Forced chemo, parental rights, and religious freedom
by dinah inthis case just bothers me.. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ap_on_he_me/us_med_forced_chemo.
yes, i understand parents are responsible for their children and i dont want anyone stepping in to take control of mine but when your views of life are clouded by religious crap......... the mother says her child is not in immediate danger from cancer?
misplaced faith if you ask me.

So, will they (Big Brother) start demanding that JWs take blood transfusions? Where does it end?
If they can demand that a kid get chemo, then they can demand a kid get a vaccination etc.
I agree, the parents are totally f-up'd, but, do we want them to tell us we can't feed out kids Captin Crunch?

Need Copy of Recent "Questions From Readers" About JWs Eating Fats...
by ziddina inwhen i attended a support-group meeting in february [2009], someone in the group brought a wtbts magazine with a very odd "questions from readers" on the back.
[may have been the jw version of feb. 2009 watchtower??].
the "questions from readers" was something to the effect of "are jehovah's witnesses allowed to eat fats?

My Mom would have lost 30 lbs. in the last few months. And, she would have e-mailed me and told me how bad they were according to The Society.

Who have you lost?
by alamb ini wonder if we each put up who we lost from our lives and how long ago if it would be a testament to those who might find this thread and think.
the absurdity.. my parents: 12 years.
my brother: 12 years (he is now married).

Pretty much my family on both sides. The worldlies don't speak to me because we were cut off at a young age because, well, they were worldly and bad. As a result I never got to know them and don't even remember their names. That is a lot of people. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc.
JW family are reluctant to speak to me in person. I'm a fader so they will speak to me superficially. They want to avoid contact in case my evilness rubs off. Because, of course, I am an evil person. Not believing Armageddon is coming and all.
On one hand I think I am better off not having contact with the dubs because they are so nutz, then I think about all the fun I had with them when they weren't in JW robo mode and they could be lots of fun. That makes me sad.

I would like know how you first found this site, and what was your first experience on here like?
by BonaFide inmy experience?
in the past few years, i liked to research stuff on the internet for talks.
and for experiences, i used to google jw's to see news articles.. then one day last year, i saw this site, and it said that it discusses anything related to jw's.

I have been out for years. Faded years ago and decided to google jehovahs witnesses. I found JWD. I started reading. I read the site for years-about 5 actually. I thought about registering because there were so many things I could add but then someone would say what I was going to so why bother.
Then the site changed and I got nervous and decided I had better register when I had the chance.
I don't recall my first experience reading here. It was years ago.
Reading people's experiences here helps keep me sane when dealing with some of my family. Just when I think no one can have a family as messed up as mine I read here and realise that as JWs, the majority of them are really messed up and I'm not the only one. Thank you for that.

Would you want your funeral at home?
by sammielee24 ini always thought the process of using a funeral home was morbid and i always wondered why people couldn't be set out in their living room for visitation with family and friends.
i thought it was the law that you had to use them but i guess it isn't after all.
i wonder how many people will start opting for home?

Shudder
Having a dead body in my living room, or kitchen () just doesn't sound appealing. Having just buried my MIL, the cost for the services was outrageous. Having to pay up front with cash, no credit allowed, was even worse. I wouldn't have wanted to cleanup, get ready, lay out or anything else with her cancer ridden body.
Yes, funeral directors are scoundrels. But they are providing a service that I can't do (don't want to do). So I am forced to pay the going rate.
That is a great article BTW.

I have used the WWJD arguement lately. It is effective. It is hard for a JW to say "Yes, Jesus would DF someone for drinking 3 glasses of wine at a party and seeming drunk on 2 separate occations." I have used that exact example.
edited to add: since alcoholism is considered a disease and needs treatment, the last thing a loving, christian person should be doing is cutting off a person who clearly needs help. Shunning them into submission is not going to make them stop drinking. As I pointed out to the person I used this example on. The person who got DFd for drinking was an alcoholic and needed help. He only got worse after being DFd. She agreed and said no, Jesus wouldn't shun them and wouldn't cut them off; he would try to help them and the dubs are wrong to DF people for this and for smoking. No matter how bad smoking is for you.
