i assume that there are active jws that visit here.. any idea on the percent that the board has?
does it just seem to be a very few or is it a substantial number?.

I know it's hard to watch hypocrisy, but those still active are in a tough spot.
Everybody draws the line in different places. For 13 years I attended every single meeting with my family. I seldom commented. I personally couldn't do the door-to-door thing, but I sang up a storm during each song! I was aware how hypocritical it was to sing those crap lyrics, but it didn't bother me enough to lead me to stop and it helped to dissuade others from labeling me as an unbeliever.
I was able to weather it out and my oldest child is now out! Yay! I'm still underground till my youngest is old enough. -

shock breakthrough with my wife

We used snow cancellations as practice drills. Also we reviewed hiding areas in the host home to know where to put literature.
Yes Rebel8, I remember! In the late 60s, early 70s they told me to memorize where everyone in my book study lived. That I was to go to the book study house, etc.
And we buried large tins of Watchtowers and other lit in our back yard. LOL, we've sold the house- wonder what the new owners will think when they start rototilling! ;)

I don't know... I think you're off base with your estimate. Mine would be more like 3% max! If you consider quality- actually reading and trying to understand, 'meditating' as they call it- I'd drop it to 1%. Everyone I knew who did the bible reading read it through really fast, and underlined the answers without any 'study' at all.
Course I can't blame them. We used to have group WT preps at our house that were really fun- with young ppl in the hall- because we enjoyed research and deeply discussing how it applied. But it took 3 or 4 hours to get through the WT!!
Again, they try to keep you so busy 'studying' that you don't have time to really study. -

The scales on my eyes fell off in 1987, before I was really on the internet. But I thought I was the only underground dub in the whole organization!! It really would have helped me adapt if I had been part of a community. I felt so incredibly, unbelievably alone.

I think the YouTube vids will have a huge impact. I've noticed the 'bros' are posting their own vids there (of assemblies and such), and it will be too tempting not to click on at least one 'Related Video' on the side bar.

one main part of the announcements was to read part of the km that had to do with the upcoming two day circuit assembly (ours is next month ... even though we just had the district convention last month ... geez).
the km article talked about how the circuit assembly would warn us against satan's new tools--the internet, education, and entertainment.

OH MY GOD!!! Are you saying that my preteen daughter will be denied an equal education when she goes to High School?! I can't believe that. You say you're from the MidEast but I'm guessing that's a ruse ;-) and you live more like in the MidWest where this may be true. I'm sure hoping so.
I'd like you to know that there are many, many patriotic people here who love their country and are proud to be Americans, and we fight for the Separation of Church and State as our forefathers set forth in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I'm sick of extremists trying to hijack my country. Thomas Jefferson would be appalled.
Religion needs to be taught ONLY at home until the child is older, then a comparative religion class with all the different creation myths is appropriate.
I have two questions:
1) If the Bible didn't tell the Genesis story, would Creationism ever be taught? Ever?! If you can answer that truthfully, you've got to agree that this is a religiously-based argument and not based on scientific evidence.
2) When 'alternatives' are taught side-by-side with evolution, are the Hindu and Native American creation myths given equal billing to Biblical stories? Ditto above. -

Waiting for my judicial meeting - or not

anyway, saturday came and went and tuesday came and went and no judicial meeting with me.
the elders just sort of avoided me and didn't let me comment at the wt.

Yeah they really do spy. I was assigned to study with this newly-reinstated sister and she told me she knew her worldly husband was cheating, so she and my friend put on wigs and followed him in a car till they saw him meeting the woman in a motel. She got her divorce.
Funny(?) thing is, 3 years later she got a taste of her own medicine. She started fooling around with my brother-in-law, and the elders had my husband and a friend tail them (YES, I still have the mustache and wig he used!!). They found them neckin' in a parked car up in the mountains. They said they were praying.
Now she's my sister-in-law.
