Sorry to hear the wts was able to again succeed in destroying another family.
If he actually does began to shun you, you have very few options, one is to wait for him to wake up and smarten up or try sending him a personal, emotional letter and maybe include why you don't want to be part of wts and why he shouldn't cut contact with you - if possible get him to promise you he'll read it. I wish I had better advice.

i am hoping to get information / advice from someone on here that is a real estate guru.. i own a small piece of land in the hill country.
Call your local real estate agent or two and get them to give you a better assessment of what you can get for your land. (take average of 2 or 3 quotes) Local tax appraisals don't mean much, bank appraisal might give you a better figure on the present worth of your asset but they would charge you so go with real estate agents as they should do it for free and you shouldn't be under any obligation to list. If you find out that your property is worth, let say $10k, you should contact your local tax office and try to reduce the amount of taxes you pay on your property by disputing their assessment which you can do.
Local tax offices are slow in adjusting property values to the real market value which is especially true in a market where the prices have fallen.

For any single lurkers, think twice before getting married to a jw mate without at least sleeping with them. It's not fun being married to a roommate and kids just make it so much more difficult to leave or at least postpone the exit.
Zeb, listen to elderelite and others, plan an exit and plan for a life with less frustration. Sometimes it may take time but a hope of a better life is better than no hope at all. Damaged mates sometimes are beyond repair, and will not change even if they leave wts, I know, I got one. Won't swear, don't want to go past 2 positions and sex is simply awkward, hell can't even talk on the topic.

Hell, most if not all adult recruits have no idea what they're getting into. Born-ins probably don't get the whole thing until mid to late teens. 11 year old doesn't understand what shunning is, doesn't understand what wts teaches, all he knows is what he's told by an adult to be the truth and gets baptized because is told that's the right thing to do and a symbol of dedication to imaginary god.

i've been giving some thought to the recent development in which the judge has ruled that the society is barred from completing any property transactions until the appeal is over, which could take up to two years or even more.. i've submitted an article to randy at freeminds in which i basically argue that it is no longer in the society's interests to appeal this case.
if i correctly understand the restrictions placed on the society by the judge, then the governing body has far more to lose by appealing than they could conceivably gain.. think about it.... by appealing, they buy themselves time in which to formulate a long-term strategy for dealing with the fallout of this case, but will be barred from liquidating $1 billion in property assets at a time of global economic uncertainty when their donations are dwindling.
there is also no guarantee that their appeal will be upheld.by dropping their appeal, they take a hit and pay $23.8 million but retain the freedom to see through their real estate projects; retain their financial flexibility to respond to dwindling donations, and get to pretend to their followers (as with the un scandal) that it never happened.of course, i am only saying that dropping the appeal would be the only intelligent option for the society, assuming they are aware of how legally precarious their child abuse policies are.

Actually wts did refer to jws as rank and file in the past, if you search for it on this site, you'll find quotes from wts publications.

They will appeal as it wouldn't be of benefit for them to drop it. There is no buyer for any of their buildings at the moment and if there is one they will deal with it once they get there. They would go through the courts and have the injunction altered or lifted.
Money flow problems? Maybe from r&f for the publications, maybe lower revenue but does that mean they have money flow problems? If the below info is legit, you'll notice that the revenue from interest alone in '97 was almost 25 million for WTS of Pennsylvania. I would imagine their growth in investment assets would have grown since then and interest revenue should be higher today then back then.
This is assuming interest was from non-kh investments, but again since then they aquired quite a bit more khs which also means they could part with more buildings if they needed cash. Stocks and bonds are very liquid so I don't see how frozen buildings would change their position on appealing the case.
They already said they would appeal, plus paying the amount now would set a precedence for future cases and increase their liability. Plus why would anyone assume they are not cold hearted basters run by lawyers and accountants is beyond me.
