Question for Atheists.. Did you gain a Greater Sense of Morality and Happiness?

i've heard some view points that state, atheists are generally more moral & caring for fellow humans, than are theists.. i'd like to hear some personal stories of life changes and quality of life after you became atheist.

i have a simple theory that may explain this.. i'll explain my theory if you'd like, after a few responses, as i really am interested in the personal changes that you experienced.. thank you very much, and i look forward to your stories..

Your thoughts on demons, ghosts and spirits

as a jw were taught all about demons but i never had an incident.

my wife believes wholeheartedly says her family including her has had problems with them.

i have met people that even non religious people that say they have experienced a ghost or a spirit.

The problems Bible believers have with Atheists is the burden of proof is on the Believer and we just do not have enough proof.

i recently posted a post telling this board my athesit coworker stumped me with questions about the validity of the ark story and i just cannot stop talking to her.

i love hearing her side and point of view which in the past i would have dismissed as "satanic" thinking.

she has some very good questions and i am having a hard time answering them.

People have opinions and beliefs, but these opinions and beliefs could be based in bad information. There is no logic behind them, no foundation, no evidence on which to base them.

Once that "opinion" or "belief" are made public, those "opinion" and "beliefs most withstand criticism, analysis and questioning. Should be tested, challenge and justified. And that's not an opinion or a belief.

You have to be ready to accept that without evidence to support that opinion or belief, you might be wrong and in need of correction.

I'm not sure when people began to believe that any opinion or belief was above reproach, or that the idea that someone's opinions or beliefs could be made fun of is anathema.

Show some evidence to chance my opinion.

I don't want to be an A-hole. A simple answer will be very complicated, but again the short answer should be yes.

Morals are not a subjective concept, morality is tangible and you can witness its evolution through history.

Morality means manners, character, proper behavior. Morality has to do with how you act toward others. In societies they have always be present to some extents. You can, of course, act in a way that has no effect on anyone else, and in this case morality isn’t involved. But given the choice between acting in a way that increases someone else’s moral good or not, it is more moral to do so than not.

We need an evolutionary understanding of where a strong sense of right and wrong comes from as an instinct, and a neurobiological account of how our brains function or not when they engage in ethical reasoning.

Morality involves conscious choice, and the choice to act in a manner that increases someone else’s moral good, then, is a moral act, and its opposite is an immoral act.

It's a little more complicated, but the short answer is yes.

Morality is doing what is right no matter what you are told to do. Religion is doing what you are told to do no matter what is right.

Remember that morals are a socio-cultural evolution that changes in time. Moralities are sets of self-perpetuating and ideologically-driven behaviors.

Sadly, I don't have any particular experience to share.

Happiness are these bits and pieces of moments you have or share. No one is happy all the time.

Keep researching. I am glad you bring this example. Deer belong to a group of animals called ruminants, which have a special organ called a rumen for digesting tough plants. Yet given the opportunity, herbivores will eat meat. As a matter of fact most herbivores are "opportunistic carnivores". Herbivores don't eat grass all the time because they like it. They have evolved lacking the tools to be hunters (read fangs, camouflage, teeth etc).

So don't feel to bad, given the opportunity, Bambi will have Kamba for lunch any day of the week.

Prying Mantis (insect) eat Hummingbirds (bird) and Millipedes (insect) eat some spices of Bats (mammal).

Survival of the fitted.

Every attempt to prove that humans have some kind of "sixth sense" shows it to be complete BS. But we have all sorts of "extra" senses that we either never use or don't notice when we do.

Religious propaganda is invaluable at teaching two timeless lessons: Your religious leaders thinks you’re stupid (and some are), and when faced with unreasonable expectations, some people will lose their mind in hilarious ways.
