Welcome Dearone, I strongly suggest you read Ray Franz book Crisis of Conscience and also In Search of Christian Freedom. You will find in those books a confirmation of your experiences.

Where is the Love
by dearone inhi i'm dearone i have been reading here for quite some time.
presently am an active witness in good standing with two teenage daughters.
what originally brought me her was disillusion with the lack of love i experienced in the congregations i have attended.

On a scale of 1 - 10 - How Ex-xjw are you?
by AK - Jeff ini felt like i was still a jw for a couple of years emotionally, though i had left.
then for a couple of years i felt like an xjw.
in the past year i think i have made the leap to lightspeed.

I went to a JW get-together last night
by BonaFide inso here in the jw complex, well, 90% are jw's, a couple of my friends had a bbq yesterday.
i was invited.
they had heard about some of my comments and questions regarding the organization, but i guess they forgot about that.. the friends there were from three different congregations.

Were your kids distressed after time with JWs?
by hamsterbait ini am asking this as i think testimony from first hand could help people see what danger they leave their children in with jw baby sitters etc.. my friends let their 10 yr old daughter stay the weekend with her jw cousins.. when she came back she was having nightmares, bursting into tears, clingy (as her mother might be killed at armageddon before she got home from school).
and asking explicit sexual questions, (yes they had taken her to the kingdumb hell).
i am repeating this post as it disappeared the first time.

Reniaa: always accusing others of what you yourself and your fellow Witnesses are guilty off. Remember every scripture that starts off with 'woe to you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites . . ."

So that is why an elder once lectured me for watching Dawn of the Dead.

I knew a couple who had to dismiss their Witness nanny for preaching too much to their child. Bottom line is, JWs are people with an agenda and most of them can be counted on to try to convert anyone. Of course, there are some who aren't dumb and want to keep their jobs as nannies but remember the old saying, the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.

"according to the public talk I heard. 1975 was a test, and people who have steadfast faith will not let these things stumble them."
It was a test to see if we would recognize a false prophet.

No, can't say I've had the pleasure, but I am curious as to what impression that incident left on your friends. How young was their daughter by the way?

I suggest you learn as much as you can about that religion without becoming involved in it. Realize that she will withhold a lot of information about the Witnesses from you as will the rest of the Witnesses in the congregation until you are officially baptized.
If you become a Witness and then change your mind about the most trivial of things doctrinal or otherwise you are in for a world of hurt. You will be shunned by all your Witness friends who won't even know or care to know why you were officially shunned (disfellowshipped). Just ask your girlfriend why she can't accept you for what you are instead of becoming a Witness. Is she in love with the man or with the potential convert?
