No, they gave it back. If you asked for a donation after placing it they would hand it back and say that is okay, so I never really asked because I wanted to place it and not want people to think we were after their money like everyone else. However, if someone offered I always turned it in. I remember older people would give money and tell me to buy a drink or something because they felt sorry for me, but normally it ended in the contributions. Dang I'm thirsty!

Did people DONATE for the literature when you went out in service?
by BonaFide ini think i got a donation maybe once or twice here in the states.
most of the friends don't ask for a donation.
in south america, more people donated, but i think it's because it was phrased differently, we used to say, "you can give whatever you want for this magazine.

How does the Annointed that survive Har-maggedon get to Heaven?
by Mad Dawg injust wondering, the wts teaches:.
that the annointed (the 144k) will rule from heaven.bodies of flesh can't enter heaven (therefore the annointed must die at some time to get to heaven).that there will be annointed that survive the big a.that those who are faithful after the big a will never die.if one becomes unfaithful after the big a, they will be destroyed.if all of the above are true, then any annointed caught on earth at the time of the big a will be stuck here forever and have no way to get to heaven.
do i have this right, or have i missed something?.

I always thought that they would just turn into spirit creatures and ascend to heaven like Jesus did because the people could see him when he went up. I think that they would just go to heaven after armaggedon and not have to wait here on earth. I mean God is going to be doing all kind of miraculous things during that time, it won't be too hard to turn a few physical bodies into spiritual ones and let them come up. Or to dispose of the dead bodies left on earth when the spirit or personality is transported into heaven.

Is the Kingdom Hall a good place for ugly guys to get pretty girls?
by donny inabout two weeks ago i was having lunch at an establishment that has tables set up on the outside (actually a sidewalk) and as i was waiting for my order, i overheard two guys talking at the next table.
a homely guy who had a pretty girl on his arm brought this response.
"wow man, look at that!

Yup, I've seen plenty of pretty girls with ugly guys. A lot of the times its funny and sometimes its truly depressing to see that. I use to always wonder why that was but as I got older I realized that most males either get in trouble, don't take to the religion as most girls do, or aren't very attrative so what happens? You see attractive sisters with guys below them. But i guess it is what on the inside that really counts lol.

Do you think we need a reasoning book for us to deal with JW?

LOL that is too funny. You know what I think some money could be made in making those. Sell them to individuals who live in highly worked territories, or disfellowshipped ones and those who have faded but family constantly try to bring them back.
What to say to a believing family member.
Conversation stoppers... that work: I'm disfellowshipped, I am an apostate, I've been arrested for attacking JWs.
And scriptures that teach against JW doctrines.

Would you rather see the WTS move mainstream or just collapse in a heap?
by ThomasCovenant inmaybe eventually the wts will adapt and change and try to go mainstream.. as 'new shite' shines brightly then;.
maybe eventually celebrating birthdays and even christmas will be 'allowed' without too many repercussions.. maybe eventually the 'blood' issue will fade away and 'brothers' wil be allowed the whole lot of fractions together at the same time.. maybe eventually disfellowshipping and particularly shunning will be seen as unloving and done away with.. personally i would rather this wouldn't happen.. i would prefer to see the wts collapse in the mire even with all the emotional fallout there would be to those still in having their crutches pulled away from them.. i don't want the wts to modify and adapt and go more gentle on the rank and file.. i want them to get more harsh with the brothers.. i want it to go down, not along.. am i being too cruel to those still in?.
would the more loving caring attitude be to hope that the wts changes for the better?.

Great Question! I am uncertain which I would prefer. As sad as it is I must admit there are some good things about Jws they way things are now.
For example, you're a member of a worldwide organization, so no matter where you go you can find like minded people who will embrace you even if they are brainwashed many are nice.
However, a collapse would be really, really, really cool to see. It would be like armageddon only its the end of the Org and not the system of things. However, mainstream would be cool too, cuz you could continue your life as you live just much more easier like everyone else. Be able to say you are a god-fearing christian who goes to church on sundays and believe you have the truth. The bad thing about a collapse would be how much it would hurt so many people, not all Jws are bad people. Maybe if only Bethel collapsed, that would be cool. Because people still could believe in what they wanted like normal humans and the Org would basically be no more. And "First Jehovah's Witness Kingdom hall"s would be popping up all over different cities just like other religions.
One can only dream...

