Three escaped prisoners are lost in the blazing hot desert.
One of them is English, another one is German and finally the last one is Polish.
After a couple of days wandering aimlessly and almost giving up all hope of being found,
up walks a tall man with olive complexion dressed in bright white linen.
Looking over the three prisoners he says in a highly resonating voice,
"my master will allow you one item or thing that you ask for before I show you the path you are to take out of this place."
He asks each of them what would they like.
The Englishman says "sir I would like to have a tall glass of iced tea". In turn his request is granted.
The German says "I can think of nothing better at this moment than a good cold frosty beer." His request too is likewise granted.
Lastly he looks at the Polack and asks what is it that you would like?
The Polack shifts from side to side in contemplation then says "I want a car door!"
With a perplexed look on him and lightly rubbing his chin in discernment
the man in white linen asks, "a car door? Why would you want a car door?"
With a look on his face as if he had just solved all the worlds problems
the Polack replies, "that way I can roll down the window when it gets too hot".

Religion
by Undecided inis there anyway to verify any religion as having the truth?
is it just a feeling some have that they get from believing something "spiritual" caused them to have a relationship with a god.. the preacher of the church that my wife and i attend said that jesus was god today.
i was reading in the bible about how jesus would leave his disciples to pray.

As Uncle Spanky use to say trying to explain the Trinity to people while he was three sheets to the wind.
Its like this you see...its like a six pack of beer. THere is 6 individual bottles of beer in it, but they all came from the same batch. So in essence they got the same stuff in them. 6 individual beers but they together make up one six-pack and they are all in agreement. They each taste great and are less filling.
Needless to say after uncle Spanky explained it that way it made me start drinking. He also explained how Saint Nick could deliver all those toys around the globe in one night but that will have to be a story for another time.

LOL FHN !
These guys are funny. I got kin folk down here in the deep south that those two remind me so much of.
And I can't say for sure that my great uncle don't have a moonshine still tucked way back in the mountains (think mountains like the ones where the FBI tried to find Eric Robert Rudolph) but he sure doesn't like any revenuers coming around. heehe
One thing about those ole timers is they tell it like it is whether it be Democrats or Republicans. They didn't sugar coat anything.

I have to say that I've always had a thing for Long Island iced tea (not the type with 5 liquors but the ones with 7 different liquors in them)
It don't matter the occasion, they just go down nicely and have that extra kick that hits you after you think you handled that just fine only to find out 10 minutes later that there was more to it. (heehe)
I still laugh at my wife trying to bowl when we first got married after trying her first long island iced tea. It was priceless. Needless to say it immediately became her drink of choice.
We've been married for over 20 years and still to this day I've never been able to talk her into drinking a beer. She hates the taste, smell etc.
Oh well that just leaves more for me on the beer rack.

Anne Rice comes to Jesus
by Dogpatch inhttp://www.cnn.com/2008/showbiz/books/10/31/books.anne.rice.ap/index.html.
new orleans, louisiana (ap) -- it's halloween, and anne rice has a new book -- a memoir, in fact -- that's climbing best-seller lists.
everything is normal, then.. anne rice says she hopes to take her skills writing vampire books and "redeem myself.".

My question would be after reading that is did she accept Jesus after the hurricane Katrina crisis?
Sorta like when the events of 9/11 happened and the churches were busting at the seams with all the influx but after many months it started tapering off again around here. Not sure if they all accepted Jesus or just got a little scared of the end time speculations.
Regardless if it brings her inner happiness, peace and contentment who am I to argue with that. To each their own.
Oh and by the way Randy appreciate the hard work you've put into your websites.
Very informative and helpful to many of us.

IP_SEC your comment there are people starving in the world. Jackasses
What in the hello is this got to do with anything?
Whether those people dressed up or not would not change the fact that there are people starving in the world. Thats like getting onto the witnesses at this summers district convention because someone at the drama had to dress up like Scolios (a character mind you that doesn't even appear in the bible).
Whether the drama went on or not wouldn't change if people starved or not.
So I'm not quite following what you're getting at.As far as this guy dressing up like the devil who knows what affect it might have on the young ones attending. If they associate the devil costume with attending a convention when they were young it might make them question why he was there later in life. As many psychologist will tell you when a kid does word association or people/person association with something its hard to break that connection. Of course it could also just as well backfire and I realize that. But nonetheless I bet it will make those young ones have a few questions in their minds even if they don't voice them to their parents for fear of what they would think of them.
I would like to state tho I agree with the idea that this was not the best way of getting the majority there to even question their teachings. I'm sure some were even in more of a hurry to get inside the building than normal.

