Cabasilas; they were talking out of both sides of their mouth back then. The difference between both 6,000 year time periods was known as the "Adam and Eve Gap". "( Makes me wonder how long Adam was in the garden alone before Eve was created?)"
In theory they have to calculate the age of Eve when she had her firstborn plus 9 months in order to synchronize these two 6,000 year periods. The whole thing was so complicated that there is no way the rank and file would have made it up.
What I remember clearly though from Fred Franz himself, at a special talk, was that the Adam and Eve Gap would not last decades. This means that any intelligent witness would be led to believe that it may stretch out to the early 1980's.

Humans that cause human/animal suffering...how does this happen?
by restrangled insorry, a very depressing topic, but it goes on all the time.
i watched a special last night called escaped....it was true stories about people who were kidnapped, tortured, endured and escaped.
a one on one or two scenerio.

Many people, clinically diagnosed as psychopaths, simply have a different type of brain. They have no conscience, are extremely manipulative and, here in the USA, are calculated to make up to 2% of the population. They are found in disproportionate numbers in prisons and corporations, as well as any other hierachy.
Just finished reading an interesting book, Evil Genes by Barbara Oakley, which attempts to explain why psychopaths behave the way they do and how they affect others around them and the society at large.

Foxnews today = 13 people have been sole survivors in major Plane crashes...why? Prayer?
by Witness 007 inover the last few decades 13 people have been sole survivors of some horror plane crashes....one was a co-pilot, a toddler, a nine year old who's seat was blown out into a swamp.....a lady who's dinner tray acted as a seat belt.
so.....religious folks, why did jehovah save just one?
does praying help save you?

How do we know that non-survivors were not also praying? We only know about the ones who survived because the ones who prayed and did not survive are not here to tell us anything.

It is this pathological self worship that led to to my first doubts about the JWs two years after I joined. This was back in the 70's when, I suppose, it wasn't as bad as it has gotten now. I got out a few years later and never looked back.

I too was there in 1975 and I heard directly from Fred Franz that the end was due to come within months or years-not decades-of 1975. Fred Franz represented the Organisation not a bunch of low level JWs, the so called "many", giving their own opinion.

Regarding Quoting Scriptures All the Time
by AllTimeJeff inare you really thinking for yourself when you quote scriptures all the time as your personal answer?.
i bring this up for two reasons: first and foremost, it became almost a game in jw land, a competition to see who had the better (wt approved) passage when something came up.. almost always of course, if it was "of this world", well, we know the nwt in particular is full of how bad "the world" is.
can't be part of "this world") its bad!.

Totally agree with you AllTimeJeff but I just can't help myself and bring up this scripture and apply it to all the prooftexters:
"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me." (1 Corinthians 13:11)

Do You Consider yourself an Atheist / Agnostic / or Christian? Reasons ?
by flipper inafter having been raised in the jehovah's witnesses for 44 years ( getting out 6 years ago ) i have now come to peace with my view of what i personally feel about the existence of god , or no god, or whatever is flying around up there in outer space.
i am basically agnostic for sure / perhaps leaning atheist and i've come to that decision based on the years and years of unfulfilled false promises of being in a mind control cult ( jehovah's witnesses ) claiming to represent an alleged " god " or " jehovah " saying there would be a paradise, and armageddon to destroy 99% of the earths population.
also- i enjoy helping others without thought of being rewarded for it.

I'm an atheist intellectually but a cosmic pantheist like Carl Sagan at heart.
I don't believe in god(s) for the same reason I don't believe in fairies and leprechauns but at least the universe is right in front of you instead of playing hide and seek games with your mind.
