Christmas. I love everything about it, and always have. Used to go shopping MORE in December just so I could hear the music and see the lights. I think it's more magical for me than for others because I have none of the stress attached to the holiday; I've always been able to enjoy it aurally and visually and unadulterated by negativity.
Halloween is intriguing, but I really HATE the horror-movie aspects of it. Violence disgusts me, so the bloody hand prints and the serial-killer costumes and stuff really turn me off. I like the very basics of the holiday, although yesterday was the first time in my life that I didn't wish I could go trick-or-treating. I looked at all that candy those kids got and my stomach turned.
Easter is the holiday I feel most religious through, although I think about Jesus more often around Christmas, but I think more deeply about his life around Easter. That's when I feel most compelled to go to church and take communion. Probably due to my "memorial" roots ...
New Years Eve has been loads of fun for me the past decade, but as a "holiday" it's too short.
Valentine's day is nice. Love the warm fuzzy sexual overtones.
4th of July is fun too, but I'm still not too comfortable with nationalism. Studied it in college history class and realized it's a modern invention that divides people. I hate divisions.
Thanksgiving -- well, been celebrating some form of it all my life. It's sorta tarnished by feelings of sneaky guilt. And it's all about food, which is lame. Always wished I had a TV-commercial family rather than my own boring one. Have been to inlaws and friend's relatives as well ... all boring. Love the decorations though.

What holiday is your favorite?
by gaiagirl ini really enjoy halloween.
the air is crisper and cooler, a relief from the hot summer.
the season is a celebration of the harvest, as the earth has once more provided her bounty which the people store up to last through the winter until spring.. .

My smart son and his response to his grandma! re: no more book study
by Texasgurl inmy son, who is 17, saw my mother while out in service on saturday and was shocked at the way she acted.
he said she smiled and jumped out of the car, gave him a big hug and looked at the others in the car and said how much she loved him.
needless to say, he was not fooled by her complete fake attitude and the show she put on for everyone.

I seem to remember tough economic times in the 70s ... some in the 80s as well .... we still went to bookstudy!

You should have used "told us" in your "truthful" sentence, since you proved that it is the only correct way to say it.
The original scripture doesn't make sense to me. -

by Witness 007 ini have used my "bible research skills" for a new purpose....to find the winner of the melbourne cup horse race on the 4th of nov our public holiday for horse racing!
i have never gambled but me and the wife are going to the race and laying down a bet.
my research and tips from experts has lead me to this conclusion:.

you can make "box" bets too, and sometimes make more money betting a horse to place rather than win, if the favorite is being bet too heavily.
I'm a newbie at horse betting but it sure is exciting! I have the image forever etched in my mind of standing at the rail at the finish line and watching my horse win. It's something beautiful. -

My dad just came out... as one of the annointed
by Pwned ini know i don't post here that often but this just kind of blew me away.
my dad just "came out" recently as annointed and i find it so weird.
he's always been pretty level headed and he's been in for over 30 years.

Which is why I left JW and went to find another church to take communion at. Because I couldn't possibly sit there and be judged by 200 people whether I was qualified enough to put my lips on a glass.
When I "felt the feeling", it came with the realization that salvation is not tied to one particular church, and that heaven is open to all. -

oh gosh this reminds me of a conversation I overheard:
Person 1: "Well Brother Lastname is professing to be of the annointed now."
Person 2: "Oh, NO! Not Jim! He's really gone off the deep end, now."
Person 1: "No, not Jim Lastname! BOB Lastname!!"
Person 2: "OH! Okay. (*whew!*) Bob has always been such a fine example." -

Boring bookstudy book...which one was the worst?
by White Dove ini remember the old timers saying that the red babylon book was the hardest to understand.. in my memory, i'd have to say the isaiah books and daniel book were the most involved and boring.. the revelation book had gorgeous pictures in it (the writing was horribly boring), so i just looked at them, and i was 22 at the first study of it!.

I hated the Revelation book because it always induced inner eye-rolling, each and every time. "The Great Revered Holy Bible foretold ASSEMBLIES and freakin' WATCHTOWERS???? You gotta be kidding me!!! Trumpet blasts are WHAT??? Oh, c'mon, this has gotta change someday, I'll just turn my ears off now"
I didn't mind the Daniel book; in fact I enjoyed the actual history contained in it very much. Most of my comments were about secular history.
Don't remember the others. -

...Would you like to Know the Truth?...
by OUTLAW inas most of you know..i live in the canadian wilderness,on a mountain..going to civilization is not cheap..it`s time consuming and gas is not cheap to make the trip..$15.00 round trip..or..$200.00 taxi cab fare(round trip),plus cab fare to get around town............i drove up my ranch driveway..and..got out of my truck to unlock the massive ranch gate..stuffed into the gate was the new wbt$ tract, wrapped in a plastic bag!..the title of the tract:"would you like to know the truth?
"...............actually..yes,i would like to know the truth!.....what kind of an idiot would spend all that time to drive to the middle of nowhere, spend all that money on gas, spend money on plastic bags, just to leave me a worthless wbt$ tract??!!....lol!

oh gosh, except for the gas money, you're a fader's dream! Drive all day without talking to anybody (what, did they expect to find you standing at your GATE?? Leave the tract and run!)
Maybe someone with a hybrid .... or a whole carload pitching in for the tank ... not a bad price to pay for easy hours! -

Did you understand doctrine when you were "in"?
by halcyon indid you ever actually understand most of the doctrine when you were a jw?
or did you think that you didn't understand it because you didn't study enough?
that's what i thought about paradise earth.

That's what I mean. I wasn't interested enough, so I took it all at face value. "This is The Truth, so it must be defendable. I'm just not motivated to prove it to myself."
Probably what kept me from rebelling as a teenager, darnit.
