Going to Kingdom Hall for first time
by InChristAlone insince my family is out of town, and i am alone this weekend, i have decided to attend this once to see these things for myself.
have no fear, i have absolutely no interest in joining.
my goal is simply to better understand how to reach those who are on the inside, and i feel i could better do that by observing it.

Interesting report on the experience. I'd say one of my abiding memories is also that of a complete lack of passion or any feelings of a transcendent experience. It was like being at a management meeting.

I do like a well-written book review, but as BB mentions this can only be done after having read it and of course it is subjective to some extent. Like most people I suspect, I have bought book which were demolished by critics because I was curious about the subject and found them interesting and books that people raved about that became fuel for the stove on a cold night.
Oubliette isn't reviewing the contents of course and doesn't claim to as far as I can see. Who can say what this guy's motive is for writing the book though I'd be interested to know how he came to leave after having been so prominent in the organisation. It could be simply ego or he could have an astounding reason like Ray Franz.
The observations by someone who knew him are, to me, interesting.
I am not convinced airline pilots are any necessarily more egotistical than folk in any other role where they have authority and are accustomed to people doing as they are told. I trained with an airline pilot many years ago and I would say he was rational, confident and somewhat understated in his manner. He was a former military pilot too. On the other hand, give some window-cleaners power and see what happens :)
I should think a lot of books are written by egotistical, unpleasant people. That doesn't make them unworthy of reading of course. Then again no book purporting to be factual or objective should be read with one's critical faculties disengaged.

I suspect you will find it bland and meaningless. Witness meetings are the religious equivalent of a ryvita biscuit. The people will either ignore you or be all over you like a cheap suit. Remember : bullshit baffles brains.

Like A First Rate MLM scam The Number One Consumer of Publications printed by the Printing Company *** YES YOU GUESSED IT***
by Narcissistic Supply inlike a first rate mlm scam the number one consumer of publications printed by the printing company *** yes you guessed it***the congregations themselves are the number one purchaser of the publications put out by the publishing company.
that is the lifeblood of any multi level marketing scheme is to make money off of the downline or upline or anybody that believes the scam.. jehovahs witness puchase the bibles and printed nonsense and that is the lifeblood of this billion dollar corporation.
if they stopped donating or buying this garbage the printing company would dry up in a matter of months.. the printing company recieves 9.6 billion of (not only tax free labor) but absolutely free labor each year based on a billion service hours.

Scary Stuff
by Farkel intoday's high school students in the usa:.
less than 1/2 of them cannot identify the century when our civil war happened.. one in four thought columbus discovered america sometime after 1750.. one in three cannot name one right enumerated in the bill of rights.. three out of four cannot name the first us president.. two out of three do not know the length of term of a member of the house of representatives.. half cannot find britain on a map.. one out of four cannot find america on a map.. when my oldest daughter, who is now a physician was in 9th grade in this once-great state of california, i asked her about the three branches of our federal government.
she was clueless and told me she would take civics in her junior year in high school.

Proof of Noah's Flood - Presently watching a Documentary about Europe & the Ice Age
by *lost* infirst time i ever heard anyone say there was 'proof' of noah's flood.. very interesting,.
showed a trawler, where the team dredges regularly in the north sea - for animal bones, massive land animal bones, mammoths.. he said, originally, the bones were sent for analysis, and the dr stated, they were proof of noah's flood.. the north sea area was a land mass of dry grazing lands.
and it was very similar to africa.. many bones were found in london, of lions, hippos, etc ... when they were digging out the underground.. .

Plenty of places once under the sea are now above it and vice versa. I don't see how this has any connection to Noah lol.
