i sure could use some group therapy, but would settle for drinking a beer over some good conversation.
are there any former, maybe not formers but df's, or just plain doubting jw's who would like to meet some time.
anywhere in houston works for me.. .
Thanks Mysterious.

me and the hubby were talking about back in the day when we had to give public talks.
i'm a natural chatterbox and not very shy.
my hubby is just the opposite.
I never had a problem giving talks, I really loved getting up there, wearing my best suit, and looking at people straight in the eye. I used to like to use props or drawing which pertained to the talk I was giving, which had to be pretty good since you only had what 5 minutes.

so i'm 37 and i've only been with one man, my ex-husband, in my entire life.
i just started a new relationship with a wonderful man but i'm fighting the preprogramming that comes from being a dub for 35 years.
how have other people overcome the inhibitions and issues that come from the ridiculously rigid sexual mindset of the wtbs?
When I left the ORG, I screwed everything in sight. I found out I was bisexual, and then some. I never looked back, but I do admit, all the ORG's teachings and attitudes toward sex probably skewed my way of thinking, and if I had been educated just a little more, and taught to develop a more healthy sexual attitude, I could have probably avoided some major heartaches.
But oh well, live and learn.

yesterday, my aunt was talking to one of my siblings about how things have been changing in our [ex] congregation for the 'better'.. she mentioned how a new circuit overseer has come in and is shaking things up.
the co appointed a ministerial servant (someone, the po & secretary didn't like and i know would never have voluntarily suggested appointment) and some of the 'brothers' that have had no 'responsibility' ever are being given #4 talks.
she also mentioned that the book study will be cancelled and the meetings are being shortened.. a ministerial servant who had a vendetta against some of the elders wants me to talk to a co and basically tell him i left the congregation [and the religion] because of the incompetence of the elders.. i'm not talking to the co and i'm not 'blaming' anyone.
Maybe.
there are a great many puzzlements in regard to the meek and servile compliance of witnesses but one area has long interested me.
specifically, why don't more witness parents get angry at the do-nothing watchtower society?
i can recall one somewhat deranged elder's wife who got away with demanding to speak to the assembled body of elders because she was worried that 'all of of our kids are falling out of the truth'.
Of all the things that angered me about being JW was the treatment of young people, especially teenagers. This is one of the hardest times of your life, when you are finding yourself, and trying to deal with all type of new emotions, and you are in a non-mainstream religion that is constantly telling you that everything you feel and do is so wrong. When I was attending, I remember there were about 20 or so teenagers in my congregation. Let me tell you what happened to the majority of them: Jerry - married a non believer, not attending. Mario - got mixed up in drugs, may be in prison. Martin - married a non believer, not sure. Luli - 6 kids, in and out of marriages, not attending. Manoa - gay and living in Florida. Abbey - happy and living in Florida, not attending. Rita - married a non believer, not attending. David - gay and living in Texas. Gilbert - prison. Maggie - married a non believer, attending meeting, active JW. Martha - 4 kids, in and out of marriages, not attending. Gabriel - married a non believer, not attending. Ruth - working a a stripper, not attending. Debora - 3 kids, in and out of relationships, not attending. George - in and out of prison. Shandell - in and out of prison. Fred - not attending. Gonzo - not attending. Margaret - not attending. Sylvia - DF, not sure. I think about all these people from time to time and I think about maybe how different their lives could have turned out if they had been given some type of guidance, rather than being condemned for being young and inexperienced. I mean there was no youth ministry or pastor to give real life guidance to any of us. It was just, you are sinning for thinking about girls or questioning your sexuality. No guidance what so ever. No wonder so many of us fell by the wayside. DJ_Q

i am not a jw, but know several, and i am curious as to why adults get involved with the jws.
any one have an answer from personal experience?
I am so sorry for you and your daughter. My brother and I went through a lot of the same things. We were young and we did some stupid things, but nothing major. It always seemed like we were getting counseled for playing sports, or because someone had seen us drop off one of our friends at their house. There never seemed to be any positives, just negatives.
....waking up to the real truth about the truth?......when it first really hit me like a shovel in the face.....i actually said to the co i would have to leave my wife and son (not hers)) and he is now 20 (not the co..my son), and i said it because i knew i would now never measure up to the "spiritual head" model.
cause i knew it was all bs...but have not really ran away yet....at least not for more than a week at a time.........doing better actually.......but did you want to at least move or something?
?...........oompa
The problem is I am not anywhere in the organization. I haven't been to a meeting in over 13 years. I havent read a watchtower or awake in who knows how long, the only book I still have is my bible.
I still feel guilty going to any other church so I just dont go. I know I should just let it go, but I cant.
Maybe, if Jehovah really truly loves us all, and he really is a good as they say he is, he will forgive my weakness.

for me it was that god is killing billions of people just to prove a point.
what about you?
Yeah, this one really hurt the most. I dont have time right now but have I got a story to tell about what happened to 20 teenagers in my congregation.
Expecting people so young to follow rules and doctrine, that they dont understand because life hasnt had time to teach them anything yet and punishing them so harshly for faltering, ooh, still hurt to think about it.

I never wanted to run away. I just never felt I was good enough to be a part of the organization. To this day it still hurts just to pass by a Kingdom Hall, or to see the people out preaching.
Maybe it was the truth, maybe it wasn't. Like many relegions, being a JW appealed to my spiritual side. I know I did not agree with everything they taught, and I know I paid the price. But when I was in, I was happy, even if it was for a short time.
I know I dont have it in me to be a true JW. Like being a Catholic priest or a minister for a church you either have the calling or you dont. My flesh was weak, and I always, without hesitation, well maybe a little hesitation, gave in to temptation. Whether it was drinking, sex, or wanting to go to college. I could never keep my self straight enough to advance in the church.
I know there are people here that are bitter or sad over being JW, and I do understand their pain. But what is conviction, I always thought it was being able to stand up for what you thought was right, whether it was or not. I did not agree with everything I was taught, but I took it on faith, just like any other relegion, you have to take some beliefs on faith alone.
Was the organization perfect, maybe, but I know for sure some of the people running it were not. In the end it was my inability to conform, and give in to temptation that did me in.
If I could go back and do things over would I do anything differently? Probably, but I would still not make it.
Anyway, thanks for listening, I had been wanting to get this off my chest for a long time now.
