Spike, those flip flops mentioned on the issue of rape are not just mere doctrinal silliness but a symptom of psychopathology. Have you ever stopped to ask why those flip flops, about a dozen over a thirty year period, have occured? It's because the GB wants to disfellowship women who are raped but don't scream but are embarassed by media exposes or threat of legal action thus they change their position knowing that when people are no longer paying attention they could go back to disfellowshipping them.
This is Machiavellian and amoral manipulation and you dear spike, to the extent that you shamelessly support that have blood in your hands. The blood of rape victims twice raped by the Watchtower your god who may commit suicide.

swine flu is armageddon ! anyone else heard that one ?
by looloo inmy friends mum is a dub , and she has told her grandchild to come back to meetings as armageddon is coming in the form of swine flu and its going to kill everyone in a month because a member of the congregation had a dream , the problem is the month has passed !
what a lovely grandma telling her grandchild such bedtime stories ,physological child abuse i would have thought it really pisses me off that these people get away with putting such fear into kids heads and have the damn nerve to look down on "worldley people " poor kids .

This is an often quoted but erroneous and very understated statistic. It is based on a 25% mortality rate in Europe which is correct but does not take into account the fact that the Plague swept throughout all of Asia and Eurasia and probably Africa and did so four to five times within a century.
There were approximately four hundred million people (excepting North and South America) and the first pandemic wave of Bubonic/Pneumonic Plague killed 25% of the population. Three more pandemic waves came within the 14th century killing 20-25% in the second wave and 10-15% in the next. The world's population was probably whittled down to half by the end of the 14th century.
There was also, in the late 14th century again, the genocidal warfare of Tamerlane which killed at least ten million.

the first one i can remember making a definate comparison to the witnesses in my mind was ray bradbury's martian chronicles.

I must unfortunately admit that having read 1984 did not help me get out of the JWs but once I got out I was inspired to read quite a few dystopian books most of which have been mentioned already. I would suggest to any George Orwell fan that they read Homage to Catalonia which relates his experience in the Spanish Civil War and provided the inspiration for his books 1984 and Animal Farm.

Has anyone had Lasik Surgery?
by homeschool ineverybody whose had it says great things except their night vision is a lil off.
i went walking this morning & saw a duck but i thought it was a gopher at first .
do you know of anybody whose had lasik & is happy or unhappy with the results?.

I had Lasik some years ago and it was performed poorly by the doctor. I wanted to go to the best doctor in my area but they redirected me to another doctor who was a rank amateur. Back then there was only one size of laser which was too small for my bigger than average eyes, thus the doctor should have warned me that the glare effect would have been even worse than average. Also, you are supposed to keep your eyes perfectly still while the laser is operating but a lot of people get unconsciously nervous and tense and their eyes go upwards causing "decentration" with the after effect of having, permanently" double and or multiple vision. That is not too much of a problem for modern machines because they have a tracking device that automatically shuts off until your eyes are in alignment. My machine did not have that tracking device so now, especially at night time, I see multiple-8 or so-traffic lights.
In order to fix my eyes now I would need to have a cornea transplant due to the fact that I have had multiple operations (unsuccesful) in one eye and everytime you perform another operation your cornea gets thinner.
My suggestion is that you go to the best doctor in the field, even if you have to travel some, and ask questions about his machine as well as getting from the library any books on the subject.
If you are near to the Los Angeles area the best doctor, in the nation, who was part of the research team for Lasik, is Dr. Robert Maloney. Good luck and be careful.

Some basic training in how to seize and or jam the weapon would be practical. You would have to be face to face with the armed individual, which I don't recommend you do, but if you have no other choice you could grab the weapon and jam it by playing with the action. If you're knowledgeable with how a semiautomatic works and have some good luck in jamming the gun you should, if the gun is still in his hands try to wrestle it away and or engage in a fisticuff.
Another thing, which Hollywood movies shows, are two guys wrestling with the firearm and trying to get it to point at your opponent. In reality, if it's a rifle and you can get it within a foot of his head it does not need to go much further because pulling the trigger may knock him out or disorient him with the shock of the muzzle blast. The bullet itself doesn't have to hit him at all to give him a concussion.
Yes I know this all sounds crazy and desperate, with as much danger to yourself as to the shooter, but it's better than nothing.
