the watchtower has posted a news item on the coronavirus on their website and officially endorces the advice of who, the world health organization which is described by wikipedia as -.

the world health organization (who) is a specialised agency of the united nations that is concerned with world public health.

it was established on 7 april 1948, and is headquartered in geneva, switzerland.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread

this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

First of all I would like to thank Simon for a thoughtful uncongested topic as a go to for information on a topic which may touch all of us in the near future.

I,ve got a step son coming back to Australia from Hong Kong next month and do wonder what the future holds. if this shit gets more serious.

Secondly I just got back from my supemarket and wished I'd taken a picture of the dunny roll isle ,apart from a few large bundles left . the quarter acre isle was as naked as a babies bum. Funnily enough I actually was running short of rolls and had to pick up a packet that almost needed a forklift to pick up . Got enough to last to the next scourge on society!

A tight lipped young woman was lifting a huge bag of rice into trolley , and just about every trolley seemed to have a generous amount of long life milk - so there is still food for now. But bugger all hand sanitizer , just a few bottles of that one that foams up but only in that proprietry dispenser made by them ,how inconvenient guess I"ll just have to use the old fashioned soap and wash my hands regularly like many of us old timers do. Plenty of soap on the shelves! Wierd.

Went on home got on the computer and read this topic and I started to think a bit more about this plague and what iff it did actually turn out to be a horrifying thing for mankind and absolute panic ensued. I think we will be thinking more than about a shortage of toilet paper. Maybe all those Doomsday Preppers will have to sharpen up them gun skills a bit more and those that are like them, might be the majority of remaining humans left here.

What a wonderful world they will have - no law except their own , use yer gun whenever, no-ones gonna tell 'em what to do ,and for the JW's still alive, the GB may even allow gun use too! Roll on plague just like back in Egypt I ain't got much life left in me anywayz.....hold on god where are the earthquakes etc you promised again and again thru your hand picked buffoons in America!

Before cutting my hair my witness barber had to check with Bethel...really? Not a cult?

i was balding and grey so i asked my witness barber friend to "just shave it all off" many brothers were doing the comb over which looked friggin stupid.

but oh no in the 1990's this was rebellious he had to call a brother we knew at bethel to see if it was ok. we got his ok to go ahead but at the time i could help thinking about the no beard rule and how controlled and cultish we were..

Anyone ever get blow back for owning and riding a motorcycle?

my wife's family rode motorcycles all their life.

her grandfather was an elder.

i was told by some dubbers that it was not christian to use a motorcycle.

Had bike since I was 18 ,part of a bike gang when I was 19 when I met my first wife from a JW family.My first bike was a 2 stroke yamaha 305 cc and next was a K1 Honda 750 4cyl in 1971 and never really stopped, I'm still trying to catalog all the different bikes I had.

Raced Motocross on a yamaha MX250 in '73 and '74

Here the stigma was bad and looked down upon and when I became a JW motorcycling was kept low key otherwise I would not have been on the servant body ,but it was OK in the 80's for a local elder to have a huge Yankee car that reeked male penis problems!

Later me and a fellow brother would go Windsurfing with our families and go to the kingdom hall on Sundays with all the gear on our cars roof racks and then go windsurfing after the meeting = did not go down well!

Still riding got a Triumph thruxton, aKawasaki KLX650 dirt bike , a Husqvarna wrk260 race bike and a restored Triumph 1973 Daytona 500cc love them all

Australian Bethel propose building a media complex

there's a post on exjw reddit stating that the ibsa are planning on building a media operation at the sydney bethel.. the estimated cost is $10 million aud and this in spite of the fact that they still have not joined the redress scheme or attempted in any monetary way of assisting abused victims within the organization.. the link below includes detailed plans.

they will be converting part of the current printery into a media complex.. they also propose to build a theme park in the form of a historical biblical site, including a man made mound and what one person suggests is a temple.. its not surprising that a bunch of old men in new york has dreamed all of this up - film sets in new york, england and now australia.

