i know there is a huge college/university lobby here in the us that lives off of students paying, in some cases, enormous amounts of money just to attend.. putting politics aside, if that is possible, (and i am not a bernie sanders guy by any means), but how can we pay for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary school, junior high, high school, and then throw a huge debt to someone who wants to continue learning?
can't the us (public and state universities) afford four more years for young people to get on a career path without having to, in some cases, take out a mortgage/loan more than the cost of some homes?
then, (and nothing against immigrants, i am married to one), but then the us has to "import" students from other countries to fill the needs that we should be supplying here.
Is part of the problem the social prestige connected with having a fancy university degree? Does that drive up the cost? Do universities charge what the market will bear?

A Honda Civic was a necessarily implement for every 18 year-old, who set out to make their way thru the world.
A Honda Civic was just...so damn important...that nobody should have to go without one, so the government was obliged to absorb the cost, so everyone could have one...
You think perhaps Honda would find a way to make their list price climb a little over the ~27k, where it sits now?

The power disparity between the sovereign States was such that the Electoral College was a necessary compromise to get the small/weaker states to sign the Constitution.
Then, as now, folks were worried about 2 or 3 States basically deciding and carrying the entire election. The whole point was to mitigate that power gap between large and small.
Removal of the Electoral College would basically renege on the terms in which the Constitution was signed. I wouldn't blame smaller/weaker States for balking (and I live in one of the biggies!).
It's a voluntary association of sovereign States - it's not the mafia!
bit of background: a couple of years ago i was reproved after i slept with a brother that i was in love with but we were not married.

Seems reasonable that the ORG would want/need cash flow from the properties, however can't go whole hog for the reasons well articulated here...
No doubt, the ORG has plotted out a curve whereby they balance the most cash flow with whatever level of inconvenience and KH sparsity they feel they can inflict on the R&F.

saw the movie yesterday and, wow - it was good.. it's a follow-up to the shinning, an iconic movie, and it just has the same feel to it not least because some of it ends up set back at the same hotel and has the same kind of camera angles and scenes plus the haunting soundtrack.
it actually starts with the mom and the kid living after they survived the experience in the original movie.. it wasn't what i was expecting, i thought it was going to just be a cash-in, but it wasn't - not just more of the same, instead it actually built in the original and expanded on what 'the shinning' was.. if you like suspenseful movies but not just a gore-fest, i give it a thumbs up..
I thought the book was excellent. Glad to see the film a solid version of the story. It was well casted and directed. I liked the use of certain scenes and music to connect to the original Shining, while still telling a new story.
In a perfect universe, it would've been a 10-part Netflix series. I am becoming increasingly aware of the limits of 2.5 to 3 hour films in telling complex stories. Oh well, Doctor Sleep for the win.
a jp video came up on my youtube feed last week - he was on a panel in front of a huge audience and some poor disturbed guy ran on stage and started crying and wailing to peterson that he needed his help.
it was agonising to watch.. what was even more disturbing was the comments section.
i do not exaggerate when i say that dozens of people were extolling peterson's wisdom as if jesus had come again.
I was briefly interested in his 'self-authorship' idea. I thought it might help me work thru some lingering issues.
I tabled the idea, since I became extremely busy at work & home, and couldn't commit to (yet another) matter.
Once my obligations thin out, maybe I'll revisit the idea...

y'know, when you hear a song that profoundly effects you in some difficult-to-describe way and the hairs on your arm stand on end even though the room temperature's comfortably warm.. so, which songs give you goosebumps?.
