  Wrong date

  hello i'm new to the whole jw study thing, but they said it fell in 607 but due to the advice of others here i looked it up.

  i found in 3 encyclopedia's online that it fell in 586. i printed them out and am going to get more.

  i'm going to show the lady i study with, i'm just curious what you think will happen, and if she will try to deny it.

  In other words, once again, without 1914, the witnesses are like any other fundy group as stated earlier. Thank you "scholar" for at least admitting that 607's purpose is to support 1914.

  A major flaw in the argument supporting 586 or 587 is that scholars cannot determine exactly what year is correct. This fact alone should cause one to exercise soundness of mind and use one's critical thinking.

  Hmmm... Interesting "critical thinking" considering that you are taking a date with less historical support than 586/587 and teaching it as "established fact". Scholar, have we forgotten (perhaps you are not even aware) that the witnesses used to teach... GASP!! ... 606BCE? I like your society's "let's pick a date and use it to cover up a misprediction of christ's return" critical thinking ability scholar, it makes for a good chuckle every now and then.

  It may sound real good for a witness to tell you that they base their chronology on "God's word" rather than secular sources, but just remember that they are biased to making you a member of their flock. Not everything is a battle between good or evil. Sometimes, their just selling something.

  Christmas Star = Satan?!

  i was talking with my husband the other day about the jw's belief that the "christmas star" that guided the magi to christ was the doings of satan.

  he didn't believe me; this is what i found in the "my book of bible stories" (copied verbatim from cd-rom).

  who do you think made that new star to shine?

  i would sincerely like to know what is so wrong with jehovah's witnesses.

  i invite anyone to post here.

  please use facts not personal opinions.. i am not interested in dates, the blood issue, nor the disfellowshipping issue since i am conviced that these do not prove that they are wrong.. i am weighing in to see if you as an opposer of jehovah's witnesses have the facts or not.

  ianao: typical response of posters in this board. When they can't answer, they rely on the same accusation, that my thought process has been obscured by the WTS.

  Typical rebuttal from a brain-dead JW. When they themselves can't answer, they make pittiful attempts at reverse psychology. Everyone here has seen how you value an ideal over reality.

  My thoughts are logical. If we believe the Bible to be God's Word, then we see that the Israelites were not a man-made organization.

  In other words, you don't want to consider the ramifications of what we are talking about, so you are (probably unconciously) side-stepping the issue. Israel was a nation, written in scripture. Christianity was written throughout most of the NT. NOWHERE DO THE SCRIPTURES MENTION THE WATCHTOWER BIBLE AND TRACT SOCIETY.

  It was theocracy. Israelites had bad elements in their society, but the only way to be protected and get Jehovah's approval was to follow his commandments and be part of that organization.

  That's right knucklehead.

  Also, the 1st century christians did not have a man-made organization, but followed theocratic guidance.

  They also had some bad elements, but Jesus guided them through imperfect men in Jerusalem, travelling overseers such as Paul, Silas, etc. and also the elders in the different congregations.

  So, my question is very logical. Why would Jehovah and Jesus change the way they did things in the past?

  Nice question. My answer would be... Because the LAW was tired and could not be lived up to. The new covenant was indeed a change, otherwise, their would be no Christianity and everything would STILL be Judaism under the mosaic law. (Have you forgotton why the christ did what he did!?) Now let me ask you a question...

  Do YOU follow Jesus as the early Christians did, or do you merely follow a MAN-MADE ORGANIZATION who TELLS YOU they are guided by Jesus?

  How many rights are you denied as a christian because this organization TELLS YOU that you are not under that covenant?

  Technically, you can't really even call yourself a Christian, can you?

  Introspection:
  I like your approach. Yes, I will accept evidence that the WTS is Not God's Organization. The evidence I accept is: If Jehovah is not using the Witnesses to spread the good news and help people do his will to be saved? Then, who is he using?

  Some will say that he does not need an organization. I do not believe that. Jehovah is an organized person and constant. He organized the Israelites and through Jesus, organized the first century Christians.

  See, I do not want to die. I know I will not go to heaven, because I don't feel that in my heart. I don't want my family to die either. I want to live a New System of things that the Bible does speak of. I believe that and will accept strong, biblical evidence of how to achieve that without the guidance of Jehovah's Organization.

  A sad example of the thought process of one who is part of a publishing company who has usurped the authority of Jesus Christ given to him by his father and replaced it with a need to be part of a MAN MADE ORGANIZATION.

  In regards to the dumb example that other religions are also composed of imperfect men. Well, that is true, but the thing is what do they teach about basic doctrine? Are they teaching completely false ideas like the trinity, hellfire, infant baptism, once saved always saved, just accept Jesus and that's it?

  Many of those "other religions" can show you exactly why they teach what they teach, and why what you consider basic doctrine and what they consider basic doctrine are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. It always comes down to interpretation and OPINION. These other religions don't teach 1914, FDS and a limited covenant with Jesus, but yours does.

  How many pastors/ministers have you personally listened to anyway? (listened == sincerely listened, not waiting for the next chance to control the discussion). Do you know for a FACT that ALL other religions teach the concepts you mentioned? No. You are ASSuming something that you shouldn't be ASSuming.

  This idea of (if they don't teach what I as a witness was taught, then they are full of crap) is just as dogmatic coming from you as it is from the "other religious" person stating their case to you.