I wonder if they will do what they did years ago ,they manually, with brick saws cut the faces off their pallets of bricks and stuck them to the walls. All that slave labour they used to do that joyless noisy job.

One of my former employees told me he was there for nearly two years doing that sort of crap for an unthankful and oblivious governing body ,what a bunch of monkeys!

Hey here's an idea ,they could cut different coloured bricks and make a mosaic of the governing body as monkeys humping each other in a line with the background music being a lovely clap-along kingdom song!

i am actually not a 'sky is falling' guy, but i wanted to comment on the australian bushfires.. you may or may not believe the science behind global warming, however i personally put more faith in verified, scientific data than the words of fat cat, self-serving politicians.

climate science has predicted, based on data, that we will see more prolonged, extreme weather events, higher average temperatures, rising sea levels due to ocean expansion and glacial melting.

and this is exactly whats happening.

I live about an hours drive from Adelaide South Australia on the coast and just on the good side of 70 years old .

The fires in Australia are unprecedented in my memory and I have lied in many of the areas affected by the massive bushfires and it is saddening to see the vision of the destruction on the media because I remember what it was before.

I choose to live where I live because of the low risk of fire being beachside suburbia. For decades now our population and wealth has grown as a nation and more people have chosen to live in bushfire prone areas ,so that's a risk. more people more chance of fire etc.

Some people believe global warming is a crock of shit and say so here despite apparent evidence .I won't argue with them because they are'nt experts and neither am I .Pointless.

But I will say that in my relatively short life I,ve seen some changes here including temperatures of 46.6 C ,about 118 F which we had to live thru on the coast not in the desert. This happens regularly now compared to decades ago where we would get hot days, but not that high, and with regularity like now.

I guess alot of us can point to the changes wherever we are in the world ,here in Australia the scientists point three major influences to our weather which includes the Indian ocean cooling at present ,the air over the antarctic and the massive burning of fossil fuels.

Like RUBADUB in Florida and his flooding which is unusual local activity alot of us must notice changes to our environment.

We are'nt getting higher seas here that I recall but that does'nt mean climate change is not changing things in some other part of the world causing floods . I am sure if I lived in Greenland I would certainly see and feel the effects of billions of tonnes of ice melting over decades.

Can we say that the fires are totally caused by global warming? Surely I would be an arrogant prick if I could just come out and say that without absolute proof!

I think we just need to be observant and informed and look at this from all angles we can because this is our and our childrens world ,in our lifetimes we.ve seen the results of polluting and mismanagement and why it happens.

In the meantime theres alot of people here who have to restart their lives and they are thankful to still be alive

Jesus to rule for 1000 yrs yet he started in 1914?

i believe when we were in the jw cult, our brains and thoughts were hijacked by the governing body.

i truly believe the gb thinks all members are stupid and they laugh at them in their wednesday morning secret meetings.. one such teaching that i never heard anyone bring out or question yet the absurdity and contradiction is blatantly obvious is: revelation chapter 20 says that christ will reign for 1000 years.

it doesn't say he will reign more than a thousand yrs but only 1000 yrs.

From memory the WTS created different kingdoms for the different people classes and times ,so the scriptures can be bent a little to suit their agenda.

Jesus had a kingdom after dying with the original christians and in 1914 comes along another crowning and kingdom of 20th century people who he oversees on earth who are refined by him to be heavenly hope people.

But wait, a new president is commissioned (Rutherford) who decides there amongst the people is a second class of people with an earthly hope who will see "millions now living will never die".

So in the Kingdom of 105 years since 1914 Jesus has organized an organization that repeatedly has falsely forecast Armageddon ,seen the millions that were'nt going to die ,actually DIE , and countless false prophecies and reversals of teachings yo-yoing up and down.

What's Jesus been doing? Sounds alot like a group of men totally bumbling along in 105 years ,and surely if Jesus is sitting at the right hand of god ,he is in reach of god to give him a swat on the head to wake him up - it's pathetic.
