Though I haven't read his book, it's my understanding that, far from being an exhaustive examination of the NWT, DeBuhn has rather focussed on comparing just a few scriptures across several translations. And it may well be that the NWT does a good job of translating those handful of occurrences (I don't know), which would have no reflection on inadequacies beyond the rather narrow scope of DeBuhn's work. I'll be interested to hear what you find, sd-7.

According to bookstudy, it's ok to beat wife.....occassionally
by JWinprotest ini apologize if this has been mentioned, but i don't have the time to come on here as often.
yesterday's bookstudy on divorce got my shorts in a bit of a knot.
apparently, according to the god's love book, a wife could consider legal separation from her husband if she is physically abused, but (get this) only in the case of extreme physical abuse, and if the wife's life is in danger.

How Much of an Impact is Being Made by Young JW' s Leaving the Cult ?
by flipper inwe have read threads where statistics show that 2 out of every 3 people raised as jehovah's witnesses eventually leave once they get in their 20's to 30's and out on their own.
my children and my nieces and nephews are between the ages of 21 to 35 .
out of those 8 people - 4 of them have completely stopped attending meetings .

I was baptised in 1996 and my younger son at 8 in 1997
What the snarf is going through ANY elder's head baptizing an 8 year old boy???? After all this time, it amazes me. No infant baptism. Yeah, right.
Anyway, it seems like my situation is just the opposite from all the other posts. My husband's sibs and kids and my sister's kids all super strong, no flinching or blinking. Still, there's super-strong socio-familial pressure and I wouldn't be surprised to see something crack in the next few years.
Who knows...I feel like I'm the only one in my whole family who can see this religion for what it is. Oh, wait--I AM the only one!

New Understanding of "This Generation"

But if they leave it like this wouldn't that make it last forever seeing as how they say newly annointed are replacing the ones that screwed up? Now THAT could go on forever.
Now you're getting the idea!!!!

Dissolved Congregation
by dudeson ini heard recently that 1 of the 4 congregations in our relatively small area has been "dissolved" and relocating many of them to the hall i used to attend.
it must be due to the low numbers these days.
our average sunday meeting attendance when i left was around 75.. does this seem to be a growing trend recently?.

According to the Annual Meeting there were two new peaks in the USA during the last service year, so why are congregations being merged?
The peaks might have been in foreign language or in some "aspect" of the ministry like bible studies counted. I think a lot of these cong dissolutions are in English, where things have been stagnating for a l o n g time.

Yes, there is a "new understanding," which was delivered at the Annual Meeting. The generations--okay, brace yourselves--overlap! As long as there are annointed whose lifespans overlap, they are all one generation.
Got to hand it to them, it's inventive, at least!

Proof Jehovah's Witnesses have been declining for nearly 20 years? (At least in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand)
by slimboyfat insee the tables on pages 124 and 125 of this book:.

admittedly these statistics don't measure the same thing official watchtower statistics do (i.e.

More evidence that the decision to stop printing publisher stats in the KM each month is because the news is depressing. Now, they can just cherry pick which item (that shows the greatest increase in whatever category--placements in March of 186-page books on paper that yellows, for instance) to reveal. Of course, this is typical, razor-sharp JW logic: If we don't publish it in our lits, then it isn't true!

Hey, Jeff, do it! I was 40 when I started university--didn't do the online thing, went bricks and mortar and was absolutely terrified walking into my first class (English 202) which was packed with 19 year olds. They all thought I was the instructor--doesn't matter, it was awesome and now, 4 years later, I'm in grad school, teaching a freshman class at the same time and getting paid for it--now when I walk into the class, I really am the instructor and absolutely love teaching...Follow your passion, and you'll find a way to make it pay.
Sounds hackneyed, but hey--its the total opposite of what the Society tells you to do so it's got to have merit!!!!

Graph from Dec 15 09 Wt on How to Apportion Your Time to Remain Joyful. Crazy....
by Hopscotch inhere is a scan from the dec 15 09 wt (study ed) with a graph of how a witness should apportion their time to remain joyful.. .
so according to this graph, to remain joyful a witness should spend 3 times as much of his waking hours in 'theocratic activities' as he should in secular work!
hopscotch.

Well, at least they're allowing JWs HALF their time for purposes other than JW activities...! While I'm blown away by the level of control, I'm also trying to figure out the purpose behind this. Sheep are doing less, obviously. It must be desperate if they're going so far as to tell people to quit their jobs if they can't keep up their 50% of the your breathing time in JW-related activities. This, when unemployment is around 10% and non-educated folks like JWs are having the hardest time...
Oh, I forgot--Jah will get them that $50/hour, 18-hour/week job. I wonder how many JWs use food banks already...I know of 2 in our hall.
