I had him as a sub CO many years ago and can confirm that he is, indeed, a gifted orator. Charisma up the ying yang--well, let me clarify--that is, when he's publicly speaking. In person, I have no idea. But on the platform, pontificating into a mike? He could draw tears from Navy Seal.

OMG, you guys make me laugh!! NoRoom--Dr. Zaius--that's hilarious!
My Book of Bible Stories looks like War and Peace compared to this brochure's simplified version.
Unshackled hit the nail on the head. And yes, the simplified version is just downright embarassing. If someone is unable to read English well enough to read the regular version of the new broch, which itself is about a Grade 2 reading level, then they need to be reading in their first tongue.
The problem is--well, one of them--that the WT is stuck on the "easier the better" because, as so many have noted already, anyone with even a moderately good education is starting to see right through the nonsense. The fact is, many important things connected to the Bible--whether you accept it as the Word of God or not--ARENT simple and can't be made simple, or at least, not like the WT is attempting to do. Therefore, what they've ended up with, in this silly brochure, is a complete fiction unhitched from anything remotely resembling truth or reality (however you want to define that).
And yes, the good wifey in her apron wtih the casserole on the table just in time for the hurly burly meat-eatin husband caught my attention too. Also, did you note how every single spirit creature is a white-haired, bearded, semi-ageless Caucasian male with albatross wings? They really need to give better thought to the currency of their images.
Also, Paradise looks like Rivendell. Someone in the art dept.'s been watching LOTR...

Welcome, burnedout. I'm the wife of an elder as well as the daughter of one, so I can totally relate to the "other side" of your story. My husband is wonderful and I love him dearly but he refuses to even consider any evidence of the duplicity and dishonesty of the WT. I see him barreling through some evenings in a flurry to get his parts ready or take care of congregational things, sometimes very stressed out. He keeps himself so buried in it that he can't see the forest for the trees, if you see what I mean.
As I've said before, it continues to surprise me how it is the men who wake up first, in so many (though not all) cases, but perhaps being on the inside as an elder has something to do with it...

Resigned
by Franklin Massey ini finally resigned as an elder.
my conscience wouldn't allow me to continue.
i've battled for years trying to reconcile the fallacies of the wt society with my own personal beliefs.

You are truly an "honest-hearted" person. It's ironic that we claim to be searching for honest-hearted people and yet those who really are intellectually honest end up seeing the discrepancies and unScriptural manipulation techniques and leave. Those with courage, that is.
Congratulations for being so brave.

Let me make sure I've got this right: The DC flyer shows Daniel's image with all of the kingdoms identified down to the AA world power, then there's an arrow pointing at the toes with a floating question mark. This set-up would prime a reader/viewer to expect some kind of useful or illuminatory information regarding the toes, paralleling the already disclosed info re the rest of the image.
The rhetorical context--that is, a talk at the annual district convention, where traditionally new and "exciting" information is announced, coupled with the thematic implications of the passing of the previous worldly kingdoms and the imminence of God's Kingdom--would lead one to believe that some announcement of significance with respect to where we are in the stream of time (to use a hackneyed JW expression) would be forthcoming.
All that--and the announcement is basically that there's nothing to announce??? The toes have no significance??? THAT'S what that flyer is all about????

Could anyone confirm exactly which talk in the CO week's visit this is and WHEN it was given? We had our CO visit last week, and I was there Tues and Sun (sigh) and didn't hear anything like this. I missed refused to go Thursday night, which is the Congregation "Bible" Study followed by the CO talk. So maybe it was then?? But I'd like confirmation, if possible.

This is one weird cover; given this organization's repeatedly botched predictions as to when the "end" would come, I would say they're taking a huge risk with this kind of cover. It's like a big reminder that so many lives have gone by w/o their predications happening. Also, it's clear that the WT art department has few, if any, trained professionals who stay current in the industry. As another poster observed, this is a pastiche spanning the 20th century, yet supposedly organized to show a single life. The little boy in the knee pants is from very early in the 20th century; early 1920's I'd guess and he looks to be around 10 years old. That would make him born in...OH WAIT...that would make him born in 1914!!!
The boy with the bike looks like 1930s, as has already been noted. He looks to be in his early to mid teens, born around 1920. The guy with the dishes is from the 1950's, the guy with the briefcase, maybe the 1970's. There's no way this could all be one person, yet that's ostensibly what it's portraying. Are the artists so out of touch with how people live that they really think someone who would wear a cap and knee pants as a boy is still alive, albeit hobbling around with a cane? The old guy might be in his eighties, at the most. And yet if it's not supposed to depict a single life, what's the point? Why display it in this manner? Because of this anachronistic depiction, the picture has a decidedly creepy feel...
Also, so many of the pics the WT uses show the "representative" white, middle class male, as if somehow that represents the "majority" of people, either gender-wise or economically.

Introducing Myself

Welcome, standfirm. You show courage; I like that.
If you feel like answering one question I have, whenever you get to it, that would be great, because this question is something that got me thinking (uncomfortably, I might add) when I was active: How can JWs legitimatey and honestly say we are in the "worst time of human history," and seeing fulfillment of certain parts of Matt 24, when a close examination of the facts reveals something very different? In fact, the explosion of human population, coupled with the fact that people in almost every corner of the world are living LONGER than in centuries past, points to the last 70 years as being a period of (relatively) unprecedented peace and prosperity.
I'm interested in your thoughts. (Well, anybody else's, too.)

Jewelry advice
by TD inas every married man knows (or should know) anniversaries where the number ends in either zero or five are more special and important than all the others.
your 20th is somehow more special than the 19th) anyhow, i've got one of those "magic number" anniversaries coming up and am thinking about jewelry.
any advice for getting the most bang for your buck?

Cadellin
On one of those "5" or "0" anniversaries past, my husband swiped my wedding ring w/o me knowing it and had four diamonds added (the number four was for aesthetic purposes, not for any special meaning). He took me out to dinner and presented me with a small box (yes, those little boxes!) inside of which was my beautiful, even-better ring.
The only downside was that I went through a degree of agitation for the preceding two weeks thinking I'd lost my wedding ring! So while the result was wonderful, that aspect might have to be navigated so your significant other doesn't have a melt-down!
