Blood Witness is finished! I just released the final episode.
Man, this was an intensive project. Each episode took about five hours of work: An hour to record, 3-4 hours to edit, 15 minutes of post processing, 20-30 minutes of mixing, and another half hour to tag the MP3 files, upload them, update the XML for the RSS feeds, and update the website.
And there was at least 25 hours of work before I started recording – setting up the web and getting the graphics for it just right, doing a sample episode for a critique before it passed the muster of Podiobooks.com, selecting the into/outro music and getting permission to use it and setting up an audio template that made it easy to create both versions without much re-mixing.
Of course, that's not counting the time it took to write the novel in the first place, but I did that twenty years ago, so at least that part was done.
The responses have been fantastic. The listeners fell into three camps – ex-JWs, horror fans, and people who gave it a try because they liked my other stuff – mostly the Quick Hitts podcast. With the exception of a single poorly written attack in the comments of the Quick Hitts blog I didn't get a single negative response. (Which, frankly, was a little disappointing. I was hoping it would piss off a few more people.)
It's available in two versions – the Podiobooks.com version, and the "live" version. The only difference between the two is the closing comments. The live version has about five minutes of closing comments at the end of the episode. The podiobooks version doesn't.
If you haven't checked it out yet, what are you waiting for? It's free, it fun, and it's a damn good book. (I don't believe in false humility.) It's full of action, adventure, blood, gore, humor, horror, plot twists, and naughty language. It's available on podiobooks, iTunes, or via an RSS feed. You can even listen to it directly from the web site, if you like.
Check it out at http://www.bloodwitness.com

Would you be attracted to crosses? I don't have any idea what garlic would do to you.
No, you wouldn't be attraced to crosses, but you wouldn't be afraid of them either. However, someone holding up a pencil could scare you off.
Garlic affects all vampires, because of their acute senses.
I had a lot of fun with this in Blood Witness, a novel about a JW who becomes a vampire. It's available as a free podiobook at www.bloodwitness.com.
The cross v. stake hasn't scene happened yet, but it's only a few episodes away… -

Will There Be a Holy War in the US/UK?
by cameo-d indo you imagine that this could ever happen?.
-

In the UK, the old Europeans are not reproducing at replacement rates. Fundy Muslims are breeding like rodents, well above the replacement rates. Europe could become predominantly Muslim via breeding.
In the US the Quiverfull movement is attempting to do the same thing here. I don't think they'll succeed, but the idea is to bread idiots and drag down society to their level by sheer numbers.
As noted, the very best method of birth control is education, and wealth. Smart people breed less. But unless we can spread those smarts we could find ourselves in an "Idocoracy" or "Marching Morons" scenario by mid-century. And if that happens we can be sure there will be war at some level or other. -

Here's what I'd suggest to counter it. It will take a bit of cash, but would be well worth it.
Get your own GPS device. There are self contained devices that sell for about $300. They'll track wherever something is at the moment, provide a history, and even record speed while in transit.
Put one in the private vehicles of the police chief, the DA, and a cop or two.
After collecting the information for a couple of weeks, post it on a web site, preferably one hosted overseas. Register the domain with a foreign registrar that will protect your identity.
You could do all this for a couple of grand. The response from these hypocrites will be amazing!
Here in Washington state they can put monitor bracelets on people for a variety of reasons, I think its a good idea.
Would you think it's a good idea if you were required to wear one? And don't think it couldn't happen to you. It's impossible to leave the house without breaking some law, and more and more people are being caught up in the system for doing something trivial that happens to be illegal. -

Reading is over-rated
by yadda yadda 2 inhave you ever seen people who just constantly read.
they read at every given opportunity, at the gym, on the bus and train, at the beach, all weekend, even while holidaying overseas they mostly just read.
you even see them going down the street holding a book while walking, like some kind of zombie.

Good advice for those trying to break free from the JW world and chronic apostate bookworms is to desist from all reading for a while. Take up dancing, sports, martial arts, yoga, running, and devote yourself to that and only that....get out of your head and into your body for a few months and you'll find incredible refreshment.
This is some of the worst advice I've ever seen on a recovery board.
Yes, doing physical things is great. Even more importantly, getting out and meeting real (worldly) people is vital to a healthy recovery.
But the real problem with being an ex is reclaiming your mind. You need exposure to ideas, lots and lots of them. Good ones, bad ones, smart ones, dumb ones. You should read and read and read some more. Novels, non-fiction, everything you can get your hands on. -

And oldie but a goodie:
In the Garden of Eden lay Adam,
Contentedly stroking his madam,
And great was his mirth
For on all of the earth
There were only two balls -- and he had 'em. -

Cars - Gary Newman
Although for me, nothing beats The Alman Brothers for driving music. Was there ever a better jam band? (Answer: no.)

Do you still buy album CDs anymore?
by Leolaia inor do you mainly download?
i have been revamping my '80s music collection this week and resorted to downloading a bunch of music from amazon to upgrade to higher quality mp3s.
i have a ton of cds that i have ripped my music from as well, but i had to fill those holes with stuff i could only get from online stores.

About the only time I buy CDs is if it's a local artist I want to support. Or occasonaly as a gift for someone else.

Sorry, but anyone who isn't willing to use their real name to register a domain doesn't deserve serious consideration. There are a few exceptions, of course, but this doesn't look like one of them.

First off, condolences and sympathy. Many of us here have gone through similar things, and some people find at least a bit of comfort in that.
Concentrate on the fact that none of this is your fault. You are not acting inhuman here. They are. You have no control over them. Faceless old farts in Brooklyn have control over them, and until/unless they realize it they'll be trapped. As much as it hurts, you can't do anything about it.
They didn't have to give the toys back. That was just done to be mean.
It's worse than mean. It borders on evil. How did the kids feel about losing their toys? Bet they (she) never even considered that. I'm guessing this was done at the instigation of the DIL (what an appropriate abbreviation). It sounds like she loves to intentionally inflict pain. What a wonderful person.
