you need to ensure that you have your sister in her authentic mode, not the JW mode, otherwise she will just close up and it will fuel the prosecution complex that the WTS has told her she will see as she studies with them.....Very good point indeed. Problem is, she's pretty much ALWAYS in jw mode, except in rare circumstances when I'm playing lude hip hop and she tells me not to change it or when I offer her a 3rd glass of wine and she gladly accepts it
regarding the use of the name Jehovah in prayer I would probably ask your sister what she thinks could happen if, let's say, Satan thought a prayer addressed to God was addressed to him.Isaac, what do you suppose her response would be? Thanks for the PM's, muchas gracias

District Convention ruminations
by sir82 inif y'all can stand one more dc thread, i thought i'd post some miscellaneous rumbling ramblings about this year's edition.. to protect my privacy, i'd prefer not to disclose the location - pm me if interested.. ***** attendance, as in all other years i can remember, was much lower on friday than the other days.
in fact, the attendance was 22% lower on friday than on sunday.
so, as usual, they hammered home the point about the importance of attending all 3 days....on friday!

***** The drama was a masterpiece of emotional manipulation - but it was well-written for its purpose. The "worldly" characters were of course extremely broad caricatures of greedy sex-starved drunken louts, but the "good" JW (fleshly) brother was unusual - he was the "good son", yet he really came off as sanctimonious and holier-than-thou. I found it quite unusual to present someone on the "right side" as such an unflattering character. My jw sister told me about this and how there were so many people crying because they have a 'prodigal son' in their own families. I could totally picture my sister being one of those crying, which is precisely why I'm dead set on getting my family out of this cult... They dont need to be crying because of me! I'm FINE!

Parrot....when she decides that her children cannot play with my future children or let them attend birthday parties and what-not, it won't be about me. I'm thinking of the future. If I believed that her thinking was truly HER thinking, I'd let it go. But she is being mind controlled, and that is not okay with me.

I can't believe it. I've actually had two studies with my sister from that book. Yesterday, she told me I was being argumentative. That is NOT what I'm trying to accomplish. I don't want to merely 'make a point'...I want to get her OUT! The question I asked was about YHWH...I said that I totally understand that most people do not speak Hebrew so its important to translate all that stuff. But if you have a name representing the 'most high' & Almighty God, and the 1st translation only has 2 syllables (YA-Weh)....why translate it further? Why make more translations? If his name is to be primarily used & they stress that point religiously, then why didn't they show the world his true name is YaweH?
My sister made a point about how most religions of the 'world' pray to god, but that there are so many gods out there....she stated that even Satan is a god. Almost within the same breath, she switched it up and said that its okay to call Jehooba 'Provider', 'Caretaker', or whatever is needed during the time of prayer because Jehooba knows you are referring to Him. I pointed out that it sounded very similar to what she said about ten minutes prior. When most "worldly" people pray to god, THEY know who they are referring to, so doesnt Jehooba know they are referring to Him as well?
I dont even believe the Bible is the truth, so this is tough for me. I do believe in god, whoever he/she is. And I believe god knows who I'm praying to when I pray, even if I'm uncertain. Those two points do make me wonder though....maybe the jw apologists can help me understand.
The site below discusses the book, chapter by chapter...very interesting. However, I must pick and choose what I'm going to 'argue' about since there is SO much to choose from!

Name Things JWs Believe That Are Not Actually Biblically Provable
by minimus inhere's one example: being a congregation publisher.
nowhere in the bible does it say you should be a "publisher" and turn in your time if you preach.
they try to twist the scriptures by saying that numbers are constantly being recorded in the bible so then conforming to the rules of being a publisher is from the scriptures.. yeah, right..

...New Study on Vegetarian`s...Not as Healthy as Some may Think...
by OUTLAW insydney (afp) - people who live on vegetarian diets have slightly weaker bones than their meat-eating counterparts, australian researchers said thursday.. a joint australian-vietnamese study of links between the bones and diet of more than 2,700 people found that vegetarians had bones five percent less dense than meat-eaters, said lead researcher tuan nguyen.. the issue was most pronounced in vegans, who excluded all animal products from their diet and whose bones were six percent weaker, nguyen said.. there was "practically no difference" between the bones of meat-eaters and ovolactovegetarians, who excluded meat and seafood but ate eggs and dairy products, he said.. "the results suggest that vegetarian diets, particularly vegan diets, are associated with lower bone mineral density," nguyen wrote in the study, which was published thursday in the american journal of clinical nutrition.
"but the magnitude of the association is clinically insignificant," he added.. nguyen, who is from sydney's garvan institute for medical research and collaborated on the project with the pham ngoc thach university of medicine in ho chi minh city, said the question of whether the lower density bones translated to increased fracture risk was yet to be answered.. "given the rising number of vegetarians, roughly five percent (of people) in western countries, and the widespread incidence of osteoporosis, the issue is worth resolving," he said.. .

Research can be exhausting
by homeschool in....and i can completely see why so many jw's take what is given to them as opposed to doing their research.
in the appendix on the book (pgs 195-197), it talks about how jesus' name can be pronounced in many different languages, just as our own names may be pronounced differently.
so why do the jw's go solely with the english proncunciation of "jehovah" universally, when really, they could have chosen just to go with yaweh from the get-go, since that is truly the closest to the original yhwh?.

right fo' sho' on that. I know....I think I'm referring to Daniel's prophecy about Babylon never being inhabited again or how cyrus was going to be the one to do that.

So, what would happen if everyone in my genetically related family went vegan? I imagine most would lose weight. I think life expectancy would increase, especially for the men. I would hope that quality of life would improve too. Ultimately, though, people die.good point....I believe we just need to do what feels best to us & live as fully as possible, whatever that means to you. by the way, how was everybodys steaks and burgers and sauteed asparagus last night? My balsamic soaked portabella sandwish was OUTTA THIS World Yummy and I had asparagus from the grill for the first time. It was amazing too.
