Hi Jeff--I enjoy your posts. You left a very abusive, manipulative cult. That is very impressive. (As everyone here understands and should be patted on the back for).

It is hard, as we all know, to leave, stay out, and not reflect on all that. As noted, depression seems common. I won't give any advice. I will just ask you to keep posting as long as you feel up to it. I don't post on your threads enough, but, I do appreciate them.

swine flu is armageddon ! anyone else heard that one ?

my friends mum is a dub , and she has told her grandchild to come back to meetings as armageddon is coming in the form of swine flu and its going to kill everyone in a month because a member of the congregation had a dream , the problem is the month has passed !

what a lovely grandma telling her grandchild such bedtime stories ,physological child abuse i would have thought it really pisses me off that these people get away with putting such fear into kids heads and have the damn nerve to look down on "worldley people " poor kids .

Read some of my posts for the Armageddon predictions I've been getting from my family. I should be locked up in a rubber room by now based upon the number of doomsday e-mails I get.

If something negative is heard in the news, it is Armageddon / Great Tribulation fodder for the JWs.

You need to talk them down. Do some serious research on the subject that they are bringing up and point out that these things happened before in history and, yet, here we still are.

I hope you are OK.

I got that dvd from my Mom and honestly, I couldn't watch it. It brought back every bad memory of the Paradise book. I don't know if you remember that book; it was kind of coral colored and was made for kids from what I can recall. I remember taking crayons to it.

You are not a monster. You are a very strong person who left a very strong cult. It is a cult. I left years ago so it is easier for me to talk about than someone who recently left. I still have contact with my Mom's side of the family, yet, it is difficult.

Please don't feel that this site is a waste of time. It is a great place to learn about the feelings you have and the resources that you need to understand those feelings.. There are so many people here who went through what you did.

Oompa sometimes just doesn't seem to take threads seriously. Don't let posts like his let you walk back into the cult or to hurt yourself.

Armageddon is not going to happen. We all have come to accept that. We all have sat down and logically read information and thought about the lies we read and realized that they are just that. LIES. The JWs do not have the truth. It is a story. A made up fantasy to control people.

when the congregation recommended that i once again serve as an elder, one elder raised the objection that that barbara was a low-hour publisher.

Here is one story from the local ABC station in Chicago about a man who had an illegal handgun and who shot an intruder in his own home. The same dumbass criminal came back two nights in a row to rob (possibly assualt) his family.

The suburb, Wilmette, is one of the most expensive suburbs in the Chicago area. It is in the same county as Chicago.

He shot, the criminal survived and got two years and the homeowner was fined $750 for violating the handgun ban.

Man's home gets broken into, cops don't do crap, he protects his family, he gets fined.

That's f^cked up.

MY APOLOGIES TO ALL

looking back over the last few weeks, i think i've been unnessarily rude to some posters and i just want to apologize to anyone who has been on the receiving end of my anger recently.. i believe that i'm so angry, dismayed, devastated and heartbroken over what's happening to my brother in law, that i've been taking it out on others and that's not right.

it makes absolutely no difference what i think of the wts as a whole, or whether or not americans have a universal healthcare system......none of that makes any difference whatsoever when someone you love and has been like your brother for 35 years is dying and there's not a fucking thing we can do about it.. my sister just called me and there's more bad news, and that's that his disease has now progressed into the acute myeloid leukemia which means he cannot start the therapy they were going to give him, as this is far more serious now.

they want to start chemo right away, but his blood counts aren't up high enough for him to survive.

Still, I feel bad for him.

One more stat on drugs and how, maybe, drugs can Kill?

Maybe.

What do I know. I stopped doing hard drugs right after college when I had to get a job and realized I couldn't pay for drugs, a car, a house, insurance, food, clothing and my student loans.

I opted to stop the drugs.

Since I still can't afford to get high (and don't want to), I am putting my money in my 401k so I can retire someday. Weird how that works.
