Bethel tells us not to build a new Hall since no more Bookstudy! Takes our $147,000!!!

yes we saved and loaned and skrimped to build our own hall as we share with 6 other congs amd our area keeps growing bigger.

we even picked out the land....nice, perfect for a hall.

we had 147,000 so....then the advice comes from "above" that bethel advised us not to build since the bookstudy is cancelled our hall can take one more cong????

I don't think nixing the BS had to do with producing more KH availability; maybe that was one of the convenient excuses.

But think about it: 90% of BS were held at private homes. Many KH were being used 3 to 4 nights a week for TMS & SM, and still are being used in that same manner.

I think BS was nixed due to: (1) Decreasing attendance; (2) Liability; (3) In many countries there's just not enough men to take charge of BS groups.

The real 'bottleneck' for KH usage is on weekends, when all congs want Sunday 10 am and Saturday 6 pm, and some schedules are so bad that they even have to rotate on a yearly basis.

The No-Construction arrangement they just disclosed has to do with: (1) HUGE decrease in contributions; (2) looming property tax liabilities; (3) shrinking congs. (In our area no less than 7 cases of 'mergers' in three years due to low attendance).

As far as I know, only the original comitee has to sign on the reinstatement. I have not been involved in a reinstatement for about 4 years, but until then the original comitee was to inform WT about the resintatement via s-77. Maybe now they require letters from both comittes but I don't recall such instruction.

Vinny, all due respect, you must have been a hell of a witness: dogmatic, opinionated and condescending. And you ain't got over it, no matter what you think.

Regarding what Snakes wrote and you quoted, NO, a secretary's 'natural' reaction won't be calling Patterson. Your average secretary will not call Patterson to confirm an address or a phone as a regular procedure. They may call to get such information if they don't have it; but if they have a name, an address and a phone number, they will not double check with the offices (why would they?). Some may do it, but they are not mandated to do so, and most I know will just try to get in contact with original committee over the phone (WT warns against Mobiles and wireless, but using landlines is perfectly OK, and contrary to what was stated it does not violate WT protocol).

That being said, I agree the 'fake congregation' plot has many holes and there's a good chance it would get caught.

As for the motivation, I agree that it seems a bit pathetic so much effort to be in good standing within an organization you hate. But, on the other hand, I can relate to the pain that being shunned causes; there's no limits to what one would do for parents and children and loved ones.

So no judging here. I would not be surprised to it works, I would not be surprised to see it fail. I've seen weirder things happen.

A little advice needed on disassociating myself

yes i know i tend to post here only when i need advice or have something to rant about .

so i'm living in the uk but leaving very shortly to go back to my home country of india and try my career luck there (what with the recession and all that).

i'll be living with my mum for a while and i am soooo not looking forward to it.

1) Don't DA. Manys cons, almost no pros.

2) Don't plan based on "she'll understand". Self afliction is a big thing for JW. Remember: suffering is a sign that you are worth of being tested by god. They like suffering and crying and 'enduring penalties'. So by DA or announcing you no longer wish to be a JW, what will probably happen is she (with help from the ever present zealots) will turn it into 'suffering', being tested and a great oportunity to show how loyal to god she is.

3) Your publisher card: don't let it follow you. Once those in possesion of the card can't reach you, you are out for almost all practical purposes. Let it stay were it is!

4) Fade. Fade. Fade. As per #2 she'll find solace in enduring your being 'inactive', and will cry over it, but she'll hope you'll "come back to your senses". But ties won't be severed.

Have you heard of the Field Service Application on the I-phone for JW's?

ok, so i'm technically challenged and i don't use the i-phone, but my 19 year old son does and he just showed me this application for jw's and keeping track of their field service!

it shows maps, keeps track of time, addresses , even how to e-mail time to three different addresses!...............here's the thing: how many jw's would know about this if we have always been encouraged to not get to involved in technology.

they would dog technology but i'll bet they will use this on an assembly someday to show how jehovah has blessed them and look at the new tool he has given them and aren't we special.

Our TMS Overseer uses a program he downloaded from the internet. The thing keeps track and controls the whole process. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Also the secretary uses downloaded software to keep all the cong. records. Indeed I know fro a fact that fellow elders have frown upon this, but he sticks to his guns an even CO's have told him nothing wrong with that.

Also CO's use computers to prepare and store their reports and letters. I did that, and the official WT position was that it shouldn't be done, but we did it anyway.

This is an area where disobedience is widespread amongst JW's.
