The comment I would love to make/hear:
Its nice to know that the Governing Body, as part of the Faithful slave have no special insights or shouldn't be seen as knowing any more than some of those of the Great Crowd.
*noise of pin dropping*

is anybody else courious about this discussion.
it seems as though they hide the fact that it is about the governing body up until the end when it says that they represent the fds.

let me first say that i believe in god, in jesus and the holy spirit.
therefore to hear the watchtower liken us who have been df, ( in our case asking questions about u.n. paedophiles 607 etc ) liken us to the first apostate the devil i find them judgmental in the extreme, not surprised but very offensive.. thanks to "flipper" with his thread i have decided to ban my brother in law from coming to my home, this year he intends to come over from spain where the need is great, ............the wine.and the beaches very nice too.. he is going to visit his mother who now because of dementia lives with us.. he will not be allowed on my premises at all, he will pick mum up at the front gate.. as a witness you must accept what the so called boffins tell you.. therefore if he can align himself with thinking that way, of his sister and myself then he is not welcome.. i will only accept him in my home when he gets out of her (babylon the great).
kt.
I think the difference is that for most witnesses shunning is not personal, in fact it is not something they WANT to do...it is something they HAVE to do. For a fully active believer, there is no compromising, no halfway. So, they feel to be acceptable to God they have to shun even if they hate having to do it. Sad and misguided, yes, but not personal.
For someone to shun out of spite, well that IS personal.
If there is ever an awakening on the part of your BIL, you want your door to be open, unless there are other issues other than religion then thats a whole other ball of wax. ofo

Hey, thanks for the thread lisa, interesting stuff. Thanks to everyone else for the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to having the ability to post more threads, but for now I will tack some more stuff onto the one I have.
I found this website
I found through a yahoo news article yesterday. Some very interesting statistics on religion. If you do a general search on Jehovah's Witnesses, you will get some neat stuff. Fastest growing religion...yes, but also highest exit rate as well. I had heard that said, but it was interesting to see it in writing. ofo

Thanks for the continuing welcomes. Just to clarify, I might have used wrong terminology????? I said I was a 'lifer'...I meant I was born into the JW's...is there another usage for lifer?...long term bethelite or something? Sorry if I gave any the wrong impression. ofo

I would start this on a new topic, but not an option yet, so i'll ask it here.
How monitored is this website? I have had multiple warnings to not post too much personal info here...is there anyone who have been burned by what they revealed here?
That begs the question, are there juicy rumors that are posted here just to see who drops the rumor at the next meeting and then *gotcha*?
Just that lifelong ingrained paranoia kicking in. After all, isn't the whole big evil spirit realm out to get me? And eventually the government too?
ofo
why?........is it therapy or revenge?....or wanting to save others from the real truth?..what else is there?...........i feel all three...and why do i so want to help others...does not evryone have a right to their own belief?.......oompa.
I think people come to this site for different reasons. Some want to find out if there are others that have doubts like they do, and when they read about those people then they see a little hope for themselves. Then they are looking for ammunition to fuel their own changing opinions and further to get ammo to alter the perceptions of family, friends, ect that are still in. Some looking for the latest scoop from within the org, hoping to see the signs of imminent collapse, finally completely justifying the decision they made to leave. Some, i'm sure stay around long after they are totally over it all to help answer the questions of others, and some for the social interaction with people they will automatically have at least one thing in common with. An finally and regretfully, those who like to mess with peoples heads, and internet forums are like playing a role playing game...but instead of a magic sword they just write stuff to be inflammatory. My observations thus far anyways. ofo

Hey everybody, thanks for the welcome. In answer to your question yknot, I am a history buff, so I was doing some recreational research on, of all things TE Lawrence. He was involved in the dig at Carchemish before WW1 started. Saw that battle of Carchemish was in 605, first year of Nebuchadnezzar and did them math. It was some pretty furious internet research after that...I was astounded that there wasn't a shred of evidence for 607. Lots of crazy theorists and apologists out there though. Spent a lot of time wading through it. For someone not history oriented the confusion would be nearly insurmountable. ofo
let's try this again...most of us are aware that all available evidence points to the time of jerusalem's destruction at the 586/7bc time frame.
overwhelming evidence includes astronomical phenomena, achaeological evidence, bank records, the bible itself.. some hold to 607bc, for obvious reasons- the implications it has.
thoughts on how this would effect the average witness if forced to conclude 607 is wrong?
Do you know what most people hated about studying the Daniel and Isaiah books? The History. They couldn't care less when Jerusalem was destroyed. As long as that is the case, then it is a non issue for the GB. There will never be a big news scandal ect. about this because nobody that isn't a JW disputes that is was 586/587. Ever looked at how many dates had to be altered in the insight books for them to stick with 607? It's crazy. Battle of Carchemish, the reign of Pharoah Necho, ascension of Nebuchadnezzar, I know there's more. Fact remains, nobody cares about any of that. The disclamier in the appendix of the Kingdom come book still stands. "until new information comes to light, we will trust in 'bible chronology'" as if that is somehow an explanation. ofo

Hello everyone. I've been lurking on the sidelines for a while and have decided to jump in and introduce myself. The name kinda gives it away. I'm a lifer who got a shocker about a year ago by stumbling across the 607 baloney. After I saw the 'wires' (you know the ones that make you think superman can really fly) then I started seeing them everywhere. Lurking here has sent me on more than a few interesting research jags. I'm so glad I have that extra night for study! I've been observing long enough to (I think) figure out who here is the real deal and who isn't. It's irritating to have to sift that, but I guess that's the price of anonymity. Very interested who, like me is seriously fed up with the JW's but is rather trapped in by a life build around it. How many more lurkers? Too bad for the paranoia we all feel if we are still in. Anyways howdy and thanks for many compelling threads(and a few incomprehensible ones!) ofo
That is hilarious!
