My understanding is that it requires 2/3 vote of the GB to change "doctrine". With the 8 GB members, that means it takes 6 to make any kind of change. Adding a couple more to the mix may make it possible to push through some changes that are being resisted. You can be sure the Alpha GB guys know how the 2 add-ons will think (vote) on everything.

OK - but now consider this:

If the 2 'new guys' are brought on board to get the numbers to change doctrine, does it imply that the current group is at an impasse?

I wonder WHO wants to change WHAT....and WHY?

No doubt they will have to do some maneuvering. It's been long-predicted that they'll necessarily get more 'CULTY' as they try to maintain control of things.

I'm just interested in what they're going to try to do next. If I know what my relatives are being told, it can help to get out in front of things...

i wonder how many are like me staying pimo for the great association and gathering etc.

also find it very interesting having a front row seat watching the collapse of borg.. im not wasting any more time or money on anything i don’t want to do like preaching and mostly just go on zoom .

there is nothing i want to do that would be considered disfellowshiping sin, i’m married and want to live by bible principles but i have serious doubts that the gb were chosen by god and are his one and only spokesmen on earth.

I applaud the OP for finding a zone of comfort whilst he/she(?) tries to live out their lives with a continuing degree of (relative) normalcy.

How many times has a person 'woken up' in the middle of their lives in this CULT, and tried to 'wake up' their friends & relatives only to destroy their situation? You think they're going to listen to you? You think that they're ready to overhaul their lives all at once?

If the OP is able to find that precious (sometimes elusive) equilibrium and navigate forward - this is a good thing. We all can't do it, but for those who can/could: hats-off to you. A person can't attend to their family responsibilities as well once the relationships are destroyed by the CULT.

After my JW upbringing and all the scripture twisting nonsense I had to put with, I have no patience for this hack journalism.

Some folks who have the same upbringing, have learned to use such to their benefit, like: detecting when the mob around them is tripping on BS narratives doing their best to dodge scrutiny.

Never thought I would see this in my family circle

so, my 17 year old niece reveals to me that for the past few years, her father (my sister's husband) has been physically and verbally abusive to her.enough so that it finally came to a breaking point, and she reported it to the police.

she told me that she had wished she had told me sooner, but she was trying to wait til she was 18 so that she could leave.i knew that she and her parents had been locking horns for the past couple of years, but i chalked it up to teen puberty and general growing pains.

but on their last, most recent visit, i could tell that something was really eating at her.apparently, what set off this latest incident was that he discovered that she had been seeing/involved with a non-witness boy about her age, and got so violent with her that it left marks.ironically, she went and got help from her boyfriend's father, a paramedic, who documented the injuries and encouraged her to report it.so, yeah, he spent a night in jail.she is now staying at the parents of her boyfriend, while still trying to have some aspects of her old life (work, school, etc.

It sounds like you're riding that fine line with skill and precision. You'll need to continue to do so.

I'd let things unfold & continue to gather information. Continue to be available, not only to your niece, but also to your sister, who may at some point falter under the building pressure of the situation and open up to you.

If that happens, it would be preferable to have her speak to you as if you knew nothing.

If folks are going to lie, let them conjure up a doozie. The truth will be all the more effective when it comes out.

Ive seen people do both.
But the sooner you face it the sooner you start to heal and figure out who you are and where you're going.

This is so very well-put. I know some folks feel they must orchestrate a fade, but I knew that such would be an IMPOSSIBLE task for me, given my particulars...

Time waits for none of us, and once you know that you don't believe what the WT wants you to, the only thing left to do

is get on with the business of living your best, most honest, life.

i know this subject has been talked about lots over the years, just thought i would share a recent finding from canada.. while visiting with a group of friends, an elder (don’t recall how the subject came up) mentioned the local body had voted to allow brothers with beards be allowed to give talks from the platform.

(it was a very close vote).

the direction given was for each congregation to decide for themselves if that is now acceptable.. so some congregations will be for, and for many it will not.. it’ll probably be a long time before we see any pictures on the watchtower where they’re allowing this though..

Prediction of how Watchtower going to be in 5 Years.

i can see it that watchtower will become an online/tv based group with just con-vention hall$.. field service would be letter writing and phone preaching, door to door is done.. watchtower will have pay to view programs and still ask for donations after all that.. zoom meetings are here to stay.

kingdumb halls will be sold off except for con-vention venues, or need for new ones$.. df'ing will continue.

the craziness will continue.

Nothing will change. All doctrines are made lite version now, and jw's are in for the social structure.

I think this is largely true, but then it creates this irony whereby fervent adherence and confirmation of every trivial bit of doctrine is necessary and enforced for membership approval...

but nobody really knows what it all is...

There seems to have been created: an incongruity, concerning the import of actual (current-Light) doctrine: 'Believe it! Even when we're not sure what IT is!'

I dunno, maybe it's all just my wishful thinking. I don't want to be self-deceptive, but this DIS-junction would seem to be a liability, at some not-too-distant point.

'Rona represented perhaps the first time in decades (if not ever) that being a JW had a more-mainstream/manageable burden...

Weary JWs are not likely to quickly forget that relief.

I expect that we will hear reports/anecdotes about congregation attendance plateauing at a fraction of previous numbers. More KH selloffs are inevitable. Even a messy war can't/won't inspire the fear they've enjoyed in the past.

The malaise is quite palpable. This will have to be a controlled descent.

You're not wrong about this. But can you point to an 'organization' that IS loving? I can't. At the end of the day, it all just comes down to people, and the choices they make about who they will listen to, and what they will do.

We talk about the WT like it's our arch-enemy for the hurt we've experienced at its direction...but people (our 'friends'/relatives) have chosen to LISTEN and OBEY.

The WT can't throw you in jail or garnish your wages. All they can really do is level DISAPPROVAL at you and call you a 'bad person'. It's our (supposed) friends and relatives that have chosen the WTs approval as more important than us.

That's the bottom line. Hold individual JWs accountable for their actions. Each one makes a choice. Everyone in the cult CHOOSES to be in the cult, just as much as we have CHOSEN not to be.

The WT is a great and evil scam, no doubt. But our real battle about the shunning policy is with the JWs that believe what the WT says and obey it, even at our expense. Without belief they they 'speak for God' and adherence to their utterances, who would even care what stupid crap the Tower has to say about anything?

We must acknowledge they worst of the situation before us. The shunning works only because those who shun value the WTs approval over their relationships. And this is why most JWs (IMO) are miserable, sick, and lost. Because an Organization cannot love, no matter how much you bow & scrape...so ultimately, they HAVE no real relationships.
