Atheists Against Abortion?
by AK - Jeff inhttp://objectivewriting.blogspot.com/2007/09/atheist-stand-against-abortion.html.
thoughts that somewhat parallel mine on this subject.
rational thought and rejection of creationism might not automatically place one in a particular stance on every issue, and may result in somewhat odd positions, compared to the stereotypical ones.

Nathan, when I was 16 at school, there was a girl in my class, timid but popular, who by that age already had 6 abortions . So I know what you mean about being shocked etc. For her, she was proud of it...like a badge of honour .
Abortion is a very hot topic and one that is still fairly taboo. I have friends who've had abortions and I wouldn't treat them any differently. While I would never get one, I understand that it's a personal choice and I'm not in a position to judge or pass comment. All I can do is support the person. Having said that, young ones should be educated about birth control.
For matters of rape, that's where it gets tricky. If I was the rape victim, I don't think I could go through with the abortion but I understand if the next person could. I personally know a witness girl who was raped on the way home from work when she was 16...and fell pregnant. She had the baby. While she adores her child and wouldn't have it any other way now, she still feels sad that she has no idea who the father was, and has to explain to her child when older how she was conceived .

Fantastic news!! Good on you! It's never too early or too late to educate .
I was 4yrs out of highschool when I decided stuff this, I'm going to get a degree! I had previously turned down striving for accolades to get into University, so graduated from highschool with high marks - but didn't apply to University, to the dismay of my teachers. I was a good JW girl after all, and as we all know, field service was THE most important career!
Alas after 4yrs of feeling I was wasting my intelligence working in a shop (not that there's anything wrong with that, just for me it was), I went to University, did my 4yrs and graduated I later was accepted into Law school, and then a Masters in another degree, but turned them both down due to circumstances. I do however see myself taking them up at a later date .
Congratulations everyone!!!

Remain Close to the Governing Body DC
by gutted ini just finished all 3 days of the dc and, for what it's worth, wanted to get down some of the highlights i enjoyed.
i went with family and i only did it for them, and hope to never attend another assembly ever again.. .
the whole thing was pretty boring and uncomfortable due to the stadium style seating which doesn't favour my long legs and ac being blasted too high.. .

Gutted ((hugs))....you did well despite difficult circumstances .
I am not attending this years convention and didn't last year due to work commitments. But this year I don't have the work excuse to fall back on. My family hasn't even asked if I'm attending. I'm not sure they will, probably don't want to rock the boat. But I know I'll not sit through another convention or assembly. In fact, the only assembly I went to last year was for someone's baptism. Haven't been since.
Now that my father cannot get the videotapes of the convention (new policy), he'll not hear about the new generation stuff - which is a shame, because I'd like to hear his input. Have congregations even studied the article about the generation change yet??

What is the point of praying?
by hoggieman inhi, i dont post here too often, but i was reading the other post about why bad things happen, and i am curious for everyones thoughts on this: i have recently left about 9 months ago.
at first i thought i was closer to god and was reading the bible more than ever.... praying asking for help, clarity, etc.....but after a while i started to ask myself why would god answer my messily little prayers when hundreds of thousands were dieing in haiti?
the witness mindset that i remember was not to pray for things to happen, but for strength for yourself to do something.

This is something I've thought alot about too. I feel for some that prayer is an avenue of peace for them. Most humans like to think there is 'more' out there and perhaps even that life goes on. Praying to something higher gives them peace and like someone else here said, fortifies them.
I have always struggled with like babygirl says: Jehovah hears ALL prayers - at another, he doesn't HEAR the prayers of the those who sin - at yet another meeting, there are stories of ho's/drug dealers/murderers who out of nowhere PRAYED and God answered them????
But we are told he reads hearts, but then he doesn't hear the prayers of unbelievers. Confusing to say the least!
For me, I've not properly personally prayed in probably over a year. I don't pray with my children either. I feel very confused about it all. I know praying used to give me alot of satisfaction and used to make me feel in control and almost powerful, that I could overcome anything because I had Jehovah onside. But now I'm not so sure.
My dad is a big believer in praying for something, or at least mentioning in prayer, and then when it happens, he's so jubilent. But what about everyone else out there who has good things happen to them and they don't pray or worship a God? Just doesn't make sense .

Ecouragement from a JW friend

it has made me feel sick to the pit of my stomach.
why is it bothering me so much?.

Hi and welcome! Thanks for insight into UK bethel...I never knew anything untoward was going on. I think people who've left bethel should start some topics giving us more insight .
I love Jamiebowers reply! It will leave your friend with a bitter taste in her mouth...lol. On one hand she'll hate you for being so upbeat about it and on the other, she'll have nothing to go to the elders about...hehe.

My daughter asked me this today.
by thenoblelodge inshe asked me why god didn't step in to stop tragedies.
for example, recently twin baby girls were attacked in their cots while their parents were down stairs.
both suffered life changing injuries.. my daughter knows a couple who have waited years for a baby and eventually had i.v.f.

Thenoblelodge....was that the twins attacked by the fox? What I didn't understand about that whole thing (as terrible as it was), was why the parents left the back door open. I realise they said it was a warm night, but still...bit risky given they knew that foxes were in high numbers. Still very sad, but at least the girls are ok
Unfortunately bad things happen. None of us knows if we'll be alive tomorrow or the next day. We could get hit by a bus or car today, or have a heart attack tomorrow. We just don't know.
As for a God *sigh* I just don't know anymore . I'd like to think so but truth is, we just don't know and that's what blind faith is all about.

Wild speculation/predictions
by serenitynow! inall the talk about the generation changes and the fact that my mother said she doesn't care cause she didn't believe the last few changes anyway got me to thinking.
my mom told me strange things growing up, and being a child and believing in her and the org, i just took as fact some things that now seem unlikely to be true.. 1. she said that the end would definitely come before the year 2000. of course i asked her about that after hearing the song 1999. based on her answer i was like "boy, i better get my act together.
" i'm pretty sure she was wrong about that one.

My faith when I was in must not have been too strong.
I feel the same Serenity. I thought I knew all I needed to know but after coming here, I realise how much I did NOT know. I was just following a religion I'd been raised in, without a thought to what I was learning or taking in. I know so very little and it actually frightens me. I can't offer much in way of sharing thoughts on some topics here, because I just don't know the scriptures well enough. Yet for almost 30yrs, I belonged to and would've died for this religion . It makes me feel physically sick.
