In my neck of the woods eastern U.S., beards are still a no no. My old congregation ( I have been inactive for about 7 months) is 99.9 percent black and you absolutely can not have a beard or sideburns( except this really old dude who looked like he still lived in the 70's, he was allowed to get away with the sideburns). My brother use to try to grow a beard out because he would always breakout when he shaved. It is actually common for black men to break out when shaving I hear. So for such unfortunate men like my brother it can be more unsightly to shave. However, my dad always scolded him about it and made him shave. This was just a few years back. Soul patches under the bottom lip are acceptable however. The PO has one and his elder sons all sport them.

What does it mean in Revelation where it talks about God's name, Jesus' name and the name of new Jerusalem being written on the foreheads of the conquerors/144,000?
by slimboyfat inthere is revelation 14:1. and i saw, and, look!
the lamb standing upon the mount zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his father written on their foreheads.. did the author have in mind the tetragrammaton here?
revelation is rich with allusions to the ot and other jewish texts that obviously used and made reference to the divine name; in particular the law where the high priest wore a headband with the tetragrammaton inscribed must surely be the basis for this image.

One passage in particular comes to mind...John 17: 9-12 Jesus says, " I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours;
10 andall things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them.
11 "I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are.
12 "While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me";

Thinking about joining a youth group...
by Strider Arekksu inyeah... as the title states i was thinking of going into a youth group for bible studying.
since the jw organization kind of stopped that and moved it to like a 30 minute session at the school and other meeting.
they said it was for us to study personally or with our families.

It is a great Idea. I will soon be joining a focus group with college age people at my new church. We also have this contemporary program called 20/20 specifically for young adults but people of all ages come. We have a worship band (that really rocks) and are able to worship with music and singing and then one of the youth pastors gets into a really indepth study of the scripures and how they apply to the variety of issues that we face as young people specifically, but are applicable for all Christians. Afterwards we sometimes break up into smaller prayer groups and then we may have a meal afterwards to just hang out. I have to say that when I decided to check out another church I was expecting a more watered down message, however I was completely wrong. Spiritually I would have to say that I have gained a lot and have become more accountable to God and the body of Christ, plus it has been a lot of fun going there.

Is it weird for a completely straight female to be completely infatuated with a gay man? I love Adam! He is so hot to me! I love Danny as well he has a great voice and because he is Christian he will likely win since many in the AI voting block are evangelical Christian. Though I consider myself Christian I wouldn’t vote for Danny just because he is however. Plus, if I were to vote (haven’t yet this season) it would be for Adam…He does something to me.
BTW Adam was on the Broadway show Wicked before AI, and has been in other shows incuding the 10 Commandments with Val Kilmore. He has been in theatre since he was a young boy.

So sorry to hear that...that is incredibly sad. I will pray for you and your family. A few years back my uncle (who was an Elder) tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat and wrists, fortunatelly he survived. But Yes depression runs high in this religion. As one ex-elder ( still JW) told me, it especially happens as people grow older in the "truth".

Hello from new member DarthFader
by darthfader ini have been lurking in the shadows for a while now i just got my account from the fine administrators of this board.
i have really enjoyed reading the well thought out comments and critiques of the wts doctrine.. i have been around the wts since i was 5 i left for a while during high school got to live a little worldly/normal life then got sucked back in.
my wife has been raised in the truth and even though weve been inactive (for a while now), she still has thoughts about the earthly hope and seeing her grandparents some day.

Scriptural thought for the day
by Mickey mouse inmost truly i say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood,you have no life in yourselves.
he that feeds on my flesh and drinks my bloodhas everlasting life, and i shall resurrect him at the last day; for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
he that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood remains in union with me, and i in union with him - john 6:53-56. .

I just showed my parents thos scriptures and explained why I don't feel comfortable with the memorial anymore. I think not wanting to disobey Jesus is a good reason. They seemed baffled and disturbed... but they still made me go : (

I feel that I have seen the truth in many ways and he is Jesus. I am still learning and will never be as closed minded as I was as a JW but I feel that he was here, he died for us, has risen in Glory and is coming again. That is the only reason that I am celebrating Easter this year(partialy) because of the Real meaning. I am sorry you feel that way or maybe I shouldn't if you are truly happy in your beliefs or should I say disbelief . But God is very real to me still and while I do cherish my life now, which I feel had been enriched with knowing God, I can look forward to having an even better live later.
Honestly I know, many people on this board do not agree, but creation just makes sense to me. I can respect agnostics who simply say that they do not know for sure, but some atheists, NOT ALL, but some tend to be as dogmatic as JWs. How can you be so certain there is no God, really? Atheism is in effect a religion and way of life all of its own IMO. But instead God is replaced by ourselves...It all about YOU or ME. Doesn't fit with me I believe that there is bigger picture. But whatever floats your boat! Take care.
