i love how it mentions that end times prophecies have been around forever and they've all failed.. goes on to mention william miller and 1844. mentions harold camping lol.

Awake is and was always focused on the public readership and this can be clearly seen from this article. Outsiders have no clue of the internal workings of wts and dubs are under wts spell so what this propaganda does it reinforces the dub to think that wts doesn't hide anything, they admit to making mistakes and they aren't false prophets because they don't claim to say that these are words of Jehovah. But did Miller say his idea was word of Jehovah or did Camping say his prophecy was word from Jehovah? I doubt it, so I guess those two dummies weren't false prophets either! So according to wts, unless you specifically state that you heard something specifically from God you're not responsible for your BS teachings and the title of false prophet doesn't apply to you.

Who else, besides me?
by AK - Jeff inover the years on jwn i have often found myself hunting through posts of newcomers, hoping against hope i suppose, that the newbie would be one of my former friends in the local congregation down the street.. i just find it hard to imagine that not a soul among these people has taken the courage to investigate their religion and leave like my wife and i have done.. as the local 'active apostate', i also supposed that at any moment some of the 'brothers' would come covertly to my home, knock and say something like " i am out - please let's talk about it, why i left, why you left.
but, none of the above has ever happened.
i did come across a local former jw here, from another congregation, and we have become good friends over the past few years.

It's hard to find ex members on the net who may be from the same congregations. It might help to use names of old congregations in posts as sometimes people search the net for others' names or congregation names to locate known friends or family members. When search engine indexes these names it may be easier to identify x members otherwise it's vary hard to identify someone from a post unless they give away some details of their whereabouts or identify situations you both are familiar with. The longer you're out, the less likely you'll identify with more current situations within the congregation you've attended thus it's harder to identify with newer members of jwn. Also, there are many that are still in and don't want to identify themselves as Conscious Class or closet Apostates as they fear being found out.
Anyways, over the years I'm been part of these congregations, if anyone down the road wants to contact me, feel free :)

Those that leave and never look back, still believe the wts shit for most part but can't be bothered with wts at the present time, and once they have some sort of fear that the end is near will run back the wts. People that research and end up on sites like this are in a process of actual healing and connecting and helping others who feel the same.

referring to facebook as a "social networking website" clearly isn't working.. the society now feels compelled to start being more specific about which websites it doesn't want you to visit!.

Hello,
Many of us went through what you're going and many are at different stages of their exit. Most already told you to take it slow and I can't emphasize enough to research, research, and research some more. If there is anything in particular you want just ask as all of wts' publications are in pdf.
You didn't say how your wife is, is she a firm believer in everything said by wts or has she awaken to the lie as well. One aspect of kids that I haven't read being said is you have to be careful with them that they don't grow older in the jw world only to shun you for leaving or even having different opinion than wts. This has happened to others.
Your friends in jw land are not real friends as most if not all will leave you once you fade or leave. Since you did awaken, the chances are you will do either within time as it will be too much to listen to pure lies and hypocrasy over time. Longer you stay and research your material you will see the misquotes, outright twisted reasoning and selective quotes throughout wts material and it will just get harder and harder to sit through meetings presenting these lies as facts.
Once you learn deep secrets of wts, it may be harder to keep this information just to yourself so be careful what you tell anyone that isn't awaken, which means your friends, family and even your wife and child. WTS is structured like a totalitarian system where one will rat you out to the elders and you may get shunned. This obviously varies with personalities and congregations but be cautious what you say - remember the jw saying that the new ones should be locked up for a year so they don't say anything stupid to the worldly people, well similar idea applies to awaken individuals but not because what they've learned is stupid but because they may lose everyone in wts that they considered friend or family.
Wish you all the best, you have a long journey ahead of you with many life changing decisions for yourself and most likely you wife and child.

defendant, the watchtower of ny, settled out-of-court for an unknown amount of money with the plaintiffs just weeks before the candace conti trial began at the end of may 2012 in oakland, california.

So were these settlements done in a similar manner as that of 2007 where the victims got cash settlements in exchange for their silance afterwards? So the cash settlement can't be disclosed and their full story cannot be told outside of the legal documents?
If such is the case, any future victims should take wts law suits right to trial and not settle anything prior to.
After Conti trial and the money awarded, future offers to silance the victims will have to be that much greater or the victims will push for court trial to judge the damages they deserve from wts. WTS' days of covering these crimes is over!!!

Many mental ill people don't realize they have a problem. Some hear things, other see things and on many occasions can live a normal live without others even knowing the person has a mental illness. How many people claim to hear god or talk to angels and so forth... Many think they're fine and won't seek help. Many people around them don't even think they have a problem and won't do anything about it until the mental illness acually progresses to the dangerous levels, but then again seemingly sane people have drowned thei kids because the voice told them so - by that point it's too late for help.

If they have the right to destroy families through shunning and get away with it I doubt denying gay marriage would be an issue. They would simply pull two guys into the back room and df them through a jc and they wouldn't even have to deny them marraige at the kh.
But if anyone wants to try this and sue wts for discrimination I wish them luck.
