i've had a quick glance through the july 15th watchtower, and at first reading there seems nothing too dramatic to report.. the title of the first article "let jehovah guide you to true freedom" seemed ironic to say the least.
not surprisingly, the way you get more freedom is by relinquishing it entirely to the watch tower society.
there is also a bizarre statement in the very first paragraph of the article on page 7 (bold highlighted remarks are mine):.

The second statement there: "....many of these forsaken ones have found help and protection in the congregation...."
...it's like they acknowledge the damage done by rejection, but seem to think when *they* do it, it's okay....

I've mostly seen "worldly" families desperately trying to maintain contact/closeness with members who became JW's. While the JW is constantly having it drilled into their head at every meeting that family members are now "bad association".

I can only assume that this paragraph is referring to those whose parents etc have abandoned them on religious grounds because they have chosen to join Jehovah's Witnesses.
Many have endured this extreme rejection???
I would venture to guess there are many more JW's rejecting family on religious grounds, than worldly families rejecting their own who become JW's.
My sister, for several years in a row, couldn't afford the over-priced rooms on the list.
I convinced her it was okay to procure a room for herself at the regular rate. It was truly eye-opening to me to see how much the room prices were jacked up.
The idea of "Kick-backs" definately rolled around in my brain.......

I agree with your whole post, Jackie.
My issue is that theists (in general) claim that their beliefs make their behaviours and thoughts "better" or "higher" than those of athiests or agnostics. Otherwise, why else would they subscribe to them? In view of this claim, I've spent alot of time watching here in recent months and I honestly see very little evidence of the truth of that claim.
It seems like belief in God or Christ is basically a "free pass" - it makes whatever your PERSONAL behaviour and thinking is OKAY!! because "I believe in Jesus!" Which doesn't lend itself to any kind of self-examination of one's thoughts and behaviours. That's what bothers me the most. The whole, "Whatever I do or think is right because I have Jesus on my side!"

when we finally met up together this weekend, i turned on a burner on the stove.
This reminds me of a newlywed JW couple I knew....
She was making a dish for a congregation "get-together". Meat was in the oven and she had made a sauce in the blender, ready to be poured over the dish. She then went to have a shower before the "get-together"..........
When they were nearly ready to go, she poured the sauce over the dish and went into the cupboard to look for potholders. She finds.........a chewed up wooden spoon in with the kitchen linens....
Asks hubby about it, and he claims to know nothing
She says, "Look, it's only you and me here, and I know it wasn't me!"
Finally, he admits that while she was in the shower, he turned on the blender, and stuck the wooden spoon in, which got chewed up in the blades.
She was livid, and said, "You were going to let me serve wooden slivers to our friends???"
She came to the "get-together" with no dish and in tears.
