Darth, I shared some of these thoughts with my son today and we had a really great conversation.
Thank you!

This is exactly how I feel - I consider myself a spiritual person, but not religious.
I hope you don't mind, I'm stealing this and sharing it with my kids.

note: the following is not meant to be construed as a recommendation but to demonstrate the sharp contrast between any authentic bible translation and the new world translation.
for those of us who participate and or read the threads on this board, i understand and appreciate that all here have different views on religion, the existence of god, and of the catholic church.
i believe each individuals convictions should be treated with the utmost respect and dignity.
Really enjoying the discussion here!
I'm going to check Amazon for the NABRE Bible later today.....
Carry on.....
there's no evidence that can't be overturned and exposed as deception in the scientific community.
jehovah's witnesses don't stonewall any new findings.
we have degree regarding adaptation.
Yes, everyone!
Present some evidence for evolution........so Alice can ignore it, call you all a bunch of losers and then start another thread about something else.
my disfellowshipped hubby dosnt come on here but has been amused by some of the funny threads !
he wants to know why smurfs and avatar are big no nos in dub land ?.
Some years ago, when the Teletubbies were popular, I bought the purple one for my little neice.
My sister-in-law said, while she didn't agree, people in her area were saying the Teletubbies were BAD because the purple one was supposedly gay.......
So I said, "Well, it's carrying a briefcase and has a purple triangle on its head. Maybe it's just a Jehovah's Witness."
We had a good laugh......
recently...my nephew confided that he doesn't want to go to the meetings anymore.
he told his parents.
reply from dad - typical party line - "live in our house - attend the meetings - or leave".
Liz,
I was put in this very same situation. My son told us he didn't want to go to meetings anymore. And my husband immediately - IMMEDIATELY THAT NIGHT - kicked him out. My heart broke, I have never cried like I did that night. I was forbidden to speak to him or help him out in any way.
I couldn't do it. I secretly gave him money, bought him stuff he needed, gave him a job when he needed it.
He is a wonderful son and I am very proud of him. We have a really good relationship.
I am glad I stood up for him. I am no longer with his dad, have left the religion and have no regrets.
Yes, it was very difficult for him and for me, for a few years. But we are better than ever because of it all.
All the best and a big hug to you and your nephew,
Palm
well this past weekend was pretty much as predicted, the demonstrations were probably the worst i have ever seen.
you know the ones i mentioned on a post last week where in the middle the participant has a sudden epiphany!
here is a sampling of just a few.. .
Being a "born-in", I never really knew many "worldly" families. The ones I did know, put our's to shame.
Now that I've been "out" for a few years.......I'm pleasantly surprised at how many really lovely and close families there are!!
All those years I was told that going to meetings, assemblies and field service was spending "quality time" with your family. It sure is NOT!!
Quality time is sitting up til 3 am with your teenage daughter, laughing and talking........and then being too tired for service the next morning, so you go out for brunch instead.
i have always been very hardcore about my aversion to blood and have never even considered the possibility that this was merely a dietary restriction.
i always bought into the analogy of a doctor telling a patient to abstain from alcohol... it wouldn't matter whether this individual drank the alcohol or took it intravenously... it would all be in direct contradiction to the doctor's orders to 'abstain' from alcohol.. or the other analogy is to an apple pie... if you weren't to eat the pie, it would not be okay to separate it out into the main parts (or 'components)... ie.
the flour, the apples, the sugar or the cinnamon... if they were taken from that pie, you were eating the pie.. so maybe you can see where the questions popped up for me.
Headisspinning:
I felt the same as you about the blood issue just a short time ago. Doing research on my own helped alot. I thought I was well-informed on the subject, thanks to the JW's!! Well, I found out that I had only been fed the information they wanted me to have.
Here's the thread I started about it. I found alot of the inofrmation given by others quite helpful. I checked out alot of what I was being told on that thread and it was all accurate.

comments you will not hear at the 03-13-11 wt study (january 15, 2011, pages 13-17)(marriage).
respect marriage as.
21 marriage, of course, is not the only gift.
As usual, "wifely submission" is touted as the solution to all marital problems.
As usual, no mention or practical hints on how the husband should treat his wife.
Grrrrrrr!!!!
I don't know if I can post this properly.

We can't forget that humans are not the only ones affected.
