  I too have been charged with apostasy! Stunned.

  my wife and i got a letter sent to me stating we are being called before a judical hearing to discuss allegations of apostasy!

  we haven't gone to the meeting in 5 years.

  are the jw's on a witchhunt lately?

  Yeah you won't be able to escape a label of "Apostate" when you write a DA letter. Leaving the organization formally constitutes apostasy, period. It's incredibly asinine, but there it is.

  I would hesitate to say it was the lights, only because I've seen PLENTY of JW's, elders and their wives included, who have white lights strung around their home or property year-round. If you're on any type of social media (such as Facebook or Twitter) and have posted about anything having to do with your life that is "unbecoming of a JW", then that would be my first guess. Many have been nabbed because they posted something on Facebook and an elder got wind of it. It's so easy to copy and paste or screen shot, so ANYONE who was snooping could have gotten information and passed it on. I've been a victim of it myself and refused to meet with the elders about it...Nothing ever came of it and I remain just a fader, no formal disassociation or DF'ing took place.

  If you've got nothing to lose, go for it. Personally, I'd rather not give in to their little political game.

  Finally watched Part 2 of the 'Faith in Action' DVD

  i only half-watched the first part.

  i was curious as to how they would cover the rutherford/knorr era.

  the sheer number of stuff left out as far as the history is pretty unreal.

  I don't know how you could stand it. The Faith in Action Part One DVD made me sick... I love how they showed the Bible Students holding up enlarged pictures of Russell's pyramid timeline lol... You'd have to know some REAL JW history to even notice it to begin with. I was watching it with my mother and backed it up and paused it just to be sure I had seen what I thought I had seen. Then I started explaining it to her and she denied that was what those pictures were lol.

  i used to camp alot as a kid.

  i was in cub scouts and boy scouts.

  dad and i went to lot's of camping trips.

  I love camping...but not "roughing it" camping.

  When I was a kid, our camping trips to New Hampshire consisted of going to a campground with full amenities...showers, toilets, pool, lodge with an arcade, badminton/tennis courts, basketball court, a playground...plus it was very close to the lake...just a short hike through the woods. We'd sleep out in tents, and in the morning, dad would fire up the Coleman cookstove and fry up eggs, bacon, and toast (on a cast iron ring...YUM!). This was a once-a-year thing for us for a few years and we loved it.

  Usually when I agree to go camping, I MUST have a shower available...I can't rough it THAT much. Even if I have to feed the shower quarters in order to use it lol.

  But for the most part, when I have things I need available, I love sleeping in the great outdoors.

  Cabins are nice, too. I've stayed in a cabin on a lake and it was nice.

  ETA: I'm actually excited to be able to go camping with the BF and the baby next year! Sometime in the spring, as summer is just way too damn hot to be sleeping out in a tent around here lol

  this may be a different way of exit from the jehovah's mentality, for me it should work, first i want to try all the things that were verbotent to them, slowly at first a piece of black pudding, then donating blood, you see the progression.. then a little more flagrant in the laws, buying a pack of tarot cards, reading them and so on.. does anyone think that's a reasonable way of beginning to destroy the subconcious methods of programming, also i am very ocd so any way of destroying the jehovahs witnesses mindset is fraught with potential new ways of worrying me!.

  I think desensitizing yourself to certain things is a good idea. For instance, I started researching "spiritism" (as JW's call it), specifically Pagan religions and beliefs. I watched verboten movies that had to do with ghosts and demons, etc... Now, some people might not be able to handle that, especially if their fear of demons is very real. I had to do it in order to prove to myself that reading and watching certain things was not going to bring on a demon attack. It never did. Of course, the first few times, it scared the crap out of me and I slept with the lights on LOL. But now my home has dragons and pentacles and the like with nary an issue.

  Something only has power if you give power to it. For example, I no longer fear "evil spirits"/demons or think they are real. My BF, on the other hand, does. So when he wakes up scared out of his mind, he has given that concept a power over him. Since I'm rational about these things now, I can understand the fear, but I can also talk him down from his freak-outs. So if you're afraid of, say, looking at Tarot cards... Face the fear and get yours read! I did...also had my runes read. It's all in good fun and will probably assist you in your recovery.

  I believe (though I may be wrong...maybe Blondie can pull up some info) that any job where you have to carry a weapon is a conscience matter. Same with a job that requires you to raise and lower a flag. So she could be a cop and still be a JW in good standing if, as Jeff said, it was a liberal area.

  Now, try that on the east coast and you'd definitely get some stares and some meetings in the back room about "stumbling" others...but they couldn't DF you over it.

  I feel terribly for Barb (Ronda's mom). She seems at peace with the outcome, though. She got what she was after in the first place and Ronda's death has been ruled a homicide. The problem comes in with WHO could have done it. There were only certain people in that house...one of which was 12 feet away and supposedly slept through a gun blast. My personal opinion: If Ron didn't do it, he knows who did.

  These people make me ill. What saddens me most is that this is multi-generational, starting with Fred Phelps Sr. and trickling down through his children to his grandchildren and whoever else has jumped on the bandwagon.

  It makes me sick to hear such young children speaking with such venom and hatred of something they clearly don't understand... Parrots.

  Actually, I'm a more moral person now than I ever was in things that matter. For instance, I don't steal, lie, or cheat, but it's no longer because I might get caught and DF'ed...it's because I genuinely feel those things are wrong. I don't judge others based on their sexual orientation or their religious beliefs.

  However, in other areas, a JW might consider me "immoral". Living "in sin", having sex before marriage, being pregnant out of wedlock, cursing like a sailor at times...

  But I'm a better PERSON, which I feel is more important than measuring up to a cult's yardstick.

  on monday i'm going to register to vote since i'm able to do so when i renew my drivers license.

  i'm actually kind of excited since i never did register because of they way i was brought up.. how many of you are registered to vote?.

  Yep... When I changed my license over, I registered... Haven't voted yet, though. Don't really think I will this year because, to be honest both candidates have points about them that I like, but a lot that I dislike. So I dunno.

  Like Found Sheep, I'm a woman, so no "privileges"...

  But I did watch porn while I was in lol. Still do. As was mentioned, as long as it's no one under 18, I don't have a problem with it.
