thoughts on mind control might relate to this from their own experiences in jehovah's witnesses .
even though mind control is initiated by the cult involved in controlling it's members - hassan points out - it actually becomes a psychological disorder which can entrap the victim himself or herself - all the while - as they are being controlled by the leaders of cults.. on page 55 of hassan's book " releasing the bonds - empowering people to think for themselves " it states what happens in a destructive cult , " in a destructive cult, the locus of control shifts to the group or it's leader .
the new recruit abdicates his ability to make decisions.

Supposedly, making their own decisions and choices is what got Adam and Eve into trouble. Humans don't have the ability or the right to decide what's good and what's bad, only God does. God uses humans to convey his thoughts to other humans. If you accept all this, it's the perfect set-up for abdicating your thinking ability to a man-made organization that claims to be being used by God.