Bethelite reverence
by Waffles inhave any of you had the experience of a bethelite brother visiting your kh?.
here's how it always seemed to go in my experience:.
there is a general kh-wide excitement in the air that a real, live bethelite rockstar is at the hall; overheard are numerous convo's featuring words like "o, he's a bethelite".. visiting brother bethelite gives the closing prayer and is immediately mobbed by adoring fans.. all the single sisters are on high alert, you can smell the estrogen in the air.

I've had those experiences. I couldn't agree more about what is being said.
I always thought that the friends acted like the apostles were visiting our congregation or something from the way they acted.
Everyone wanted to talk to them and hear their experiences and have them over for dinner.
Heck Bethelites got even more play and attention then COs did.

Why Do So Many DF'd End In Some Sort Of Trouble?
by african GB Member inmost ex-jw's df/da that i know end up living a dangerous life.
some get into drugs, prostitution, gangsterism, etc.
as a result they prove the jw theory that says "whoever leaves jehovah's organisation won't make it" right.. it's difficult for me to say this, but it seems like jw's are partly right on this one.. why do most ex-dubs end up in a predicament of some sort?

It does seem that alot of DF'ed ones get into a little trouble or become a little more radical, but i wouldn't say all or majority. I know of some who do just fine or really well and some who do really bad. I think it depends alot on the age. The older you are when you leave the less likely you are to get in trouble. But because some young ones leave they do things they never would have done if they had a different upbringing. The ones i know always grow out beards, tatoos and peircings and also drinking and partying. Maybe because they couldn't do it before but as far as adults go i think they just get on with their lives when they are disfellowshipped.

Service meeting last week on how to treat DF ones
by tinker ini just learned there was a service meeting part last week on how to treat df ones.
the person i heard this from said it was very hard on many in her congo.
did anyone attend that meeting or has there been discussion here?

Well the first week was about some other things too but it led into talking about Disfellowshipping and why it happens...You could the disfellowshipped ones turn red and get uncomfortable. The second week was strictly on the topic and how to treat them, needless to say not a disfellowshipped person in sight. I wonder if they'll return?

What Was The Very First Thing That Came Across Your Eyes That Lead You Down The Road To Doubt?

Not too long ago I was just browsing the net for information about bethel and i stumbled on new boy's bethel experience and I was curious and only read it because it was soo hilarious and I couldn't get enough. I told myself I would just pay attention to the entertainment aspect of the story and not so much the distrust and apostasy toward the org. And i started lurking looking at interesting stories and made an account just to be able to read things in the private section. Of coarse now I have more doubts about things i've been taught and am more cynical. I guess i'm at a cross road but its cool cuz my eyes have been open a lil, thanks new boy...

Did You're Being A Witness Influence You Regarding Marriage or Being Single?
by minimus indid you get married or stay single because you were a jehovah's witness?.
-
redking
I think being a JW puts a lot of pressure on whether one will get married or not. For guys and girls it can go either way depending on their spiritual goals. Average JW guys look forward to marriage because its the only way they can have sex and not get in trouble. The zealous JW guys though do not even think about marriage because they know if they married to young that they will miss out on spiritual oppurtunities like bethel and MTS. They're are a few spiritual girls that wait to get married because somehow they think there is more they can do before they get married, which there really isn't, not in this Org anyway or they spend their entire youth looking for the perfect bro: spiritual, handsome and not crazy, of coarse these are rare and when you do meet them what are the odds he'll want to get married. So these sisters grow up and get old and lonely because by now they aren't as attractive and all the available men aren't siritual enough. Then the not so spiritual sisters get married just to escape their elder father's tyrannical rule but sometimes just get into another one.
Moral of the story... your messed up either way...
