newer visitors to this board may not be aware of the fact that the first 4 watchtower leaders were all sexual deviants.
i cannot for the life of me figure out how the creator could have personally selected these 4 men as leaders of his only true religion to be examples for all of the faithful.. i especially cannot figure out how the creator would figure these 4 sexual deviants should be used to give sexual marital advice and advice on raising children, since only 1 of the 4 had a kid and he pretty much abandoned that kid for a good part of the kids life.
also, he was the only one who had ever actually had sexual relations although they were mostly adulterous ones.. charles taze russell took "the vow" before his marriage to maria.
Bookmarking for when I haven't had 2 glasses of wine with dinner.
a jw associate emailed this to me.
exudes of typical jw smugness towards "worldly" folks.
has this been your experience in the borg?.
Reading that actually made me a little bit angry.
Who are they trying to fool? None of that is true.
i know while in the org we get told alot to tell everyone that we are jw's, cos its reputation is so good.
but that dosn't explain why people still refuse to answer the doors to them, or hide when they come aknocking.. so how are jw's really viewed by the outside world?.
I have to laugh at AE's comment.
The cleaning lady for our clinic is JW. She tries to Witness to everyone, they tell me they hide when they see her coming. Also her work is crappy, and she's about to be fired from the contract.
i do not like to be mistreated.
i didn't like it as a witness, but i put up with it for the sake of "jehovah's reputation.
" i haven't put up with it since leaving.
Hang in there, blue!!
Give it a a bit of time before you start voicing an opinion. I started a whole new career this year and I have only just started to feel I understand everything about the job. There may be stuff you don't understand. Also, I have found that some things are JUST NOT VERY EFFICIENT!!!! I am a highly organized and efficient person and inefficiency irritates me.
Every day when I go to work, I tell myself, "Be happy and helpful!!" "Happy and Helpful" is my mantra.
Good luck with the new job, hunny!!
i thought it best i stay a lurker.
it's just right now, i'm going through some doubts and just plain discouraged.
sometimes, trying to do everything just wears me out, and i feel like i'm suffocating.
I had 2 friends who married later. One was nearly 40 and the other nearly 30.
The older one had pioneered for years and one time told me that no one told her that when you made the decision to give your youth to Jehovah, there was a very real possibility that you would never be able to get married. When she had had enough of being single, she married the only available brother in her age group. And let me tell you - there was good reasons why he was still single at that age. She's had a rough marriage, to a cold and unfeeling man.
The younger one married a great guy. But she often would come over for dinner when she was single. She told me one time that she very rarely was invited out for dinner and she thought it was because everyone assumes a sister will cook for herself, while they think brothers won't.
Being friends with them, really opened my eyes to the struggle of ones in your position. I really feel for you. I hope you find happiness, whatever path you choose.
anyone seen this film?.
i saw it years ago and absolutely howled at it.. the way it takes the piss out of the religious leaders, the newly turned christians, and has a cheeky stab at the romans and pontius pilate is great.. seeing the funny side of what so many people take so seriously, for me is a breath of fresh air.. .
fwow him to the fwoooor.... .
It's definately a classic.
i posted about this on my own website, but i'd like to get thoughts here as well, since jw's are big proponents of the 'violence is the answer' side of this debate.. new research is suggesting that spanking children may result in lowered iq's.
(la times article) one hypothosis i've read elsewhere as to why this may be is because when faced with an unexpected result (the glass broke) the non-spanked child wonders why the glass broke and how much abuse a glass can take before breaking (essentually, the problem-solving/scientific parts of the mind find the unexpected result interesting, and want to learn more).
the spanked child immediately enters fear mode - he's in trouble, his parents will be dealing him pain soon.
Hi Lime,
My kids were 7 years apart so "fairness" was never really an issue - too much of an age gap for them to even notice they were treated differently in different situations. They are both really good kids, but very different personalities.
When my son was little, I used to see people at the K-Hall with out-of-control kids and think, "Why don't they just spank that kid?", cus mine was sitting there like a little angel. I was so stinkin' smart....
Then I had my daughter........she quickly brought me into the land of reality. I had to have 2 TOTALLY different parenting and disciplinary styles. It was a challenge.
i'm curious how many of you gals get excited about tools?
i just love having the right tool for the job.
i got an excellent socket set and tool box full of stuff for xmas a couple of years ago, but i keep discovering cool stuff that i want.
I love my power drill, built a deck with it this summer. I look for excuses to drill. I'm very good at screwing......

My kids got "swatted" on their bottoms a few times. But I never spanked them, and for different reasons. My son was a very sensitive child. A good talking to, and he got the point, felt bad and understood how to correct a problem. No point in spanking him - a spanking would have crushed him. My daughter, you could beat that child senseless and it would mean nothing to her - only would make her scream louder and longer. No point in spanking her, either.
That's my 2cents.
