  What I did this morning instead of service

  ok, so my man coaches pee-wee football.

  so i go at 10 this morning to watch 13 eight to ten year olds fumble around on the field for 2 hours.

  but this was an "optional" practice and so the ones who showed up - really wanted to be there to learn.

  I know. People brought food to share - sandwiches, hot coffee, bottled water. Just like the Witnesses.

  Then at 1:00, it was Community Clean-up at all the football fields. Some of the kids from practice stayed for clean-up. I saw whole families show up, including one little 3 1/2 yr old boy, who said to his mom, "Mommy, Let's do more! I am so excited! Do you know why? Cus it's good for the environment!"

  It made me think I have missed something. While I was dragging my kids out in FS when it was 40 below and bribing them with a hot chocolate at 10:30 am......

  My neighbors were out cleaning up winter gargabe build-up, in nice little family groups, having fun and enjoying each other and the day.

  I am really thinking about things right now.... I know you all will know what I'm talking about.

  I hope this doesn't reveal too much:

  I was in a cong with 5 elders and 2 MS's and they had sisters behind the desk doing mags and a sister in a hat taking the second school.

  I'm still in shock over it.

  Swine Flu in California?

  i know there was a lot of fear around the swine flu if it was able to spread human to human..it seems that this article is confirming that it has.

  has anyone got a flu shot for it?

  the patient's mother had respiratory symptoms without fever in the first few days of april 2009, and a brother aged 8 years had a respiratory illness 2 weeks before illness onset in the patient and had a second illness with cough, fever, and rhinorrhea on april 11, 2009.. .

  I work at a Dr.'s office. We just got a fax this morn from the Minister of Health about this. Definate confirmed cases of swine flu in California. All clinics are to "carry out surveillance." For patients presenting with fever and cough, we are to keep them 1 meter distant from others in the waiting room or isolate in a private room.

  There are also clusters of outbreaks in south and central Mexico, Egypt, China and Vietnam. In case anyone is travelling.

  Saddest day of my life

  i followed my instincts that the changes my 14 year old son is going through ran deeper than teenaged angst and i made an appointment for him to see a counselor through the county so he could talk to someone.

  it took two months to get it.

  we went yesterday, he and i. i spoke for a little about our life now, including the separation, the house, the jws, the shunning, my husbands alcoholism and his treatment of the kids, my husbands familial bipolar and depression and adhd...and then she spoke to my son separately.

  What I love about "worldly" Bibles

  when i was still a witness, i used to peek into "worldly" bibles just to see if there were any differences.

  what i really loved about these so-called "worldly" bibles was that some of them changed the font color of jesus' words to red.

  i always wished the society would bring more emphasis to jesus' words, maybe just putting them in bold or something.. anyone else ever feel this way?.

  I've been reading the Bible called "The Message". It's in modern english and I like that it gives a llittle overview introduction of what each Bible book contains. I reccommend it.

  Any behavior you regret due to JW teaching

  does anyone wish they could make amends for mistakes made as a jw?

  i tried very hard to follow the teachings very closely, right down to shunning some of my relatives who were df'd.

  i also think i was very judgemental and hard on others..

  I regret being so hard on my son while he was growing up. I guess I regret the reasons why I expected so much from him - pleasing and impressing others. Well, that and I thought I was saving his life.

  Today he is 22 years old and not a JW. He's covered in tattoos (which I secretly love.....) and happy living with his girlfreind, who is a wonderful girl, whom I am trying to get to know better. He is a caring and sympathetic young man, who genuinely is good to others and I appreciate these good qualities in him.

  I'm trying to do things differently with my daughter. And not freak out over every little "rebellious" thing she does. She recently told me she she had just gotten a nipple ring. Oh, well. She told me her reasons for doing it - a "freindship pact" with her and two freinds, no one intends to keep it long..... I get it. I had the "rebellious" second ear piercing as a teenager and the "rebellious" toe ring as an adult.

  Finally moved out and HAPPY!!

  i have been away from the board awhile because i have been finding a new place for me and my two youngest kids to go, and found a wonderful 3/3 townhome in a nice neighborhood, close to their schools and our work...and we moved in last week.

  its like a pall has been lifted!

  its so wonderfully peaceful and comfy here and my kids have relaxed.

  Your situation sounds very similar to mine, except that you are both handling things like adults for the sake of the kids.
