Being a JW is like......
by LouBelle insitting down to whatever is dished up in front of you and eating it.
it requires very little brain power or imagination.
you just shovel in the food, burp, pat your tummy and no matter what it is you've eaten think it's a great meal.. being a free thinker is like a chef, the one who gets to construct the meal, thought is required, knowledge of what works together is required, a desire to cook the meal, imaginiation.. .

I was thinking of becoming a witness again
by isaacaustin inuntil reniaa came along and proved to me that the wt can not possibly be of god and that there was no way that the gb was god's appointed channel of truth.. thank you reniaa...and for brushing me up on refuting jws on various topics..

Mouthy...How could anyone forget that story? LOL. It must be a favorite to use to make the rank and file members feel whatever they are doing surely doesn't measure up to the sacrifices others are making...Do more to be at your meetings!
Sadly, when I was a Jehovah's Witness I would swear it was a true story because it came from the Governing Body approved meetings. It was nurishing spiritual food...It HAS to be true....right?
I am so thankful and appreciate that I no longer a part of the Watchtower Society. The organization is really sick.

Hey LukeWarm...Nice job...Just wanted to add the entire history of Watchtower Society's voting stance:
1950 - Conscience choice
[November 15, 1950, Watchtower, pages 445 and 446 ‘Subjection to the Higher Powers']1973 - Do not vote
[Watchtower October 15, 1973, page 627 ‘Why People of All Kinds Are Becoming Jehovah's Witnesses’; Watchtower, December 15, 1973, page 741 ‘Earth’s Rulers for a Thousand Years’]1981 - Do not vote including disfellowshipped for doing so
[Pay Attention To Yourselves and to All the Flock. Copyright 1981. page 149 under '(4) Neutrality']1986 - Do not vote
[Watchtower, September 1, 1986, page 21]1999 - Conscience choice
[Watchtower, November 1, 1999, ‘Questions for Readers’, pages 28 and 29]Their "current" stance is their "old" stance from 1950! Another flip-flop from the boys in Brooklyn.

I commented about apostates today at the meeting
by cognac ini couldn't help myself.
it was so obnoxious what the paragraph was saying about apostates.. so i said that having a difference of opinion is not a problem but really as brought out by thessolonians it is when a person raises themselves up above god to have people follow them instead of god that they are considered bad in god's eyes.. i don't even know if it had anything to do with the question, but i just wanted to say that, lol..

reinaa: "out of context wt's are not proof why not show the whole article un-edited please in context"
It is not out of context. It was a point blank review statement. There are no contextual sentences before or after that point. Another review point/statement was made after and before it. See for yourself; left hand column on the page, near the center of the page. It is under the heading "Lessons for Us".
Justify and convince yourself however it may please you. But seriously, think about it reinaa. Even if that statement was made with other surrounding statements, in what context would such a remark ever be acceptable? In what context would stating something as "become a part of the Bible" be appropriate?
Even if you can think of such a scenario, it still does not apply here. Check the reference for yourself. Please do so...December 15, 2008 Watchtower, page 28, left column, near the center of the page.

JW says shunning a personal decision
by blondie inorganization member tressa ballard, 62, left the jehovah's witnesses in 1990 and has since embraced evangelical christianity.
the colorado springs resident sometimes speaks at the meetings about how four of her five children who remained in the church refuse to talk to her since she left the faith.
"people can leave, but they will be shunned by family and friends," ballard said.. .

reniaa: "I 'tested' the spirit of trinity and find it unbiblical it is not the word of God so I chose a religion that does teach the word of God. and I follow the leaders of that religion."
Really, do they teach the word of God or go against it?
The Bible condemns adding to the Word of God. This is emphasized in such scriptural passages as: Deuteronomy 4:2, Deuteronomy 12:32, Proverbs 30:5-6 and Revelation 22:18-19.
What does the Watchtower Society allow and promote?
The December 15, 2008 Watchtower on page 28 states:
“Our coming to know “the truth” – the entire body of Christian teachings that has become part of the Bible – and adhering to it are essential for salvation.”
Yes, "the truth" (Which of course is the interpretation and beliefs as taught by the Watchtower Society) has become part of the Bible according to the Watchtower magazine which is promoted and reviewed by the Governing Body, serving as spiritual food for Jehovah's Witnesses.
How is that teaching the word of God? They can't even follow what the Bible plainly states.

How I figured JWs were NOT the truth...
by cognac ini remember thinking growing up that i wasn't sure it was the true religion but because my family were so sure of themselves and so many people believed it that i loved and respected it had to of been the truth.. then, i reasoned that because we were the only ones who fulfilled the preaching work that there was no other way any other religion could be the true religion except us.
plus, we used jehovah's name and didn't take it out of the bible but the preaching work was really the main thing that kept me in.... i was always afraid to really study just the bible because i knew a ton of things might not be right.
otherwise, why would so many jws be afraid to run into a greek scholar out in field service.

reniaa: "the 2 biggest issues people have against witnesses are Blood and df-ing shunning"
Really? Well, you're certainly not speaking for me. The flip-flopping of doctrine is a HUGE issue and further proof how the Jehovah's Witnesses are being led by men in a guesswork system...

It's his mother who is a JW. Some feel very defensive and protective/supportative of JW when family members are involved. If Joel's mother was Amish the story would have a similar slant but towards the Amish belief system. This is not to minimize the fact that people throughout history (Including JW) have been wrongly punished as a result of doing no harm but seemingly good to others. It doesn't make them a true religion or only right faith; just victums of circumstance. JW suffered during WW II? Sure....As well as many other groups, including over 6 million Jewish people.
I did find it very interesting the similarities and comparisons made to the Mormon faith. They share a lot in common with JW when it comes to teaching techniques, beliefs of needing their publications for understanding of truth, and consequences if one leaves the faith. Both religions being started by a man. For the Witnesses it is Charles Taze Russell, for Mormon's it is Joseph Smith.
