Do you think Grissom gives himself a low five?
by DannyBloem injust a theory.
he is using the internet for looking at some of those worldly pictures of ladies not obeying the dress standard of a sunday meeting in the kingdom hall.
after choking his bald guy 'til he pukes he comes to this board to preach and to lessen his feel of guilt.. well just a thought..

The whale is about 4 inches (that's 7 inches in bloke-speak) to the right of the dinosaur in the NWT
Midwich, you deserve a fish-slapping for that remark! The problem is, where does one set ones datum?

JWs are quite capable of keeping up that frenzied mental state of "Armageddon is definitely coming this year for such-and-such a reason" year after year after year. It's amazing but true, and every year there seems to be something anounced as especially prophetic concerning the end, but hey, we're all still here right?
There's a "best of" section on the board, where threads of particular interest live. Also, check out the "Links" section, all sorts of good stuff there, check that out. Also, you'll see mention of a book called Crisis of Conscience, written by a former Governing Body (tm) member Ray Franz, which gives all sorts of details about how the organisation ran itself.
*WARNING* if your sister finds out that you've been getting information from this website or that book, it could really freak her out, so if you approach her with any info you've learned from here, probably best not to say you've been on the internet looking on sites like this. Might be better to tell her you got it from discussions with your priest, or you found it out from the library or something.
As for reasons for leaving, there seem to be as many as there are people who've left. There are "why did you leave" threads around, but you might have to search back many pages. They are there however. For some it's the lack of love and compassion in the congregations, for others it's the doctrinal errors and intellectual dishonesty (607bc, 1914 and "this generation", 1975 etc, evolution book, trinity booklet), for others the paedophile cover-ups, for others the UN involvement.
Good luck, softly softly catchee monkey

Apostates - blood on their hands?
by slimboyfat indon't you think the witness leaders would have given up the blood doctrine and 1914 by now had not apostates made such big things of them?
haven't they been painted into a bit of a corner where, if they tried to adjust things on blood now, everyone would come down on them like a ton of bricks?
if apostates were not so vigilant in watching the witnesses' every move, perhaps the governing body would have tried to drop the dubious doctrines by the back door, like so many others that they have discarded when they did not feel to closely watched (organ transplants, for example).

no-one is pushing the organisation, slimboy, least of all opposers of whatever colour.
The leaders of the organisation were becoming more mellow, cooperating with worldly agencies for the first time. They did not want to upset their membership, so they did this slowly and under the radar.
Nope, they wanted something the UN had. Nothing to do with mellowness or cooperation. They were sucking the harlot's tits because she had some tasty milk, if you'll pardon my rather crude analogy.

edit: harlot? or was that babylon the great? I forget...

There is no "gospel according to apostacy", slimboy. You persist in slipping this idea into many of your posts, and it's annoying.

Great Experiences- I was serfing the net ad came across APOSTATES
by You People Are All Idiots inwow, yeah i was looking fr the theocratic ministry school oral review questions and i came across an apostate site!
the site was www.jehovahs-witness.com and was just fill of retarded apostates!
they were not only using a domain name and header name that denotes a conection with the actual watchtower society, but where using it to blasphem the jehovah's true organization in order to help people break away.

Life after Jehovahs Witnesses
by WILKO ini was brought up a jw untill i was seventeen, even got baptized.
when i was seventeen i got disfellowshipped.
tried for about three years of sitting in a hall of non stop ignorant people claming to be christian, is it christian to be ignorant or just rude?

Hello Wilko, great to hear such a positive story.
As for gossip, this place is a good one to gossip in. For instance, I hear that MidwichCuckoo is a drunk, and Crumpet steals sweets from children, but don't tell them I said that.

Once, when I was "between jobs" (after having gloriously flunked out of a teacher training course, but that's another story) I went along to a meeting which had been advertised in the local paper. The advert was very non-specific, just something about a good "business opportunity", so I thought what the hey and went along.
Turns out these people were selling a range of food supliments, vitamins, minerals, that sort of thing. The whole deal was that you wore some kind of badge on your clothes, and used it as a way of starting conversations with people, and you quizzed them about their health problems and ailments, and you tried to sell them the appropriate bottle of "Dr. Good" to cure their ailment.
Then we were shown a video of a recent conference of this company. Well, it was more like televangelism! People on a stage a whoopin' and a hollerin' about how many tens of thousands of dollars they had made that month, and the "faithful" in the audience were lapping it up, cheering and whistling. Lots of exhortations from the stage to "sell more, sell more, sell more". So at this point my anti-cult warning system was off the scale, and I snuck out the back.
For all I know, I had totally the wrong idea about the company, but I certainly got the impression that working for them you had to buy into a certain mindset. That's the closest I've come to seeing a company act in a cult-like manner.
Does anyone remember the Roseanne episode where the daughter's boyfriend goes to work for the "Hans the Hare" company, and it turns out to be like a cult, and Roseanne has to break him out deprogram him? Were they having a crack at Disney in that episode?
