Cult mentality is applying a spurious label to a source:
* Satan's world
* False religion
and then proceeding to discard all arguments from that source, based on the label. Kinda like you have done.
Hassan is indeed a recognized authority on cults. He is not infallible. Therefore, all his arguments are, and must continue to be, scrutinized for validity. This is the case with all rational, scientific endeavors. Name calling doesn't cut it.
You have been invited to watch the video, dispute the data and/or conclusions, and present your findings to this discussion board. I await your robust critique.

Immigration: The Truth about the LIe - CRIME
by Wonderment inimmigration: the truth about the lie: crimecrime: do immigrants increase rates of violence?
there has been a lot of talk about how immigrants pose a threat to the safety of this country by increasing crime rates.
is there any truth to this, or is it "fake news.

“The Truth About Crime,” brought to you by none other than Stefan Molyneux of “Freedomain Radio.” If you’re a regular listener of this guy, then you should check out what Steve Hassan has to say about him:
Not an argument.
Sorry, couldn't resist!

Life seemed so simple when we ...
by eyeuse2badub inis it me or do you share my thoughts about life seeming so simple when were--------------kids and when we were----------------die-hard jw’s?.
as a kid we trusted our parents explicitly.
their word was truth and we believed everything they said.

Yes, thinking for yourself is a burden (of-sorts).
Because you have to own and live with the outcomes of your decisions.
This "burden" is one I'm willing to bear. In the ORG you can see learned dysfunction from being spoon-fed conclusions to every one of life's complicated questions.
The inability (unwillingness?) to adjust to new information carries over into other areas of life. Suffering results."If something can’t go on forever, it won’t"
As the ORG struggles forward, JWs will have to get nuttier to stay in it. They are up against entropy (undefeated in the history of the universe).
I do share some of your sentimentality concerning our very black/white, cut and dried paradigms of childhood, but I think as time goes on, it will be harder and harder to be a JW.Their lives may be simpler, but more miserable.

'only serves to criminalize those immigrants.'
Not true. Also serves to define a country as an actual working political entity, with actual rules and laws about who may and may not be there.

JWs made me hate school
by StephaneLaliberte inyesterday, i had an epiphany.
i realized that the jw religion made my experience in school awful and i hated school because of this.. yesterday, my kids had an activity where the whole school was out at the park, playing baseball, soccer, other pic-nic games and even swimming pools.
during the day, i had conversations with the teachers and saw the kids out, playing having fun.

Awesome OP. I had the same experiences growing up. All I wanted to do was the one things my duped parents would never allow...
I wanted to fit in and be normal
Such a trifling matter, and perhaps it is only so valuable because it had been denied.
Sometimes I consider the notion that my kids will simple never know how awful my JW childhood was...because to truly know is to live it, and have it as your own. I am content to have them be happy and NOT EVER KNOW.
So happy that your kids and mine will never have to suffer the idiotic delusions that we did. In this way, we suffocate this miserable cult one family at a time.
Also, let's be frank about this. When you're taught that everyone at school is bird food, and that your time there is a necessary evil, not to be embraced, but to be fleed from ASAP, then...perhaps an otherwise smart kid is DIS-incentivized from really trying; pouring effort into it; maximizing the potential benefits from being there.... -

'Unless they reform. Things will only get worse. They are well aware of the teachings and policies that are damaging the organisation. They need to make the needed changes and do this quickly before they sink deeper into the myre!'
Good comment! Since this is the case, I suspect that how they handle this paradigm will inform us as to what they truly think about themselves.
If they hold fast to the damaging teaching and policies, I think it suggests they they are victims of their own delusions that they peddle to others. I think it means that they really believe they are correct in these matters and must not waver because YHVH is going to bail them out in return for their loyalty.
If they do blink and change course, it's a tacit admission that YHVH may not, in fact, come to their rescue, and they need to do what they must, to ensure the viability of the ORG. In this case, perhaps the more-practical minded and less-fanatical would be calling the shots. But this could be a slippery slope, and if some policies and teachings can be altered, why not some others? In this way, the WT ORG maintains its survivabiliy by morphing into another thing altogether - slightly weirder mainstream American Protestantism.
Either way, we know (and I suspect they know, too) that the center cannot hold, and they cannot persist being how, and what, they are. -

I'm sure at WT corporate meetings the shit is hitting the fan. I see the GB removed from office as not fit maybe even a removal of golden parachute benefits and dismissal from office and residence to save the corporation from total bankruptcy.

I'm not sure what the talk was trying to accomplish.
What the ORG calls a 'love of money' and 'materialism', other normal people call 'concern over basic needs and amenities', and 'modest financial protection for their family'.
This has been expressed before, but I can't get over the irony of building a religion dependent on folks who have the least to give.
