  It only has a purpose because you have given it one.
  
  A spirit creature would not need luggage to travel so it would have no purpose ( ex.does God need luggage when he travels? no. so it is purposeless). The quote doesn't say that an item can't exist without intelligence, just that you can't have purpose without intelligence. It takes intelligence to find a purpose (think two sticks rubbed together to make fire, think duct tape etc.)

  Inanimate objects cannot have a purpose they can only be assigned one by a thinking being.

  Seeker: I like your train of thought it is important to take the time to find exceptions to the definitive instead of blindly accepting what we are told (well I learned something from the whole JW deal.)
  So even though I disagree with your premise I will also try to work on finding the exception.

  Why do us men do all the bad stuff?

  it seams to me that through out history men have allways commited the worst crimes against humanity.. from despot rulers to serial killers and petty crime , men do the most.. yet to me it seams that on a personnal level men get on better with each other than women.. women are often very senseitive and take offence much more easily.. they can be very bitchy and manipulative.. often men will have an aurgument with a friend and the next day all will be forgotten , while a women can take years to forgive.. so what is it about mens psychology that makes them commit worse crimes than women?.

  or it there just the fact that they are physicaly stronger?.

  i wonder that if in the future , women are in positions of power more that they will act worse than men have, or if they will show more compassion for others?

  Boy are you way off the mark. You say that you didn't intend to offend but this is a tough one to swallow. Whether the baby was created irresponsibly or not it was both a woman and a man that were involved. For a parent to raise and love a child even when the other parent refuses to acknowledge responsibility is an act of true love and caring.

  I don't think that it is strength alone that makes the difference in men and womens ability to bad. At least not where it is legal to purchase and own guns, this equalizes power between men and women. Yet you very rarely read of woment commiting violent crimes or using weapons with a premeditation to harm (armed robbery, highschool shootings,kidnapping, first degree murder),I beleive it must be in our wiring and of course couple that with society's expectations of male and female roles and you can see that their is a difference.

  I am curious whether the fact that a woman has given birth to a child increases her respect for life. I know that I was a totally changed person after my daughter was born, yet even before I was not predisposed with an intent to harm others. Does anybody know if women who do commit serious crimes are more or less likely to have had children? Have their been studies on this?

  Is there a burning hell???

  i'm just curious what everyone's view of hell is.

  i know that most of you were at one time jws and i was wondering if you still held to the no-hell doctrine or if you had found scriptural reasons to believe otherwise.

  if the latter applies, would you be so kind as to share the scriptures that have enlightened you?.

  Anewperson I have been a Seventh Day Adventist and a Jehovahs Witness but what is WWCG? Is their one I missed?

  Seeker thank you for your thought provoking contribution, I agree with you that if that is the case I will also join the suffering with you.

  Anewperson Thank You for posting this topic, I have often thought about trying to find a place to worship with others I even went to a home bible study once but it seems that everyone beleives in hell that way and I simply cannot beleive that it is meant to be literal. It is tearing me in some ways it might even be easier to beleive in it but it just does not go along with what I know of God, after all eternal torment for even 90 years of evil living cannot be justice and isn't that what God is? I am trying to keep an open mind about this balancing out the fact that I have had some pretty heavy indoctrination that says that hell is just eternal destruction (gee guys isn't that bad enough). But I still don't know I enjoy reading all your posts on the subject Thanks

  perhaps a doctor or a nurse said them before administering a recommended treatment.

  likely, you did not refuse to submit to the treatment simply to avoid the anticipated pain.

  I too remember being excessively harsh with my oldest daughter. I am ashamed to say that I even began spanking her at 6 months. I would not allow her to play with anything not even have a book until she was old enough to read, because then it would be a play thing ( this is how it was explained to me). I even pioneered when she was two, dragging her all over town with me. Sick. Sick. Sick. I am feel terrible about it now but the pressure put on parents was extreme. I thought I was doing the right thing and articles such as this only give more ammo to the rigid and unloving ones who then wave it in your face and pressure you to conform to this abuse. After I became pregnant with my 2nd child I became more self confident and decided that I would not punish my children or treat them harshly for anyones approval. Happily I left soon after that so my now 4 year old has known none of that harshness and is every bit as well mannered and loving as her 9 year old sister. After leave the org I got my associates degree in Child Development this convinced me that what I had done was abusive as it is developmentally impossible and actually harmful to force children to sit still for hours on end (remember the assemblies:cringe). Jehovah God is our creator and well aware of the developmental stages of human beings while discipline is neccesary for us at all stages harsh punishment and unrealistic expectations are not what our loving father expects from us. I will never again bow to pressure from anyone (friend, foe or family) to dictate how or why I discipline my children.

  Wow Dave what a post that was inspirational.

  YoYo If you think it's o.k. to have your own ideas and find out this info for yourself, perhaps beleiving you are strong enough to handle it then that is foolishly prideful and the bible tells us that "Pride is before a fall". I am not condemning you I wish you the best, I hope you find what you are looking for, the JW religion is a mind F*** and I am not surprised that you are doing these ironic things.

  I guess something we can all benefit from is asking ourselves (throughout the day everyday) what our motives are behind the things we do. The way we treat our neigbor, the books we read, the job we go to, the threads we post, if we can keep our motives pure and honest it will be a better world right now, For everyone we come in contact with. And we will have peace of mind without having to pry into others personal lives.

  the producers saw a baltimore sun article me and my friends were in nd they want us to film a promo for the sequel to 'that 70's show' which is called 'that 80's show' .

  it got me to wondering where most people that post here were at...what stage in their jw/ex jw process...when they started reading and/or posting here.

  also curious, when you did come here what was your main focus?

  I lurked for about 9 months before ever posting here. I found this site by searching for info on xjw's on a search engine. Finding this site has made such a difference to me. Just to have someone who understands and has been there is so wonderful. I have also learned about many unscriptural teachings on this board and now feel that I have a strong footing on the truth about the troof. thanks to Simon and all of you, like I said you really do make a difference in peoples lives. You have saved me perhaps thousands in therapy bills and it's been so much fun. If this site is ever gone I know that I will cry more tears than I have ever shed leaving the org. I feel that you are my friends through thick and thin the good the bad and the ugly
