And the newer generations are uneasy about the teachings and very insecure about THEIR futures, especially without a college degree...

Armageddon Fatigue
by phil the fish filleter inwhen i left the cult some years ago the response from the local jw's was venomous.
things have been changing lately, a number of elders have actually taken the time to engage me in conversation.
these tend to be those that were told they would never go to school let alone grow old.

Oh, and what "mum" said....
"....We love the holidays and take no part in the silly speculation as to whether they are "pagan." Almost everything is pagan. So we can enjoy life as happy pagans instead of miserable as faux Christians."

non believers what if your wrong ?
by unstopableravens ini do not wish to debate anything here like i have said in the past i have much respect for most on this forum (believers and non believers) i am simply wondering if the atheist or non god believers every worry about what if your wrong?
it seems that many who were jw for so many years attach jehovah/yahweh with the watchtower and since the wt is wrong than god does not exist.
i ask this question only because i care about people and salvation thats why i want to help as many as possable come out of this cult, and since i truly believe in god i dont know what is in the cinscience of those who dont.

"...And then I thought, would my reaction to this really be to get my father drunk and have sex with him? Really? Even taking away the fact that he was my father, this man had just offered me to a crowd to 'do with as they pleased!" I had just lost my mother.
No. This didn't happen, and a truly sick mind made it up. And it takes an enforced sickness on the mind to accept it...." New Chapter, above.
I am certain that the REAL story behind this - if "Lot" actually DID exist, by the way - is that Lot sexually molested his daughters and got THEM pregnant - and then blamed the WHOLE crime/sin on THEM - "they got me drunk; they seduced me, boo hoo hoo..."
Talk to ANY special-victims' advocate or social worker [leave out the fact that you're talking about "Lot"] regarding the details of this case, and see what sort of response they give.
While you're at it, look up historical middle-eastern customs regarding the treatment of women...

WT Elders school: Look how cute that kindly old elder is! Too bad the Talmud says we have to stone our victim anyway
by sir82 inmore haphazard thougths on the recently concluded elder school..... a big chunk of time was spent on a video which traced a judicial case, all the way from the confession to the elders through the decision to disfellowship the guy.. here is a very brief synopsis of the video:.
tearful late-teen or early-20's publisher confesses to 2 elders that he committed fornication with a "worldly girl" who is now preganant and wants to marry him.
the elders give him some "homework" to do prior to his judcial committee - read psalm 51 and an old wt article.

"...At the end, while the 3 elders are deliberating, Brother Old-and-Kindly starts off by saying the guy is just a "messed up kid who made a mistake" (or something similar) and that he ought to be given a chance to work out his problems. However, the other 2 elders spend the next several minutes "adjusting his thinking". They point to various references in the Shepherding book (i.e. the elders manual) which (what a surprise!) addresses exactly the situation they are in.
There are 3 or 4 efforts made by Brother Old-and-Kindly to soften the other brothers' stance, trying to get them to not DF the guy. But each time, his point is counteracted by a point read directly from the elders manual.
Finally, Brother Old-and-Kindly acquiesces and agrees the guy should be DF-ed.
The not-so-subtle message?
"You elders are too soft and sentimental. You have to view things as Jehovah does. If he killed a guy for picking up sticks on the Sabbath, you ought to be willing to DF a guy who lies in his judicial meeting and isn't 'concerned about his relationship with Jehovah'. Don't be fooled by tears - written direction in the elders manual trumps sentimentality."
Of course, just to re-emphasize, all of Brother Old-and-Kindly's arguments were counteracted, not with scripture, but with direct references to the Shepherding book.
Okay.... That is terrible, but I can see a 'silver' lining...
More disfellowshippings will get more people out - not just those disfellowshipped, but many of the relatives who see that they can no longer talk to or be with their loved ones will have their strength "tested" - especially if the disfellowshipment smacks of injustice.
Keep eroding the ranks, Gov.Bod, keep eroding the ranks...

Ah..... If what I've observed in nature that disproves the existence of johnny-come-lately Middle Eastern and Near Eastern nomadic late-bronze-age volcano-worshipping superstitious, ignorant tribesmens' "god" is "wrong"...
Then a lotta rocks, mountains, dinosaur bones, strata, and various and sundry OTHER geological formations gotta lotta 'splainin' to do...

Are They Cynically Shutting Down The Organization?
by metatron ini've raised this idea before but recent events seem to support it.
changes in the watchtower may be guided by more than a need for cash flow: they may simply be liquidating/shutting it down as discreetly as possible.. of course, this doesn't mean they stop working on their upstate ny country club - but it could mean that the throrough going exposure and disproof of their beliefs on the internet, when it emerged, took many of them by surprize, as it did many of us!
after awhile, they generally gave up trying to make any sense of their doctrines - and coupled with cash flow issues - moved towards a quiet retreat.. take a look at a few things:.

" Going by the assumption this is correct, then I would assume this came about primarily after Ray Franz left? And perhaps since the change of the relationship of the Governing Body to the Society in 2000, perhaps most new members since that time might not even know?..." Londo111, page #5
Consider the way 'Da Judge' Rutherford broke numerous laws while he was at Bethel - and especially the way he flaunted his disrespect for the law when he became powerful and eventually became the head of Bethel.
Hell, they were illegally transporting booze into Bethel in the 1920s for the old sot. That would have been good practice for further legal transgressions later on...
That may have been the point in time, in fact, when 'outside' interests began to gain 'investment' power in the Watchtower Society...

"...Could they be involved with money laundering? or abetting tax evasion? The huge volume of small donations in cash would offer such an opportunity. The Vatican certainly does it. ..." Metatron, page #4
Oh, I would bet my bottom dollar that they're abetting tax evasion - though as a "religion", they probably aren't subject to very many tax laws...

Do-Overs...What if you could have just one....What would it be? Why?
by Terry inas we grow older and have more life experience we have an advantage in looking at our life as a whole.. we can see things from more than one perspective.
we can be wiser as our emotions cool.
hindsight gives us the power to judge outcomes.. for example, i was thinking about a 20 year chunk of my life.

I'd like to be successful in EVERY ONE of my animal rescues...
