Well, as a kid I wanted to watch Ann of Green Gables sooooo much but it was on a meeting night (before tivo and vcr's that were user friendly). Of course, was NOT allowed to watch the Smurfs for fear a little blue guy would come running through the KH...hehe. no joke. Wasnt really allowed to watch Saved By the Bell because there was teenage dating and 'worldly" issues. Wasnt allowed to watch the Facts of Life unless pops wasnt home. Up until I moved out of my house at 18 I wasnt allowed to watch any movies worse than PG and now its funny when people say "oh remember when they did that thing in Deliverance? or Flashdance? or Spaceballs?" and I just havent gone back and gotten caught up yet ;-)

Spiritual vs. Religious
by Gram ini would like to know your thoughts on being spiritual as opposed to religious.
do you think they are one in the same, do you think the wts brings you to spirituality?
do you think the wts makes you a religious person?

spirituality is something that is IN you but most peeps who are religious learn to turn that part off. I am a new volunteer for hospice training, and there was a baptist man in the course who quoted jesus at LEAST ten times in just a few hours, and it was SO obvious that he had NO spirituality in him . the jdubs also confuse both terms together to make you feel like its the same thing. but it is not. At all. you already have spirituality in you....just acknowledge it and you'll see. I'm not talking hippie tree hugger stuff either

Driving pet peeves
by keyser soze ini have to confess that i sometimes suffer from a minor case of road rage, especially on the expressway, right after work.
i have quite a few pet peeves, but two that especially bother me.. first, when people apply their brakes constantly, and for no apparent reason.
it's generally people who have already cut in front of me and forced me to slow down.

I was just driving to Nashville to meet a friend and it was raining pretty bad. There were about four cars ahead of me who kept tapping their brakes for no apparent reason. I was too nervous to pass them cuz they were obviously nervous, but i couldnt take staring at their tapped lights any longer. WheW! I made it! ;-)

How Have YOU Changed Since Leaving The Witnesses?
by minimus inare you that much different now?.

I no longer consider myself a christian, and I actually feel proud to say that. I dont view pagans as a word to *GASP* at. I dont look at gay people like they're from outer space or pervertLand. I sleep in on Sundays. I "do" things now instead of saying that I'll do them when the new system comes. Me & my handsome hubby took our dogs for a beautiful hike yesterday and I didn't once think to thank jahooba, but instead was simply grateful that I have my health. On a negative note, I feel more skeptical about things. I'm a massage therapist and have a VERY tough time opening up to 'spiritual' modalities like Reiki and energy work. I feel like I was lied to by the JW's for twenty years of my life, and my immediate family is still "in"... I dont want to fall for something like I did before but worry if I should quit being so skeptical.

Do not Disassociate, Anull your baptism
by jwfacts ini am now a jedi, so trust me on this.. .
why dis-associate, you are just playing by the wts rules?
how can you dis-associate anyway, you never thought you were baptised as a watchtower society member, you thought your dedication was to god, so why formally disassociate from something you did not formally join?

Arent you still allowed to be called a JW even though you are not baptized? If my point is simply to have my baptism considered invalid, then they cant say I'm not part of them anymore. RIGHT? I haven't been active in ten years so who knows what rules they have regarding THAT...

I have a plan.I'm still going to write the letter, but will make it very clear that I am not disassociating myself. I understand those who say "why give them the satifaction?" its not about them. its about me and MY current GOOD relationship with my family. I haven't lost them, though they are strong in the faith. My mother, for sure, views my baptism as invalid but I haven't mentioned this notion to my 2 sis's and dad. I don't know if there's any jw spies on here, so i'll let you know the results afterward.

I really do not care what anyone in the congregation thinks of me. I have no desire to associate with them. But for once, I am finally close again with my Witness family and don't want to ruin that. I know, I should let sleeping dogs lie. But I hate the fact that "they" (the JWs) still have a hold on my life and if they were to drive by my house and see Christmas lights up, they could DF me and force my family into not talking to me. As of now, my family knows I do not believe and they are fine that I am inactive. So I'm just trying to come up with a way to get the baptism silently annulled, or considered invalid. To whomever talked about not saying a dedication prayer to Jah right before baptism, thats great and I would say that is a very valid point. I was 15 or 16 at the time and never pioneered or volunteered at a quickbuild site (really??? they could use that against me??). Anyway, I'm gonna give it a go again and see what happens :-)

I have read everyone's comments. I reaLLY want to write a letter of annullment....mainly because I want to put up Christmas lights but I'm living in the same town I was raised a jw in. I did what somebody above mentioned....when an elder came to our house to speak with my husband to "encourage" him, my hubby had to use the restroom. In that time, I looked the elder straight in the eye and asked him if he had any recording devices on him. when he said 'no' I stated that I did not welcome him into our home and that I needed him to stay away. I also mentioned that there was no way they would be able to prove that I've done anything wrong (since my baptism in '96) and that I would NEVER Disassociate myself or get myself df'd because my family still talks to me and I won't have it any other way. Since that night about 6 months ago, we have not heard a word from the jw's, but we (my husband & me) don't want to get df'd for the sake of our families. Grrrrrrr. I tried the annullment thing through my elders at one point about 2 years ago, but they wrote the letter and then came back with the no-go answer. Thanks for the suggestions! I will try again...
