I've got to say, the bit about no-one killed in Australia by the tsunami....well, that's because it wasn't in Australia! Is this article for real? How could they make a mistake like that??

Does Hidden Condoms = Judicial Committee?
by wouldacouldashoulda intoo cut a long story short i left the truth and my wife left me after asking her for a divorce.. .
a few days later i found a packet of condoms (one was missing) hidden in her possessions.
if i presented this to her local body of elders would they consider judicial action?.

They may, but, how long ago did this happen? They may not get involved if too much time has passed. Seeing as you asked, in my opinion, hidden condoms with one missing...well, it's a bit sheepish.

My sisters partner died last night
by wobble inmy sister has pioneered since shortly after she left school in the mid-sixties.
she has had the same pioneer partner ,and shared a house with her,for over thirty years.. last night her long time friend died.
she had not enjoyed the best of health in recent years, but at 59, this is a devastating shock to my sister.. the problem is i don't really know what to say to her, she knows i don't believe the wt's view on life after death, so i suppose i shall just have to provide a listening ear.

Im so sorry to hear this :( Just 'be there' for your sister as much as possible. You could even send her a bunch of flowers and a little card to say you're sorry she lost her dear friend. You don't have to go into religion, or beliefs at all. Just be a comfort for her. Im sure she'll appreciate it :)

Lol, you know what I mean....the elders may ask why she did it, and tell her it was a bad witness.

JW Census
by GapingMouth inthe wts claims membership of somewhere in the region of 6 million if i am not mistaken.
is this true, or have they embellished the facts?
including those hiding or fading, technically how many jws are there really?

I think the numbers are only baptised publishers? BUT, they don't count inactive baptised publishers. Hmmm. Good question! I think the statistics would be active publishers.

The 2 witness rule would stand I think but if you're still 'in', then you could always ask one of the elders. If nothing else, then at least they know potentially what she's been up to. She could always say they were yours and hers from when you were married, and it was left behind by accident when you divorced.

Even as an upbaptised publisher, she will be talked to about this photo, guaranteed. Though the elders cant 'do' anything to her (other than take away her unbaptised status), she will be spoken to I'm sure.

So I did it - almost!
by wantstoleave intoday, i'm not quite sure how it started, but i voiced my concerns about the religion i've been brought up in since i was 3. my dad went straight on the offensive, though kept nice and polite.
i told them that someone can not be df for accepting a transfusion.
not sure why i started with that example, but nevertheless... dad said 'since when' and started pumping me for information, when, where, what...you get the picture and biggest one of all 'how do you know this'.

Well, today I could tell dad was itching to 'talk to me' but restrained himself. He DID however out of the blue ask 'do you have a YPA book I can study with the kids?'. My mum intercepted and told him they were far to young for that book (preschoolers remember) and it wasn't a good way to start, that the bible story book would be better. All I replied was 'don't know and it's too old for them' and left it at that. I know for sure he will ask me again, or he'll study with them incidentally while I'm at work.
As for the kids father, he left us over a year ago. As far as I know, he goes to meetings (but it's all for show, he is by no means a good Jw at all!) in another country. He has chosen to have no contact with us whatsoever. Some christian!

Are you scared to watch the news?
by wantstoleave ini'm a newbie as far as delving into information other than wt based, and have only just started posting on this board...so maybe the following thought will be old hat to some of you, not a concern or perhaps something you occasionally think about.
but, are you scared to watch the news?
purely for the fact of seeing things go on in the world that would prompt you to think about your jw upbringing?

Cawshun, I heard about that too, from my dad. What does everyone else think about it?
Thanks Jimmy and Baba for the info on that book....

Sacramento...I can't speak for other Jw's, perhaps some have also walked by a homeless person and given food, I don't know. I'd like to think it's something that humankind does, that their heart moves them to. You don't have to be sorry, I was just pointing out that not all witnesses behave in the 'typical fashion' and you're right, we all tend to generalise at times. You did not offend me my friend :)
Mouthy, don't worry, I haven't told the elders. I'm sure they'd have something to say about it, but after all, I'm just helping out people in need. They would have an argument on their hands if they tried to sway me. It's no different than being a recipient of church hampers. Eg, our community knows who is financially in need, and each year puts a list together and gives them a big hamper at xmas. Guess who has been on that list before? Yes, my family. And we gratefully accepted because we were hard up and the cupboards were bare. So to me, accepting the donation of food, or helping to put it all together is the same thing. I can hardly accept the food if I don't agree with how it's organised. I'll keep on walking Mouthy :) I'll make you proud.
