jws have certain must haves.
for example a jw needs his or her own "bookbag".
an elder needs an "elder case", something very big, because after all, he's an elder!
the light that keeps "getting brighter and brighter".....or flickers or burns out or something........
A NAME BADGE for the DC!!!!!! A must have!!!
Their own special version of the bible!!!!!!
Their own "key words" that only they use........"truth" "friends" etc
and it goes on and on and on........

i just had to share this funny and also pathetically sad story with everyone.
today my mom took me to a doc appt and while we were in the waiting room the story about the california eathquake came on.
it got my mom talking about the earthquake several months back in illinois.

ok my gay friends, i'm going to pick on you a minute, but you know i love you all... .
me... liberal male, could care less what you do with your sex organs, i only care about what i do with mine...that said, i've several gay friends... none of which are monogamous.
so, my next door neighbors are lesbians, neither are the hate all males types like some i have known in the past... matter of fact, one loves sports and hangs out here watching football and other sports with me at least once a week.

i was wondering what attracts a lurker/n00b to post for the first time.
i made my first post in someone else's thread eschewing the "hi, i'm new" thing.. for anyone, particularly the lurkers/noobies:.
For me it was being able to talk to so many others that feel the same way....In my situation my family is still immersed heavily in it so it's awesome to be able to express myself freely.
And it's almost like a therapy. I've yet to find any therapists that truly understand. Only those that have been in "that religion" can totally understand.
And it was a relief to really know that it's not some defect in me that made me leave. That's how a lot of them view it. I had one (who was on her way to bond her son out of JAIL) tell me that when "I get myself straightened out" that I'd be back. I looked at her and said I don't see where I'm screwed up. I'm NOT in jail, I have a (gasp) college education and a mortgage and live a pretty decent life. She really backtracked then.

The way I handled things with my parents was to tell them I couldn't do the religion for them. And that I didn't want to be a hypocrite. I did NOT get into beliefs or questions. The main reason being that the JW's feel any type of questioning or doubt is apostacy. I knew that if I did that, I risked my close relationship with my parents. Maybe this was a cowardly way to do things. But I knew that I wasn't going to change my parents minds and they weren't going to change mine. I ADORE my parents. And I respect them immensely. I know that even if I questioned things that they would still love me BUT I didn't want to not be able to go out to dinner with them or do other things. Does that make sense? I too want to enjoy the time I have left with them (they are 79 and 80 yrs old).
I'm sure your parents are very upset about your choice, but trust me on this..mine were too and it got better. I know not every situation is the same. But it worked for me.
And this may sound paranoid but don't put things in writing that you don't want the elders in the congregation to see. It can be used against you. Your parents my not intentionally show it to them for that reason but it could be used just the same.
Just my thoughts.....

i am trying to understand the behavior of my neighbor's pooch.
she's truly a love, but .... she's part german shepherd (and looks it) and part blue heeler (issue of the dingo [?]).
A good vet that specializes in behavior is a start. Also obedience school. Your dog has you very well trained!! What a smart dog!!! Actually I mean that. German Shepherds are incredibly intelligent. Sometimes they need jobs. Study up on both the breeds in your dog and you'll understand them better. Sounds like your dog has quite a drive. It could be channeled in ways such as agility, search and rescue and obedience competition.
Don't give up!!!! And there are good drugs out there but that's the last resort. Dawg is right. Don't give her what she wants and eventually she'll realize that the yipping is not getting her what she wants.
Crate training is also a good thing. But not as punishment. More as a cool down place.
Some use shock collars. I've never used them. I'm not sure what I think about them. But people that I know that have used them (with restraint) have had good results. There are lot of different opinions on them so I'm just putting that out there. I'm not advocating them.

Oh there's a lot I can't do. And there are times that it's wise for me not to try to lift something(to conserve my joints not cause I'm a girl). And everytime I go to buy water softener salt(the 40-80lb bags) I get some kid asking me if he can carry it out. I'm like, Uh you wanna come home with me and carry it into the basement and dump it in the system too?
But I can use a drill. I can use a screwdriver. I can even check my own oil. AND by jiminy when it comes to a hardware store I WANT TO TALK TO A GUY!!!!!!!!! Does that make me sexist? giggle
I also don't come apart at the seams if I break a fingernail! HA!
I know my limitations and I know my strengths!!
And it's wonderful to hear a guy say he appreciates a strong woman!
sorry off topic.....(the elders HATED my attitude !!! I was a paramedic at the time I was still in the JW's..NOT ladylike or what a sister should be doing)

I remember some elder asking me why a single sister would want to buy house. I retorted "why would I want to marry to have one!?". This is the same elder whose wife dumped him. I use to hide behind my dad cause he just reeked of that "I must marry cause I'm burning" thing. EUWWWW!
Not only did I buy my house, I bought another one. I do maintenance on my own lawn mower(can you imagine?) I work in a male dominated field!!! I ride a motorcycle!!
No offense to the guys. I'm not a man hater...I can be a girly girl........I just couldn't stand the elders sexist attitudes on what a woman was supposed to do!!!!!!!!
Must be why none of them(except for the reeking one) wanted to marry me! Too independent!!!!

you know how there are somethings that give you so much pleasure or joy?
it doesn't have to be anything amazing or huge, but for some reason it makes you so happy for those few moments.
some of mine are drinking coffee in the morning with my best friend at work, and the smell of an open fire (it reminds me of being a young child at my grandparents' house).
Tiggers are wunnerful....
and Simbas and Nemos and Dorys and Flippers and Benjis and Rajas and all the rest!!!
And you know something....... it seems that a God that created all this beauty and infinite variety of plants, animals, stars etc would not focus on ONE group of people.........I take comfort in that...