I've seen similar things to what you described in my own large extended family MMO so I know where you're coming from. It's kinda idiotic now that I look back on it all over the years. Some cousins not going to a wedding because it was not a elder being over the wedding discourse. Others not going to a family members funeral because it was in a church and they were strongly encouraged not to go by the congregation elders for the sake of the conscious of others.(in hind site I think it was they were afraid they'd see what they were told about churches was not always the way things were and that demons wouldn't jump down on them)
Its funny how some have commented on here that some decided not to come so big deal. Get over it. I can tell they didn't come from a kingdom hall like the one I attended. There was no personal decision. It was like playing mother may I, or simon says. You basically were expected to clear everything with the elders before being given the all clear to attend anything. So it was like you have the right to follow your conscious on matters but let us tell you what your bible based conscious better be telling you. It kinda defeated the purpose of certain things being a conscious matter if they going to tell you what to do anyhow. I would go into detail on some of these matters but I know there is some cousins of mine that read this board and would get offended so I will leave it at that and not elaborate so as not to offend them.

Even trying to hold my composure with all my might I would have to admit when I see the Disney movie Ole Yeller I will get up and go to the restroom when they have to shoot that dog after all it had been thru.
But by far the saddest thing I've seen that brought immediate tears to my eyes was when i saw the news report on TV about the Iraqi boy who found his fathers body which had been decapitated. He was very young..if I remember right around 7 or 8 years old. What he seen that day no person EVER should have to witness or be exposed to. He went into shock and withdrew into himself. The report went on to show how he would just sit there almost emotionless, like a empty shell of a former person.
He would no longer play with the other school children, wouldn't talk or express himself. He barely eat and would just gaze into the distance with tears in his eyes.
Sometimes when life for me gets really bad I sometimes think of him and realize it could be much worse. I would have to say if there was one person I could wrap my arms around and hug and try to console it would be him. To this day I can't get that image of him out of my mind. I would like to be able to say to him, son the people that did that to your dad were truly wicked, evil people which I have a hard time even calling people. But please know that we aren't all like that and don't give up on humanity because of crazies like them.
That there is still some good people left on this world that woulda tried to stop them even at the risk of their own lives.
I will stop right there because as I related this story tears have already formed in my eyes once again. It kinda did feel therapeutic to write it down and see what really bothers me in black and white. Just wish I was able to help him some way since his dad not there.
sincerely,

obama...oompa....all he lacks is a p basically....and insurance issues
by oompa ini am soooo tired of seeing his name here!...it just looks too much like mine.
as much as i think he is pathetically inexperienced...like palin......i kinda hope he could fix healthcare.
my little biz is now going to have to pay 79k this year for healthcare for just 16 employees and their family......and that is only with us paying 60 percent of the premium....and for 5 straight years we have had to raise our deductable........this sucks...for 15 years i was so proud to pay 100 percent of the insurance benefit, but now i cant.......it is depressing.......i am a small business, and really can not afford the 79k i have to contribute this year (tears in my eyes dammit).....the oldest employee i have is only 50 years old.......and when that happend our rates went to hell even faster....one kid.....only 11 years old is 179 bucks a month!!!

When I first saw the name of this thread i thought obama and Oompa was joining forces. I was thinking to myself now thats a ticket that would have the country reeling for centuries to come. The double O's in complete control.
I was just visualizing in my mind Oompa getting up on the stage and telling everyone how his former religion helped him to become a better man by showing him how not to treat others.(heehee)

Dear Grace,
Thanks for sharing that with us. It is so nice to see how much you mean to your grand daughter and vice versa how much she means to you.
From the past post of yours that I have read I have to agree it seems you bring a bright spot into so many lives on here and I was one of the many that posted on your good-bye thread and am so glad you decided to hang around a bit more with us straglers on the board.
I sure hope someone says the right thing or does the right thing to get you to re-think about posting on other boards after this one shuts down. It's good to hear from the young ones, middle aged as well as the upper middle-aged such as you Grace. (remember old age starts at 100 so you got 19 more years to go. Heck you haven't even caught up to some of the ones on the GB that are approaching the century mark.)
If you do get a chance to check out another board I hope you at least stop by JWSupportforum.com and say hi to all of us that have migrated over there. Its a bit different but you will see many names and faces that are so familiar to you from here. I know quite a few are still posting on both boards like me for now.
with much love and respect for both you and your family,
StoneWall
