True story. It still happens today. Just want you to realize that there's lots of nutty religions out there. And if you get right down to it...JWs are based on the same prophets and stories the Jews have. Oh, yeah, Jws give a token nod to the NT, but for the most part it seems to be based on the old warmonger bloody god Yvey.
i figure a lot of people have had their heads stuck in the cloud with images of their paradise---big homes, fancy cars, and all the jewelry left behind by those rich ole wicked people..... but what about the other side of all this?

In Genesis 18, Abraham hosts three visitors who are identified as two angels and the Lord ("Jehovah" in the NWT). Abraham spoke with Jehovah, ate with Him, and even bargained with Him. If the argument above is true, then Abraham should have been dead also – or Jehovah is not God. In Genesis 32, Jacob not only saw God's face, but he wrestled with Him. Jacob identifies it as such by naming the place Peniel which means "The Face of God" and he says "I have seen God face to face, and my life has been preserved."
Well now, this is interesting. I have always heard it said that "No one can look on the face of god and live" and now here "he" is chatting away and having lunch with Abraham???
Also have heard it said that the closest anyone has ever come to "seeing" god was Moses...and even at that Moses had to turn his back, (I think) ?
Now, in my bible it says Jacob wrestled with the angel. So could there be confusion here as to whether god looks like an angel...or do the angels look like god? And how could you really be sure who is who? And if Satan's purpose was to usurp God...could he be an impersonator?

at this time jesus threw satan and his demons out of heaven and down to earth, which is why, according to witnesses, the world has been getting progressively worse since 1914.
how do they rationalize this when the scripture says, according to jesus' spoken word, that satan was cast out before jesus came to earth?.

Treating the absurdity of religions with humor instead of debate may get the point across much better.
But....once people figure out they have been duped by religion....what will they REPLACE it with?

i talked to a jw i know and got an unexpected reaction.. i mentioned some of the "conspiracy theory" stuff i have heard...about one taken, one left behind ...and what i have heard about people will be picked up in the middle of the night and taken away to "places".
this jw took it right in stride and said "yes, that's the way it was done when the nazi's started.
many jws were killed then...blah blah".
Well, I did try to post this as another topic, but BA is acting out because I suppose he thinks his opinion should be the final answer. So I am going to go ahead and post it here.
Martyrdom or Divine Protection?
If we are supposed to be "on the watch" what should we do when we see the wave coming? Should we just stand still? Should we believe in divine protection? Should we just shrug march into martyrdom? What's the purpose of being "on the watch" if you are to take no action?
Maybe I have listened to too many conspiracy theories. I guess that could be as bad as reading WT magazines. I get freaked out about some stuff, too.
In Luke 12, the verses seem to be warning us of how these things will take place. Two at the mill, one will be taken...in other words, it's sudden. You could be picked up at your job. Two in bed, one will be taken..... However it happens, these verses tell us that it will be a "surprise". Out of the blue. Your name is on someone's list.
Yet we are also warned that this day should NOT be like a thief in the night to us because we should have an idea when it is about to happen. Will it be a "clear call" (but not everyone hears or heeds?) will it just be a tugging intuitive feeling?
A lot of christians say oh, that refers to what happened in 70 AD. But that cannot be so because this conversation in Luke and Matthew are specifically discussing the "end of the world"...not the end of some little established town.
Assuming this is for our day and time, who would be most likely to be "picked up and taken"? Would it be the ones who know the truth about whats going on? Or would it be the ones that can more easily be controlled?

This martyr or divine protection is a perplexing issue to me.
I am not a ex JW but I am just as "kooky" in my own way, I suppose. I have been exposed to---maybe too much---conspiracy stuff for many years. And it has probably influenced me as much as WT has influenced you in some respects. Anxiety, fear, paranoia....just a healthy dose (lol) I am not insane. Add to that, I do read scripture a lot and I see both truth and fiction there. Got to put on the boots sometimes. But then, I think there are meanings behind a lot of the absurdities.
I am starting another thread to discuss this so we don't stray too far off topic here.
