So sorry you weren't there for your Mum.
I wish my Mom would visit my sis who is dying in the hospital as I type this. She has various excuses, however, I know it's the religion.
Effing, JWs.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
its been 2 years.
she was lying in intensive care (i didnt know she only had a few days left)...... building up to the bloody convention in cardiff millenium stadium.
yap yap yap we can take you yap yap, you need to be there yap yap, oh my head was all over the place.

my wife and i went to fedex / kinko's this afternoon and ran into a girl who was df'ed several years ago, (her parents are quite the rabid jw's.).
they have two daughters, and the younger one recently got married at the kh.. the older one who we were talking to proceeded to tell us that she decided to attend her younger sisters wedding ceremony which was fine despite the fact that nobody talked to her.. but after the wedding she was basically ushered out of the hall.
she was not allowed to participate in any pictures, or allowed to speak to the new couple.
Terrible.
Now a way to fight back.
In this day of tiny digital electronic video devices, take one along on your next JW outing and start the camera rolling.
I used my iPhone to video a recent encounter with a JW and someone else. I am debating what to do with it.
iPhones with video capabilities are incredible. Ethical? I leave that up to you. However, as a source of proof of what you are talking about and to prove the point, invaluable.
this doesn't sound good.. .
orthodox jews require victims to call rabbis instead of police.
the close-knit orthodox jewish community insists that rabbis, not the nypd, get the first phone call about a suspected child abuser.
Oy vey!!!
Frightening and oh, so similar!
we've agreed to compromise on our differences and support each other through the years we have left.. i'm seeing a psychiatrist today to deal with my difficulties that stem from a traumatic and tumultuous childhood.. he is willing to yield in his beliefs that a man should control everything and make all the decisions.. being a stubborn jamaican, i realize how hard that is for him.. we're going to renovate the house so that he has his own quarters.. that way, my boisterous g'kids won't work his nerves too badly.. just wanted to put it out there.. syl.
Good luck Sylvia! I wish you and Mr. S. all the best.

I agree PSacramento. I haven't known many, (any who will admit) Atheists in person other than my sister. She is hardline to the max and it turns people away. She is the in-your-face, push her attitude on anyone who will listen. Her son heard this his whole life. I have to believe she and he are the exceptions. There are too many criminals in jails who are *religious*.

I think that NO RELIGION ( or any philosophy for that matter) should ever teach morals based on the "reward or punishment" principle, because if they do, what are we truly teaching?
That ulterior motives are the reason behind what we do.
Being raised a JW, along with my sister, who turned hardline Atheist, I can say that if I had kids, I'd rather they be raised as Catholics than nothing at all. I agreed to this when I got married.
My sister raised her kid as an Atheist. He is, IMO, a worthless POS. Now, that is because of how he was raised. My sister and her husband can be likened to Bonnie and Clyde. Having those two as your role models sets one up for abject failure in life. Sis refused, with good reason, all of our Mother's attempts to let the kid visit and go to the KH. He would have only been more messed up.
The kid (he is 32 now), so far has a litany of moral offenses including adultery to his name. His legal ones include not paying taxes which make him a freeloader on the rest of us.
All under the benign gaze of his parents who tout him as the model of what a good son should be. <insert eye roll and puke>
Are all parents blind to their kids short comings?
I like the *Do unto others* idea. What you do to others will eventually come around and either bite you in the ass or give you a hug. It's your choice.
i just wanted your thoughts on this situation.
there was a young boy from my former congregatioin,he was about 5 years younger than me.. and his parents were overly strict with him.
but,i think the combination of being witnesses plus being raised the old-fashioned,southern way themselves was a bad combo for their son.. anyway,he got a lot of beatings at the meetings.
My mom is still an advocate of a good beating. She confirmed it in the last few weeks. "If only people gave their kids a good beating, with a belt or strap, these a$$hole kids would listen and not be in trouble."
I couldn't tell you what context the conversation was about, however, she is still a firm believer in the *pull your hair*, *hit with what-ever-tool is in your hand to make a point* camp.
Lovely, Christian, *WWJD* mentality. (PUKE)
Believe me, this MS's parents are lucky they even see him and his family at JW events.
the cancer finally got to her and now my sisters and i are left without our mother.
we take comfort only in knowing that she is no longer in pain.
how do people move on from such a massive loss?.
Very sorry to hear of your loss lola.
My condolences to you and your family.
i think patti labelle is too much of a screamer when she "sings".. i don't think jerry seinfeld is all that funny.. i'm just not into george clooney.
he's way overrated!.
Everyone of them.
Why do they deserve the millions of dollars they make? How many jobs do they provide to others? How much income do they actually bring into the local economy?*
Why are they not vilified for earning millions, perhaps hundreds of millions a year, and a CEO is? A CEO has responsibiliy for thousands of employees and the health of an organization. I could go on but why bother?
That said, some of them are good singers, good actors, good word smiths, etc. However, none should be chased by the media like they are. Who cares what they are doing right now? Twitter? What a waste of time.
Don't get me started on sports stars.
*Charlie Sheen ended up shutting down production of a very successful tv show. How many people were laid off due to his ego? And he was the most watched celebrity and we were told no one could act like him. No one can fill his shoes. And I should care? Why? I care only because people only spoke about Charlie and not the people who were out of work. Sad commentary on values.
a neighbor four doors south of me.
the night before our trash pick up he send his sons out (20-30 year old) with their trash and fill up the neighbors trash cans.
i was speechless when my next door neighbor told me this.
Motion detector lights and camera. Costs about $100.00 total. You'll have added security and the neighbor will go find someone else's trash bin to throw his crap into.
BTW, we are dealing with a recycling thief. We have to pay for a recycling bin. A local contractor picks it up. He and his little company make money by picking it up and taking it to the recycling place. A nasty job by anyone's standard.
I caught a group of dirty, filthy men in a pickup late at night going house to house taking all the recycling stuff. They were stealing from the recycling people!! It might not seem like much, however, the people that do it for a living are losing on all that trash. The recycling people come in the morning after the trash men and pick up the recycling bin stuff.
I yelled at them and they turned their vehicle around and turned the lights off and left. I have seen them in other areas, just not ours. Unbelieveable what people are doing now.
