I was not able to grieve properly as a kid when my mother died. So every time I'm back in LA, I go to see her grave site. It gives me some "closure" that I feel was lacking as a child.

Rush's 2112

my fiancee and i were discussing what rush's 2112 is.

for those of you that don't know, 2112 is a piece, about 20 minutes long, divided into 7 movements.

we can't quite agree on what to call it... "song" doesn't live up to the full effect, as it has more in common with an oratorio than a pop song.

I have to brag about my kid

alex, our youngest graduated cum laude from the university of washington today with a bachelor's in environmental science and a minor in quantitative analysis.

he has a job in his field.

he and his fiance, who also graduated today (biology) are getting married july 1. she's starting a phd program at berkeley in august, so they're moving.

Minumim wage may go to $10 per hour...

i understand the reasons for the desire to raise the minimum wage, but as a small business owner, i'll have to raise prices to keep my margins profitable.

I think the answer is pretty simple in the Walmart issue.. Just stop shopping there - the problem will correct itself.

But no, we are a cheap and greedy society that want to lowest price no matter.

Funny thing, we got this well written letter of resignation just a few days ago. this employee will be sorely missed. This note was shoved under the door with the key to our shop....

I remember at one time the NWT version of the bible contained two separate lines of text (one in each column) at the top of the page that went something like this:

| all things are lawful but | a woman with a shaved head |

I know Ive seen it, but haven't been able to find the translation that has the correct pagination.

i started a mental list and it boggles the mind.

I saw it mentioned on another thread, that Disneyland would be off limits. I remember being a kid when Star Wars came out, we could not go see it because the force was magic and we all know where magic comes from...
